Good morning mommies! I need feedback from other parents that have used portable, handheld video monitors for their babies. My friend had one by Summers and likes it. I was wondering if anyone else had any feedback as to which ones they used/liked or suggest to avoid. I'm losing sleep over not being able to check on her during the night and when I go in to peek at her she wakes up!!! I need a portable monitor!!!

What can I do next?

We have the summer one and love it. It really does not show color like it says, but has a great pic.

Morning B.,
The monitor that we use and love my daughter is 2 and I still rely on it is it by summer. They have two monitors that you can watch the baby, one is a small T.V. monitor I have friends that have that one, and they have one that is a hand held monitor that has a screen on it that you can click a button on the top and see your baby, that is the one we have, I really have enjoyed and have come to rely on it. I like it because if I am out side doing gardening I can bring it with me, the distance for you reception is really good also. Also, when the times comes for your little one to go stay and grandparents house, very easy to pack up. To me the other one that looks like a little T.V. you can't take it out side with you, pretty much where you put the monitor that is where it stays the one you can the hand held one you can take it along with you.
We got ours at Babies R Us, I want to say it runs about 130.00 maybe 140.00 but it is worth it. As I mentioned we still use ours. Hop ethis helps and God Bless and have a Blessed day!

Hi B.,

I have a Summer black/white video monitor and absolutely love it! I have it on through the night and take it downstairs with me when he naps during the day.
It is a little expensive (I think around $200 or so) but it is definitely worth it in my opinion.

BeBe sounds is a great video monitor. You can only purchase it online. I have had Safety First and Summer and they don't even compare!!! Bebe Sounds is very small and the picture is great. Also it doesn't interfere with your neighbors monitors. I think it cost around $150-$200, but well worth the money.

Hi B.,

I also have the Summer Monitor with night vision and I LOVE it!!! I can see my son at night, and during the day when he naps upstairs I can have the monitor downstairs and it last all day without haveing to recharge it. I bought my first one and hated it because the static was really loud, I took it back and got a new one (same monitor)and I could not be happier. I can even go outside and it still has great reception. There are a bit expensive but well worth it!

we have the graco i monitor and love it. also, to avoid picking up your neighbors...go digital, like the i monitor. plus the range is like 2,000 feet. it's not a video monitor though.
good luck.

I also have the Summers video monitor, and couldn't live without it. It especially helped when she was about 8 months and started waking up without crying, b/c I had no idea how long she was awake in there by herself. Now I know exactly when she wakes up...I don't always go get her immediately if she is happy and I am in the middle of drying my hair or something...but I can see her and know she's safe. I love being able to check on her and make sure she is always safe without going in there and risk waking her up. I keep the sound turned off most of the time because it has kind of a loud hum...but can hear her easily anywhere in my small house, and can click on the sound if I am concerned. btw...mine was only $99...a little pricy but well worth it! This video monitor has been invaluable to me!!!!

I have heard that the one by Summers works well, but didn't use one myself. A friend of mine turned her monitor on one night and realized that she was watching a neighbors baby sleep. Just keep in mind that anyone with a receiver that is tuned to the same channel can also see everything you are seeing. Don't do anything (nursing/walking around without many clothes) that you don't want your neighbors to see.

I am a mother of a 2 year old boy. You really don't need a video monitor, IMHO.
What you need is a very good baby monitor. We purchased one of the more sensitive ones from Babies 'R Us with the dual monitor that lights up when the baby makes a sound.
So that even if your washing out his bottles or doing something that is a bit of noise in another room, you can look at the monitor and see based on the lights being off that she is still asleep. The monitor is so sensitive, you can hear her breathing as she sleeps.
These little ones grow very quickly and before you know it you'll be beyond this phase and on to another one to worry about.

Take Care,
M.

ditto on being careful around the camera- I have a back up camera in my van that normally only comes on when I am backing up but while I am driving I pick up the security video cameras, nanny cams, ect. LOL

I keep my babies in my room until they are old enough to sit up- in other words they are old enough to roll over ect and aren't as much of a risk for SIDS. I usually move them to their room about 6 months, with a regular monitor. They sleep in a smaller then crib pack n play which has plenty of 'back support' for a baby.

B. - no advice as I have never wanted or needed one of these. Just wanted to say how nice it is that she does wake up - in a way. This means that she is so tuned into you and clearly it is mutual. That is so special! And, wonderful. Nice to hear. Good luck on your needs here - hope you get many great responses.

I couldn't have slept at all w/out the Bebe brand 'Angel Sounds' movement monitor. I wasn't worried about not seeing my babies...just that they could stop breathing! Even if you're looking into a monitor of them sleeping, it didn't put my mind at ease knowing if they were breathing or not. So this particular monitor has a movement pad that goes under the crib mattress. If there is no detected movement/vibration from breathing/heartbeat within 20 seconds, an alarm goes off. I had only one false alarm the two yrs I had one for each of my babies. Only prob is when you get up in the middle of the night to nurse. Just as you get them up, sit down and latch on...you forget you didn't turn it off and the beeping starts!! A couple of times of THAT and you'll remember!! Good luck!
