Webster Technique and Chiropractors

Has anyone gone to a chiropractor and had the Webster Technique done? I've never been to one and I was just wondering what to expect as far as getting some pelvic pain relief as well as getting this baby turned since it's breech right now. I'm 35 weeks and REALLY don't want another c-section! Also, I've heard that getting the doctor to turn the baby is painful and not always successful...I think pregnancy is uncomfortable enough without that! Anyway, I'd love to hear about anyone's experience with chiropractors.

What can I do next?

My chiro uses the Webster Technique. I used them during my last pregnancy, starting at around 8 wks, and my DD and I still see them. Planning on using them during the next pregnancy as well. It was great. Not the standard 'popping' and 'cracking' that you normally expect from a chiro. I firmly believe that my short labor was due to the fact that I saw the chiro during my pregnancy (it was under 4hrs). And she was pretty much positioned perfectly.

I definetly think you should check it out. It helped me tremedously :)

I am a pregnancy chiropractor and I use both the Webster and Bagnell techniques in my practice. I would encourage you to visit with a local doc ASAP. IME, after 32 weeks, it becomes harder and harder for the baby to turn on his/her own simply because of their size. Not impossible, of course, just harder.

I recently had a VBAC mama whose baby was breech at 34 weeks. After 3 weeks of adjustments, he was still not head down, so she went to her OB for the version. Like you, she had heard it was painful, but hers was barely uncomfortable and the baby turned in about 30 seconds! He stayed head down (and she continued getting adjusted up until the day before she went into labor) and she had a successful VBAC 4 weeks later (10+ lbs, too!). IME, when you get your pelvis balanced through Webster/Bagnell adjustments, generally the versions are easier.

I hope you will go visit the chiropractor ASAP and let us know what happens. I will be thinking of you! And please PM if you have any specific questions.

Yours in health,
Dr. Alyssa

Hi A.,
I'm about 36 weeks and have now seen a chiropractor 3 times in the last few weeks for adjustments and the Webster technique. I had a c-section with my first because of breech presentation and I completely understand your feelings of not wanting another one. I'm currently struggling with the same emotions. I think my little boy is head down now, but I'm not sure it was the chiropractic adjustments that caused the turn.

The adjustments did feel great and relieved some hip/back pain I had been having. My hips have also not hurt during sleep in the last couple weeks like they had before. So, I'm not sure if the adjustments alone, but I have been feeling better and I think my little guy is head down.

Good luck!

I'm a believer. I have had chiropractic care with two of my three pregnancies. My first pregnancy I didn't see a chiropractor, and my baby stayed transverse up until a week before delivery. Her head became trapped in my pelvis, and she was unable to descend through the birth canal. After 17 hours of labor, I ended up with an emergency c-section. I was desperate to have a VBAC with my second, so I started seeing a chiropractor at the beginning of my third trimester. My chiro was AWESOME. She made sure the baby and my pelvis were in the perfect position. I had a natural delivery after only six hours of labor. I saw a chiropractor with my third child as well. He was breech until 34 weeks, but went head down after the using the Webster technique. His cord was tightly wrapped around his neck and looped under his arm, so he wasn't able to rotate during delivery. He was 9.5 pounds and "sunny side up," yet I still had a successful VBAC. I give my well-aligned pelvis and my chiropractor most of the credit. I say go for it. Seeing a chiro might save you from having a c-section, and even if it doesn't turn your breech baby, you'll at least have some relief from the back pain. Good luck and congratulations!

I did! I wish I had known about it sooner. I had a lot of pain and I wanted my baby to get into position. The Webster Technique allowed me to lay on my belly (whoo hoo) and the adjustment was really gentle. I went the week before my due date three times (that was recommended by the Dr). It made me feel like I lost 10 lbs of baby weight afterwards. My doctor sent me to Justin Ohm in Philadelphia. Perhaps they can give you a recommendation for your area.
