Super Easy Belts

Mamas & Papas-

Any suggestions on a super easy belt for my son? I seem to remember that there were elastic ones with magnetic clasps growing up. The few I've come across in the shops are built like downsized adult belts (leather with a real buckle). Seems too much for my kid to handle, esp when he is in the habit of leaving his bathrooming to the very last minute.

Thanks,
F. B.

What can I do next?

Yard sales here in the south. But, in the north its too cold for yard sales now, so thrift stores or children's resale stores?

We used elastic - not with magnetic clips but with 2 metal ends that linked together (one inserts in the other with a slight twist - easy to manage). We liked the type that had an additional adjustment to lengthen or shorten the amount of elastic (you have to do that, it's beyond the kid's ability). I highly recommend them. They last a long time and they were particularly helpful for pants that don't stay on little kids with no waist, and allowed us to buy pants a little too big to get more wear out of them. We also had a plain black one to go with dress pants. The elastic ones have a lot of designs that kids enjoy - sports teams, dinosaurs, etc. I'd look in the boys' department of major department stores and also kids' resale shops.

Check Etsy for boy canvas belts. My cousin used to make ours. For the littler kids she made them with velcro closures. Super easy. As they got a bit bigger it was the D-shaped silver loop. My kids were obsessed with their belts. Good luck!

** I just checked and there are some super cool ones!

You might go to a sewing store...they will have a woven 'belt' material. They also will have a variety of 'buckles'. I might also suggest velcro as a closure. A little hand sewing, and you would be good to go!

Best!

Or you could try suspenders...I did that a lot when kiddos were young.

Dapper snappers .... Seriously amazing belts for littles ... Bonus, they don't impair potty training.

Its pretty easy to make belts for children. I use to do it because my kids were all skinny and pants use to just kind of fall off them. I'd go to Joanns and get grossgrain ribbon and then sew an interlocking horse shoe shaped ring clasp closure onto the ends. Fast, easy, and when the belt got too tight or they didn't like to color anymore I was able to reuse the clasp with new ribbon. The interlocking horse shoe ring was easy for them to open and close.

How old is your son? That is why we don't do belts either bc my 5 year old waits until the last minute. I started buying him pants with adjustable waist so that we don't have to buy belts. Works awesome!

It's been a while but Target and Old Navy used to sell pants and jeans with adjustable waists. There was elastic and buttons built into the waistbands, hidden on the inside. So you would just pull the elastic and secure it to the button for a custom fit, and your kid can easily get the pants on and off, up and down.
I would look for those, or elastic waist pants. Belts are a pain for kids, just not practical.

Adjustable waist pants. We avoid the belt completely.
