Hi Moms -
Does anyone have a video baby monitor that they'd recommend? We don't need anything too fancy, but want something reliable with an adequate picture. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Ours is a Lorex, we got it off Amazon and I really liked it. Good sound and picture quality, plus the battery life was around 6 hours without charging. Avoid Safety First, we initially had one from them but it broke after around 3 months. They sent a replacement that came out of the box broken so we opted for a full refund and then got the Lorex. We have a 2 story house, so a monitor was a must especially at night and I really liked being able to see what was going on. Video monitors aren't a necessity, but it was worth it for us. Ours had 2 way audio, so we could talk to him over it too, it came in handy when he grew up a bit and would wake up. I could tell him it wasn't time to get up yet and he'd lay back down. Totally worth the $$ for us!

We have a summer infant and have never had any problems with it. I would definitely suggest getting one with 2 cameras (or buying a second camera for the original unit) if you plan on having more children within a relatively short time period. I regret not doing that before. I have a 2 year old who will not get out of bed unless we walk into his room and tell him it is ok to get up. He is pretty quiet, and without the monitor I would have no way of knowing he is awake. We also have a 6 month old, so we definitely use a monitor with her. We did not get the second camera and they do not sell the extra cameras anymore (our original is only 2 1/2 years old and works perfectly still) so we ended up using 2 separate monitors. It would be a lot better to be able to have 1 monitor and 2 cameras in different rooms, that way I only have to have the one monitor by me.

We didn't buy a special baby monitor. We bought a security camera that worked in the dark. You get the camera and a receiver that you can hook to any TV (we actually got 2 receivers, so we could have one on our downstairs TV and one in our room). Then if we wanted to see what was going on, we could flip the TV over to the baby channel. We bought it at Sam's club.

We also had a very inexpensive old-fashioned sound only monitor for the middle of the night.

You really do not need a video monitor. If you get a video monitor, you will find yourself running in room for every little thing. This is what young parents say. As for me, babies went Into their own room, own crib without a monitor the day they came home from hospital. I would just go with a regular monitor. I bought one for my house because I babysit my granddaughter every day. I only used it once. I can hear her when she wakes up.
