Weight Watchers - Annandale,VA

Just curious - is it really possible to lose weight on Weight Watchers if you use ALL your points (daily points, "extra" weekly points, and activity points?)

My husband has had a lot of success on Weight Watchers over the years and he went back on it after the holidays because his pants were tight! So, he asked if I would do it with him, to keep him motivated. I don't really need to lose weight (I'm 5'8", 143 lbs) but I joined b/c he wanted me to and I thought I'd be supportive. Plus, I do eat poorly (an entire bag of Hershey nuggets in 2 days, that sort of thing) and I'm using it as a way to motivate me to eat more fruits and veggies. Sort of like a game to me - if I'm out of points but it's 10pm and I'm hungry, I better eat an apple instead of a bowl of cheese-its!

I've been doing it for 2 weeks and I haven't lost a single pound! The first week I used up ALL points available to me. Last week I didn't even dip into my activity points. But still, nothing. Is it because you're really not supposed to use all the points, just the daily ones? I mean, while I'm doing this I'd love to lose 5 pounds! But it's not happening. Any thoughts or experiences?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for answering! As always, I really appreciate it. I'm still not losing any weight, but I'm attributing it to 2 things. 1) I probably don't need to lose any weight in the first place. 2) I think I'm not as accurate on how many points I'm using a day as I should be. For example, it says one slice of bread at Great Harvest is 5 points. But what I think is a slice is probably 4 slices according to WW!!! I just need to cool it on the junk, and I think I'm doing a little better there. And yes, I do exercise, a TON. Almost to the point of obsession. Today I ran 7 miles. I usually do about 2 or 3 7-mile/days a week, a couple of 4 or 5 mile days and then a day on my elliptical. I like to joke that I exercise so much just so I can eat a loaf of Great Harvest bread in one day, by myself. I guess I'm afraid I'm going to become one of those statistics - "Supposedly healthy woman dies of heart attack." All my friends will say "Oh, she exercised all the time, I assumed she was healthy!" But meanwhile my insides are a mess. But I'm working on it. Thanks ladies :)

I started at 156 / 5'5 tall - want to lose about 20lbs. I started the 1st week or 2 of January. I've lost 6lbs. I guess about a pound per week. Coming off slowly but at least it is coming off. I've been slacking on tracking my food for the past 2 weeks though. I would use all of my points every day pretty much and sometimes dip into my weekly points. Any activity points I earned, I never used them. I was not heavy exercising though. Maybe a couple of times per week.

I lost 10 lbs on WW and it worked out well for me. of course now I'm doing it again, but just to lose 6 lbs, for me I have a harder time losing just a few lbs. My body gets stubborn toward the end. I did reach a plateau though and I truly feel that was my body telling me, this weight works for you so stop. Not sure which it is for you, but your weight and height sound like it's a good point for you.

I had that problem too - and I have plenty of weight to lose and was barely breaking .5 lbs a week. I recently signed onto My Fitness Pal because it's free and heard a lot of good things with it. When I tracked my food in both for a couple days - I was shocked to see the amount of calories in things. Some days I was over in my points - but still had calories left to eat. I realized I wasn't eating a lot of protein to fil me up. I modified My Fitness Pal to increase the amount of protein I eat and limit my carbs/fat to the Zone method 40/30/30. I've lost 5 pounds in 6 days and I'm not feeling deprived at all or extremely hungry either. Now, I'm 100% positive it's due to the increase in protein/decrease in carbs...but still, you don't have any idea with just your points just how much of what you are eating.

I had success with WW years ago (about 10 years ago) but with the new program, not so much. I cancelled my membership (online) and do MFP and love it.

Your current bmi is 21.7. That is definitely in the healthy range. Could you improve your eating habits? sure, we all could. but I'm kind of surprised that they let you join at all. What is your goal weight? I would rather suggest that you learn to eat healthy, take a few walks a week, and stay relatively at the same weight. You are not fat!

When I do WW I use all my daily points, most of the weekly allowance, and rarely have activity points to even consider. As long as I am faithfully tracking I always lose weight on WW.

It has worked for me. But you have to eat your 5 food groups, and even though fruit is 0 pts, it still has calories.. several 0 pts foods are still calories going in. Also your body is designed to use Protein and carbs together... so maybe talk to your leader write everything down. Even if you think it is not significant, your leader will look at it and say.. try this or that.

Good luck

I have done Weight Watchers over the years and quit the last time because I was not losing weight. Of course they have changed the program a few times since then so I can not speak to the current rendition.

I know I was frustrated because I could deprive myself and not lose weight or eat what I wanted and maintain. I've always found that weight loss does not always come down to calorie deficit or exercise. I truly believe our bodies are much more complex than that.

So if anybody figures out the answer, please share!

I lost 85 lbs 40 years ago on the Old WW diet. It was great. Really taught me how to eat. SO here I am still married, four grown children, eight grandchildren, and menopause and have only put back 15 lbs. that diet is imbedded in my brain for life lol. Back then their we're two WW restaurants!
Not sure if utell me I can have a piece of pizza or cookies. Used to make incredible WW desserts so never felt deprived.

I also agree that at your height and weight, you don't need to lose. For me, I didn't want to pick a goal weight until my weight loss started to slow up and I knew my body was around the weight it should be and what would be easy to maintain. I was always able to eat all my daily points plus for my weekly allowance I divided it by 7 so I had an extra 7 points to use each day... I never really tracked activity points but if I walked a lot, I might use some activity points (was never more than 3, but I tried not to get in a habit of using any activity points at all). I was able to lose but some people at the meetings have said that they didnt lose when they dipped into the weekly allowance. So it really depends on the person.

It may be because you don't need to lose weight. I'd ask your leader, it could be you are at the right intake/exercise to maintain your weight but learning better habits is VERY valuable. If you don't need to lose weight, are you at goal weight? I'm wondering if you are following a version of the plan for maintaining you weight.
