I have a 2 month old son and we need a new baby monitor b/c the one we have from our 3 1/2+ old son doesn't work that well anymore. My husband wants a video monitor. Any suggestions? We would like to have two receivers, is that possible w/ video monitors? Are they worth the extra cost than a regular audio monitor? Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thx!

I will agree with the majority of the responders - LOVE LOVE LOVE the video monitor. For the first year we only a regular monitor and experienced many episodes of diaper taking off, poop painting, crib chewing etc. This is because we would listen and she would be in there making small noises but nothing that sounded like she was up to no good, but boy was that wrong. When she was around 15 months we got the video monitor and I cannot believe we waited that long - what a different experience the prior 15 months would have been - how many aggravating naptimes, messes to clean up and all the destruction on the crib that could have been prevented. It's absolutely amazing - you can really see what they are doing and you know when you have to go in and when they are just playing or settling down etc. We still use it and my little one is over 2.5. LOVE it. We have the summer infant handheld - got it used on Craigslist for $95. Best $95 I spent - the woman selling it had a little girl only about 2 months older than mine and I couldn't believe she was parting with it.. Would gladly pay 200+ - worth every penny. If there's one piece of advice I give any new mother (ie a friend asking , not just random pestering of new mothers) - it's to get a video monitor. You will never know how much trouble you prevent and what peace of mind comes with it. Priceless. Only trouble I have with ours is that the battery doesn't last long so we always keep it plugged in to watch.

Congrats and enjoy!

We have a summer video monitor and I love it. We have the older one so the screen is about 4 or 5 inches. If it was a smaller screen, I don't know if I would like it so much. I have a hard enough time seeing my son on it.

I also love my Summer Video. I can't imagine not having the video option. I also have a basic audio only that I can take in the bathroom if I shower or whatever, and it's handy to do that, but no way could I live without the video. I didn't get the handheld video, since I had the basic audio one for the handheld use. My video one looks more like a little tv and I leave it in my bedroom. I am not sure about 2 receivers, but they do audio ones with two receivers, so I don't see why not. Definitely worth it.

I really think video monitors are a waste of money unless you have a baby with a health concern (or family history of them). Children sleep through all kinds of noise and it's easy to walk in and check on them! Plus, I often will give my babes a kiss as I'm going to bed and whisper that I love them. They are 2 and 3 now, and never wake up from this moment. During those times that baby cries out, just wait, see if he goes back to sleep, and if not, then go in. I just think there are so many other ways to spend $200-300 (6-10 dinners out!), and there is no real benefit to a video monitor. I would just find a regular monitor on Craigslist or something, for cheap.

I have the summer video monitor and love it. It does not have 2 recievers they might make them Im not sure this one ran just under 200.00
There are times when Lucas has cried that I probably would of went into the room but was able to watch his movements to figure out if he was just moving around and gonna fall back asleep or if it was time to get him. To me it is worth every penny!

I use the Summer Infant video monitor and am about to buy the extra monitor to go with it. I think the orignal one was like $179 and the second monitor is about $99. You can look it up at www.babiesrus.com

I don't have any idea of the brand or how much it cost because it was a hand-me-down, but I LOVED my video monitor! My sister gave it to me because she said once her daughter started moving around the video just showed the empty spot in the crib where she had been, but I rigged it where it was connected to the window blinds up high and pointed down so I could see the entire inside of the crib. We used it right up until we switched to a toddler bed.

We have the Summer day & night handheld video monitor. We LOVE it. It was the best purchase I made. Seriously. You can check on them without risking going in & waking them up. Once or twice we saw our younger son in a position we were unsure of (he had just started sleeping on his belly), and so we were able to see him move a bit. We have a 2 year old (still in crib) and a 7 month old. There is a camera on each, and we use the same handheld monitor for both of them (we just switch back a&b depending on who we want to look at). Hope that helps!

Oh - you do have to buy the extra camera separately (I think $99). Interestingly, I think the additional camera is a bit better.

we have the summer infants video monitor and yes it is worth the extra money over the audio one...we only have one receiver but it a portable (battery operated) handset with small lcd screen...very easy to bring with you wherever you are in your home. i recommend this to everyone...i could not have gotten through the newborn stage without it! and we still use it today with our youngets (2yo) to make sure he's not jumping out of his crib...

We have 2 video monitors - Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor (LOVE IT) & the Summer Infant Slim & Secure Handheld Video Monitor (HATE IT - Bringing it back tomorrow)

We have had the Day & Night for almost 2 years and I do not have one complaint. You can literally hear the baby breathing!

We bought the Slim & Secure because it says you can get upto 3 cameras, so we figured if our other one died, we could just get another camera rather than the entire monitor. If you have a wireless internet connection - DO NOT GET THE SLIM & SECURE. It interferes with the connection, you have to turn the monitor off to use your internet. It also does not have the rage that the Night & Day has. We have a pretty big back yard - the Slim & Secure goes out of range - but the Night & Day does not.

Sorry for that novel, but the Slim & Secure has been ticking me off for weeks, I am finally just going to bring it back.
