Okay, now that we got our washer (per my previous posts. Got the Maytag Bravos by the way, love it, it had great reviews on Consumer Reports), we now need a new toilet for our guest bathroom.

So, 1-piece or 2-piece toilet?
What brand? American Standard seems to be a favorite.

What do you have or like?

TIA!

What can I do next?

My husband is a plumbing contractor and always recommends kohler over all the rest. Great toliet for the price and parts are easy to get if replacement is needed down the road.

My husband replaced all 4 of our this summer.

He went with the enolgated 2 pieced Kohler 1.6gal/6 liter or less per flush. I love them.. easy to keep clean as well.

We really like these and they are a much higher quality than what our builder installed which was American Standard (the cheapest thing they could find, LOL)

My hubby is not a contractor on in construction, he likes to DIY things. The first one was a learning experience but the ONLY issues he had with any of there were repairing some of the lax work the builder did to "make them work and pass inspection". Hubby did a much better, cleaner job than the builder.

I think he spent a little less than $200 per toilet and I don't know how much supplies costs. The labor is hard so if you hire it done, I would expect it to cost you at least $500 per toilet.

We have done many remodels in our rentals and it seems that as long as you have someone install it correctly (without breaking the wax ring) any brand should be fine. We usually purchase the less expensive ones (with an extra wax ring just in case) at Lowes or Home Depot and have never had any trouble with them.

my husband was actually just bitching the other day because we have a 2 piece toilet and he prefers a 1 piece. He says there is much less likelihood of leaking in the tank. He built his own house (before me) and so I am inclined to believe him on all things construction.

I'd recommend a one piece Toto. We've had one for about 8 years, and it's been trouble free. I want to replace our other toilets with Totos when I have the money. They flush and refill fast and rarely clog. The one piece design is easy to keep clean, less nooks and crannies to deal with.

I have found american standard to be the cost leader, in other words, yawn, but cheap.

I have Kohler Cimarron, http://www.us.kohler.com/us/Cimarron-Toilets/content/CNT1...

Two piece makes it easy to install, 178 for the elongated bowl, and it uses a gallon of water to flush and so far has always been a one flush. We have had ours for around 8 months.

Looking at the other comment, nonsense! A one piece does not leak any more of less than a two piece. If you understand the science of a toilet you would understand there is no difference other than aesthetics.

If a man's opinion is required my husband also prefers a two piece. He has actually built homes without the use of other contractors and can build the fixtures in the house. I win! :p

Toto or Kohler. We're doing a whole house remodel in the next few months which will include gutting and rebuilding 3 full bathrooms. I'm using Toto or Kohler and not even considering any other brand.
