So I've decided to buy a new tv instead of fixing the broken one. What brand do you have and why do you like it? My current is a Samsung 52 in LCD flatscreen. I have a big living room so I'd like to get something between 42-52inches. Also I'd like to stay under $1,200.

What can I do next?

TVs are improved yearly. Knowing what someone likes that they bought a year or more ago is probably not going to help you know which is best now. I, too, suggest that you read reviews. And.....go to a store that has several and visually compare them.

We've had our 52" Sony Bravia since 2008 and no problems so far, even after a major move! So at least in terms of staying quality, the Sony appears to be pretty good. As for the current models, I sadly know nothing.

When we bought ou r TV a few years ago the Samsung's got the best ratings all around. Go online and read reviews.

Sharp and Samsung were the best brands when I was doing research a few weeks ago. I ended up with a 46" Samsung LCD LED and love it. My research showed that you want an LCD TV with LED lighting, 1080 something (I forget what). Not 720. And Wifi if if you can find it.

Sams Club and Costco have some great deals. I think my TV was $680.

We have twin Sony Bravia's in our family room. We have a very large family room and the fireplace separates 2 identical entertainment cabinets and the Sony's are in the cabinets. Works out great if you want to watch 2 things of have all action!! I think they are somewhere between 42 and 46" each.

We have a Samsung in the Bedroom, 2 Dell 52" Plasmas (I don't recommend the Plasmas.. they get very hot) We've had the Dell's about 7 yrs each but neither is used much.. they are in game rooms. Daughter has a small Sharp in her room that is nice, LCD.

We paid less than $1000 for the Samsung, about $1300 maybe for the Bravia's, $400 for the Sharp, and when we bought the Dell's we paid over $3000 each. We'd buy the Bravias again in a heartbeat.

I can't imagine you'd have any trouble staying under $1000. We bought a Samsung 52" 3D tv almost two years ago for under $1000. Of course that didn't include the 3D Blu-Ray Player or the glasses, so it ended up being closer to $1200. Just wanted to give you a ballpark figure.

I agree with the others. Go to Best Buy and Sears and ask lots of questions.

Your budget is *totally* doable!

Go to what ever store strikes you fancy and look around! Then come home and do a Google search on the ones you like and read the reviews, that's what we do!

~At that price, you might even get a LED, which is the latest and greatest.

We are a 'Sharp or Panasonic' household but everyone is different, you really gotta go to the store and see what looks best to you!
