Trolls

Am I the only one who is disappointed with the way this site handles trolls?

I just got the email that they deemed the troll last night was seeking advice and the "questions" will stand. I get if you look at each "question" alone some may actually look like questions. Still I would think enough people reported last night that it should have been clear this was nothing but a troll.

As a bonus question, does anyone still have that CEO guy's email address? This is flipping stupid! When trolls come on the people that really need help are ignored, that just isn't fair.

What can I do next?

Why worry so much?

All you have to do is not read the posts or answer them.

That's what I do.

If they get no attention, sooner or later, they just go away.

Just my opinion.

It would be best if people didn't feed the trolls! This morning, I saw the string of questions and no one had responded, but now there were lots of responses -- people who clearly knew the person was a troll, but chose to respond and say "hey, you're a really bad troll!" Since trolls are only there to get attention, why feed them?!

I saw the barrage of questions this morning and was glad to see most of them remained unanswered because clearly it was the work of a troll. However, for the few answers that were given were just as bad as the troll's questions in my opinion. One in particular was something about losing weight by the 4th of July and an answer was go to the kitchen, find the biggest knife in the drawer and cut off the unwanted fat..I am paraphrasing, but it was something to that affect. Really? I know trolls are immature and annoying, but responses like that are way out of line as well. There were like 10 flowers posted to that response too. To me, I believe trolls are immature teens/young people that are bored and trying to rile up people on this site. But the people that respond are mothers/fathers and should be above this sort of back talk. Ignore them and they will go away! God bless,
A.

What really sucks is the trolls get more power than some of the regulars. I had post pulled because I hurt someones feelings, someone who is always very negative and mean to people, but the trolls can do what they want. Whatever! :)

i wouldn't mind the trolls as much as if the PTB were less invested in screwing around with those of us who actually participate on the site. i don't get posts pulled often, mind you, but when i do i'm generally shocked at the reason. if they're going to allow trolls to proliferate, they should jolly well lighten up about an occasional snarky comment from a reg.

The monitoring stinks, leaves us feeling powerless against the trolls.
I deal with enough of them in real life.

And it's like you said earlier, this isn't even a fun to mess with troll, this troll is ignorant and can't capture us enough to wanna play.

____@____.com, his name is Marc.

I agree that there should be a "Report as Troll" on the profile page to report a person or account as a troll and they go into an "investiagation" to determine their "troll-like" activities and status.

I reported several of them, and got several different "canned" answers...

At any rate, they have ALL been pulled!

If you really want to see the person's question without "opening" the post, go to their profile... you can see the question pretty easily that way.

And.. the best answer is to not reply to them... just report them, and go on. Don't talk to them.... don't try to argue with them or tell them to go away. They're just looking for attention.

You know what, a site like Mamapedia is open for anyone to sign up and use it. The very fact that its so easy for people who can really make use of such good sites, is also trouble for the very same reason. It is also easy for people who are looking to cause trouble. :(
I guess the best we can do, is to ignore such questions (which we think are troll ones, or which we believe can stir up quite a lot of trouble), report them if required, and just move on.

I just think of them as the annoying, loud person at a party who you may get stuck with for a minute. You try not to get too deep into conversation and then move on as quickly as possible.

Just like weirdos in real life sometimes I find the "trolls" a tad entertaining. Not sure how it prevents others from being heard, it's usually pretty obvious whose who and you can always just pass over the troll questions.

I have never reported a single post on this site. I think in the vast majority of situations free speech should reign. If it really seemed like they were taking over then I might but it would have to be pretty severe. What about posts being pulled from sincere people for no valid reason? Won't that increase if they start policing more? I'd rather let just about anything stay then have posts pulled too easily.

Off to a party, wish me luck in avoiding the weirdos.
Happy Fourth!!!!

They probably don't work round the clock, J..
What you got was likely an automated response.
Trolls (and some regulars) know exactly when to post for the maximum screen time before they get pulled.
I don't think there are any blatant troll posts that have gone UNpulled, are there, J.?

The troll questions (and that last O. was persistent, wasn't it?) can be skipped, ignored, responded to genuinely or sarcastically. We all have that choice.

Well, I agree that Troll's are a pain but unfortunately a very common problem on social/media web. I report when it's very vulgar, but otherwise I ignore.
Further, I think websites that have a large amount of female traffic tend to have drama. Some women who would never have the guts to say it to a persons face, can pretty much be a masked bully online. There are A LOT of rude winches in this world, but I'm sure that's not new "news". I try to be positive to those who are kind and helpful and pray karma comes back to bite the rude ones.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
If the site can't recognized when they are being spammed, they are going to lose their audience.
It's happened to other sites - this won't be the first and it won't be the last.
They've been criticized in the past for being too critical, too monitor happy, too delete happy.
Now we're seeing what happens when the pendulum swings the other way and they let nonsense stay posted.
When people complain - be careful what you wish for - you might get it.
They still get to decide what is a waste of disk space.
The definition is just a bit more wasteful right now than it use to be.

I reported and didn't GET ANY messages from MP!!!

Yes. Still have Marc's e-mail address...you want it?

I think the questions were pulled. I hope they were. It was just bad. It would have been more fun if the person/troll had attempted something like the ketchup kid!! that was fun!!!'

this one was just sad and boring.
