What Can I Do to Help "Morning Sickness"?

Why do they call it "morning sickness"? Mine lasts all day and all night. Nothing seems to work to get rid of it. I've tried saltine crackers, 7up, drinking lots and lots of water. Nothing seems to work. I have heard of "Preggie Pops" and "Preggie Pop Drops" that Motherhood Maternity sales, but I've been so sick, I haven't been able to get out of the house in nearly a week, so I ordered some online, and just waiting for them to get to me. I remember having "morning sickness" with my now 3 1/2 yo, but I don't remember it being this bad. It comes in vicious waves. I could be feeling great one minute, then the next, I am so dizzy and nauseous that it is all I can do not to throw up. Luckily I haven't actually gotten sick to my stomach yet. I only got sick 4 times with my daughter so I'm hoping this record will be less this time.

I just want to be able to get off of the couch and play with my daughter again. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thank you.

So What Happened?

First of all, thank you everyone who has responded. After reading the responses, there was one that I remembered that I had to do when I was pregnant with my daughter. That was to take my prenatals at night. I have also received my Preggie Pop Drops in the mail today, and they are working wonderfully. That is, as long as I keep one in my mouth. I'm going to try peppermint starlight candies or peppermint lifesavers as well. Again, Thank you everyone. If anyone has anything else to share, I am willing to read your suggestions. Thank you, L.

Hi L., They call it morning sickness because that's when it usually hits, but I know with one of my brothers my mom was sick the whole 9 months. Instead of the saltines and 7-up try salted pretzles and gingerale, that's what worked backed in the day for me, saltines made my feet swell but the pretzles didn't. J.

Hi
I would drink a glass of Orange Juice before I even got out of bed (helps with low blood sugar, one possible cause).

Carry some crackers or ginger cookies around with you.

I have heard Peppermint tea can help too.

I used the "seabands" they are accupressure wrist bands used for sea sickness. They helped me a lot

Take your prenatal vitamins at night, instead of in the morning

Good luck

I found, and still do I'm now 22 1/2 weeks, that lots of fruits/veggies with high water content help. it helps with the hydration without feeling water logged. a cool comfortable environment is really essential to me too. i was surprised of how much it made a difference. but the minute i must not have been hydrated enough (but not enough to be actually dehydrated--is there a difference? lol)i would notice because of how nauseated I felt. also, having something in my stomach at all times helped. so carry health snacks around so you don't get empty calories.

I would sip ginger beer. It is non-alchoholic and contains lots of real ginger, whereas almost all ginger ale does not. The carbonation helped me, too. It has a strong flavor due to all the ginger, but I liked it. You can usually find it in your grocery store in the organic/natural foods aisle. Good luck and hang in there.

If you are willing to try something all natural homeopathy is the best choice. A great website is http://www.alive.com/2042a5a2.php. Scroll down to "homeopathic helpers" and find the remedy that most closely matches your symptoms. You can then purchase the remedy at a health food store or Longs Drugs. Longs has an entire section devoted to homeopathic remedies. I too am pregnant and found a remedy that most matched my symptoms. I only needed one dose and the symptoms never returned. Its ok if you need more than one dose because it is all natural and doesn't have any side effects.

For me, it was never "morning" sickness. I was sick all day long, all the time, for about three months. My doctor, whom I saw very regularly since I was older and carrying twins through IVF, kept telling me I was fine, but I wish I would have insisted something be done sooner. I ended up severely dehydrated and in the hospital for two days on an IV, and once I was able to eat again and go home, it got better. It was the worst I have ever felt in my life. I stayed in bed all day long and threw up constantly. I tried everything to make it better--crackers, Gatorade, tea, Ginger Ale, preggie pops, and on and on. Absolutely nothing worked until finally I was eating pretty much nothing at all. So, if yours continues despite everything you try, I would definitely express your concern to your doctor. Sorry I could not offer advice on how to make it go away.

Acupuncture.

I had terrible morning sickness with both my pregnancies, PLUS migraines everyday. For at least 4 months.

The only thing that got rid of it, completely, was acupuncture. It just took one session, and it went away immediately right after. I loved it. It does not hurt.

Only go to an acupuncturist that is knowledgeable about pregnant women.

Good luck,
Susan

Ginger drops from Harry and David or lemon drops worked for me. Eating small meals several times a day, always try to keep something in your stomach. I kept a baggie or oyster crackers with me at all times, I would eat a few before I rolled out of bed. Then get up real slow eat a few more if I didn't feel like it was coming back up.

You'd want to confirm with your doctor or look it up online to be sure it's safe during pregnancy, but I'd suggest taking ginger capsules. I get major motion sickness and any time I am seriously sick to my stomach (including the stomach flu) I find that the pure ginger works wonders. I'd do the capsules so you don't have to actually taste it. You can buy these in your local RiteAid or SavOn in the vitamin section.
