Ttc--exercise and Also Really Need Some Ibuprofen

2 questions on the same topic: We have been trying to conceive for over a year now. Started up on clomid again the last few cycles (used clomid for my 1st 2 as well). I chart basal body temp, monitor cervical fluid, etc, so no advise (including the "relax, don't stress about it, it will happen when you stop trying" type of advise please. I am wondering, for those of you who exercise regularly pre- and during pregnancy, did you decrease your intensity trying to conceive? I do "spin" class 2 to 3 days a week, and it is intense--like I am soaked with sweat when I am done. The other days I TRY to run 2 to 5 miles (but I hate treadmill running, so I have been less than diligent with this). I DO give myself a day or 2 off (sometimes 3 or 4), so I am working out typically 3 to 6 days per week, pretty intensely, but nevet to the point of feeling like I am going to pass out. Perhaps the intensity is interfering? But I know of women who continue to "compete" while trying to conceive and are successful. 2nd question: I know you're not supposed to take ibuprofen DURING pregnancy, but what about while trying to conceive--I have a sore throat and ear pain that tylenol barely takes the edge off of. Would like to take ibuprofen but am right at the time I should be ovulating and I don't want to interfere with 1)ovulation and 2)the right "chemistry" for conception/implantaition to occur. Any thoughts? I'd like some insight before I head to work.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sperm was checked previously. It is me--since I was a teenager I only ovulate/get a period about 8 times a year on my own, with cycles anywhere from 5 weeks to 8-9 weeks. All other blood work has come back fine for hormones, thyroid, etc. Hard to "relax" and "just let it happen" when you are totally aware of the changes in cervical fluid. Anyway...I will continue to exercise but possibly decrease intensity; took the ibuprofen--much better--must have needed the anti-iunflammatory that tylenol lacks.

I know you really really want this to happen but I got to tell you. I think getting preg. is like trying to watch a pot of water to boil. It only happens when you look away.
The med you are thinking about taking won't stay in your system long and you should not worry about taking them.
You need to take care of yourself and get some rest.
Feel better soon.

M.,
I would back off from the exercise until you feel better. Ear infections need to be taken care of.
What is your nutrition like? That can effect conception.
Good luck and God bless.

The exercise shouldn't be an issue unless your body fat percentage is so entirely low that it is interfering with your body's ability to naturally produce female sex hormones. Then again, you're on Clomid so you're actually getting the hormones you need. I struggled with fertility issues but conceived my second child using BBT charting and CM awareness all while running 3-5 miles per day plus serious strength training. Personally, I think the regularity of proper nutrition and exercise put my body in the best shape possible to conceive. It sounds like your exercise regiment is intense but not at the professional level so I wouldn't think that it would negatively affect your chances at conception. I have no idea about question #2.

Best wishes to you!

Take the Ibuprofen! I have 26 weeks pregnant now, and at 21 weeks I damaged my intercostal muscles. My OB told me I could take 600mg 4 times a day for 3 days since I was less than 32 weeks prego. They don't recommend it for long term, and don't recommend it after 32 weeks, but it is safe if you follow those guidelines.
