What's the Best Cart Cover?

Hi moms,

Which do you think is the best grocery cart cover for babies? I know there's the Floppy seat cover...then the Boppy seat cover...and lots of covers in between...some double as restaurant high chair covers and others have their own carrying cases, but really...which is the best?!

I'd purchased (but then returned) an Eddie Bauer cover from Target because it was kind of flimsy (as opposed to being "plush" and "comfy") and only covered the front and the back of the cart, but the sides were still exposed.

Also (and I'm just asking!), once my infant begins riding in the front of grocery carts, my "big boy" (three-years-old) will likely want to ride in the back of the cart. Is there anything I can (or need to) do in order for the cart to be sanitary for him as well?

Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your suggestions and feedback. Yesterday I bought a Floppy seat cover from Babies R Us. I got the black/white giraffe print. Can't wait to use it!

My daughter is 16 months and we have been using the floppy seat since she was 9 months old.

It works for us. It is not flimsy and covers the entire high chair or cart.

The best thing about it is that it has little loops that you can hook toys too. Also, it has pockets for sippy cups or whatever else.

Personally, I can't believe how much people have bought into the hype of these things. My parents and their parents never used such contraptions and "Not dead yet!" It amazes now that with more "inventions" our children are sicker than ever before. I must CONFESS, I fell for the seat cover and realized the germs I was trying to prevent were being carried back in the carry bag and back into the car and onto the next item I tried to "cover" unless you carry a washer and wash it and your vehicle and the carrying case after every use!!! People, remember..."God kiss it devil miss it, God made dirt, dirt don't hurt?" LOL Have a Wonderful Day and please do what works best for you but I thought I'd sound off on this today. :)

I LOVE my floppy seat cover. Covers everything on the shopping cart and you can mold it to fit in a highchair! I have gone without it several times too just make sure to wipe everything they could touch or put in their mouth with lysol wipes. My daughter has hardly gotten sick and when she has, it has been no big deal. My husband and I are pretty germaphobic so we have a healthy family. I have a 5 month old and plan to get the boy floppy seat now. Or just use the pink one with him, hehe. No big deal!

My in-laws bought my son a cart cover from Wal-Mart for probably around $25. I think ( not sure ) it's an Evenflo brand. It covers the front, back, and both sides, with velcro to make sure it stays. It doesn't have a lot of cushion, though. It does double as a high chair cover.

That's the only one I've ever seen out of its box. :)
I don't know if you're really supposed to have a child in the front of the cart. My mom had five kids, so we rode all over the buggy (including underneath the cart itself hehe Lots of fun!
But if a store clerk doesn't say anything to you....it's probably ok :)

Hope you find a cart cover you like!

Sorry- never used any of these silly things. I always felt, if you used it once, it was dirty and would need to be washed again and again. Plus I have enough to keep up with! I carried Lysol wipes when my babe was small. (still do!) I wiped down the cart and handle very well and she always put her mouth on it. I made sure she always had a toy or stuffed animal to keep her mouth busy.
You can't shield your kid from all germs. Building up immunities is part of life. (I'm a nurse.)
I just like to get the "top layer" of grunge, stickiness, and bird poo off before I put my kid in a basket.

Lets face it. The world is not a sanitary place. But hey, we're all still here.

I loved the Floppy for my last 2 children. It just made me feel better to know that they were in a seat that was a bit more cushy. It was really great when they were just starting to sit up and I could easily put my purse or a stuffed animal next to them to help coax them into position. It is also great at times when they fall asleep. The Wendy Bellisimo is very nice as well. As a matter of fact, I think it is made by Floppy. The KozyPalsKart cover is super nice as well. With the last one, you are able to pick out your own fabric. They are usually at the Baby Faire each year so they will be there this coming weekend with many samples, clearance items and regular priced items for sale. All 3 of these will double as a restaurant high chair cover.

The back of the cart is another subject. I have not found anything to help, shy of covering the entire cart in a sheet, that will keep that area "safe". I just wing it when it is needed.

Many have said that we shouldn't put our children in a bubble. This is a very true statement and is why so many of our medications are not as effective as they used to be. When we moved to Texas, my 2nd was about 18 months old and I did not unpack the Floppy Seat right away. It took me about 2 months to piece things together that I was constantly taking him to the doctor with sinus and ear infections. I started using the Floppy again and he didn't get sick any longer. To me, it's worth it on many levels to have this seat cover and now that it has gone through 2 children with only fabric fading and the tag coming off, it was money well spent!

I would pay attention to what you have said already. Make sure you get sides too not just front and back. Ours doubles as a restraunt high chair cover, which we LOVE. The child in the back will be able to fight off the germs better than a little baby. I think he will be safer. Most grocery stores have wipes near the carts to wipe them down.

I ordered one off the internet...KozyPalKart covers. It is super cushy and also doubles as a high chair cover. You can pick the material you like or send them material that you want it to be made out of. I would check it out.

I have a Kozypal cart cover like another responder. I loved it! Works great in a restaurant high chair as well. Rolls up and has elastic bands that secure it. Washes great, too. It costs a bit more than some, but I wanted something that I thought was cute.

It may be considered silly by some moms to use such a device, and I agree that my mother never had these conveniences and I turned out just fine. But it just takes one miserable exposure to a painful virus (in our case, hand foot and mouth disease) when your sweet baby won't eat, nurse or swallow, and is in such discomfort, and you will wish you could do something. I happily shelled out the money for a cart cover and never looked back.

The best one I found that I absolutely love is the Wendy Belissimo camo shopping cart cover from babies R Us. It was a bit procey, but it is so soft and plush, comfy, big enough to fit around the big shopping carts while still giving him room to move around, and yet maleable enough to fit in a high chair at the restaurant. Good luck.
