What to Do with a 4-5Month Old?

Gaylord Texas (you and your hubby can walk around and enjoy the sites. They have Summerfest going on right now, but their Christmas display is also very cool). They have a winding river inside, mini-vineyard outside, miniature trains, etc.

I would strongly suggest finding a support group like MOMS Club, MOPS, etc. We've featured a few in recent issues, but I'm sure they have chapters in Denton. They organize lots of local activities together (trips to the zoo, different playgrounds, playgroups, walking groups, babysitting coops, couples night, ladies night, etc.) There really is something for everyone, and most of the MOMS Club chapters in our area are $30 per year dues. They literally opened a whole new world to me when my first child was about 6 months old. Moms of some of the toddlers and preschoolers offer great advice for local activities and resources to the moms of babies.

I'd recommend checking out www.meetup.com for a moms' group in your area. There are several around town that are geared to babies born in the same year. I joined one when my son was 7 weeks old, and now he is 2 years, and we have both made some great friends.

Also, you could look into storytimes at your local library. They have ones for babies. Gymboree in Lewisville also has classes for babies.

C., depending on where in Denton you live, we'd love you to join us at a MOMS Club event! We have lots of fun together. Our monthly meetings are the last Tuesday of each month, with lots of other activities throughout the month. We have regular playgroups with children of same ages that meet weekly or twice monthly, all our events are kid-friendly so even when we have our book club discussions the children play at whoever's house we're at. I'm with you on the heat issue! I don't want to do anything but stay in the cool!

I teach Kindermusik (a wonderful music and movement program for children age newborn - 7) and I have a summer class that started last week, and runs for 4 more weeks. It's called "Peek-A-Boo, I Love You" and we are having so much fun. I have 2 other babies in the class that are the same age as your son, so it would be a great place for you to bond with some other moms.

No brilliant ideas on avoiding the heat-I would hang out at Barnes & Nobles, Grapevine mills, Target to avoid heat & be out of hte house. Your son is a great age for you to go check out museums, gallerys, any type of place that you won't want to take him once he is walking & can get into trouble! We also used to hang out at Petco & pet land to see the animals-much closer than the zoo!
I'm also in a wonderful MOPS group at Crossroads Bible Church on 407 just west of the Target/Shops of Highland Village. We meet on every other Wednesday from 9-11:30 (starting in Sept) and have fabulous childcare! One of the things that I found is really important is to get out of the house daily - it may be more for YOU than the baby! I have three boys and found my sanity depends on it.

Because of this I am one of the founders of www.BurbMom.net which is a local website for moms that has all sorts of resources and silly DFW mom stories - 35 local moms (and one dad) write for Burb Mom - it is a place where we just have a lot of fun and try to find good stuff to share.

Also, I recently came across Playin' Around Town which provides free events for families during the day to help moms/dads find entertainment they can do with their kids. The next free event is at WinKids on Thursday which is a really great facility. You can sign up for Playin' Around Town on their website: www.playinaroundtown.com

The other amazing resource we have in this area is FamilyeGuide. It is a website that sends out a weekly e-newsletter of ALL the stuff around here happening for kids: www.FamilyeGuide.com - their calendar is GREAT.

Hi, I live in Denton. We moved here when my kids were quite young, and at the time, I didn't even have a car, so I was definitely stuck in the house all of the time. I didn't mind so much...

I am a little confused b/c your post says 4 1/2 month old... and your bio says 4 1/2 YEAR old... the age makes a difference!

The Eureka Park has a great walking trail. If you walk past the tennis courts on the opposite side of the play area, that is the entrance. If your son is older, there are tons of programs through Denton Parks and Rec that you can take advantage of.

I also like to hang out on the square. You can get ice cream at Beth Marie's, a slice of pizza at J J's and sit on the lawn under a tree.

The Little Gym has programs, but I don't know what age they start. If you venture out, you can go to the museums, aquarium, etc. in DFW. But, I gather that isn't exactly what you had in mind. Sorry I can't be of more help!
