How Do You Find Pants for a Skinny Little Girl?

My 3-year old daughter (almost 4) has the worst time with jeans to fit her. She is absoutely tiny. And yes, I have asked my pediatrician about her size and she is not concerned. She is steadinly growing...she is just a tiny girl. Jeans in her age group 3T fall off her in the waist. If I go down a size or so, they fit in the waist but are too short. In fact, I took an outfit out of the closet this morning that had been given to us quite so time back. It was brand new and size 24 months...the pants literally fell off her little butt! Am I just stuck getting her leggings and spandex type pants for the forseeable future?

What can I do next?

once she is tall enough for size 4 (not 4T) they make regular and slim sizes. good places for slims are gymboree, target, jcpenney. Slims are hard to find and not plentiful in any store.

When my daughter was a size 3 she wore leggings from gymboree ... also target cotton stretch pants (bootcut ) tend to be slimfitting.. childrens place cotton pants tend to be slim fitting..

my daughter is almost 6 very tall and very slim... she weighs 36 pounds and is 44 inches tall. all of her pants are slims. she does have some leggings and soft cotton pants that fit.

Almost every pair of pants I have found have those adjustable wastes. When you are shopping just look inside the waste band for a strap and a button on each side.

My youngest is a little next to nothing. If it wasn't for that she would only wear dresses.

My daughter has the same problem. She's 4, tall & thin, with a teeny waist. Adjustable waist jeans/pants are a must for us! GapKids, OshKosh, Children's Place & Gymboree all have them. Target also carries them (including the OshKosh line made for Target). I seem to remember that all of these stores are either in or near Tampa. (My Mom lives near Tampa, so we've been shopping there.) Good luck!

My daughter is also 3 with the same issue. Children's place has great clothes for slim toddler sizes.
For the future, they also have slim sizes in little girl clothes (size 4s and up!)

My daughter is the same age and has the same problem. For now she wears leggings with a long shirt, dress, or elastic waist skirt (2T for waist size). There are no jeans that fit her now. Hopefully soon she will be able to wear size 4 slim skinny jeans, but we tried some on today and they are still too big. They sell them at Kohls, and they fit my older daughter who is built the same way. They are slim jeans with an adjustable waist so we tighten them as much as possible.

I have the same issue with my 3 year old daughter. Totally healthy - just a peanut! We do alot of leggings too. Check out this website they sell these belts that only go on the back of the pants so its easy for potty-training and diaper changing. They come in alot of color and are reasonably priced. Best wishes!

I sew elastic into the pants. It is my only option!

That and making elastic belts.

K-mart has adjustable waist pants too. Old Navy and Kmart run big though. I like Children's Place. I also take in many of my daughter's pants at the waist if they aren't adjustable. It is really easy if you sew at all, almost as easy as sewing a button.

I found some jeans (one pair is Levi's) in 2T for my daughter. They, also, are too big in the waist, but next size down is too short. Anyway, these jeans had an adjustable elastic band on the inside. It basically amounts to a drawstring, but the elastic has buttonholes that you stretch to the desired hole & put over the button. LOVE them. Her pants stay up AND they're long enough!

Adjustable waist jeans/pants or leggings, some of which are made of denim with stretchy spandex or lycra so are similar to skinny jeans. My granddaughter is 10, wears an 8/10/12 in tops but leggings are basically the way she has to go in bottoms, although for a function we had to attend this past August she was able to keep a pair of size 6X purple jeans up, and the shorter length on her made them look like capri pants.

Most retailers sell adjustable waist pants/jeans up to size 6 or so.

The Target Circo jeans I would recommend may not start until size 4 (so keep them in mind for later). They are what fits my skinny girl best. You can also get them in a slim and they do have an adjustable waist.

We have tried Old Navy and Childrens Place and even if you pull the waist there is too much fabric and they are ill fitting.

When she is not wearing jeans we love Gymboree and Justice leggings (although Gymboree's quality is far better). Circo leggings and Old Navy yoga pants are just to big in the waist for her length.

Adjustable waist! Seriously!

My daughter is the same age as your only she has a 2T size waist but 4T size legs! Adjustable waist pants are genius!

My daughter is younger, but is also tall and skinny, so we have the same problem..

I have just decided to have her wear leggings, jeggings, and skirts or dresses with tights. (thick wool tights in winter) I was super-skinny growing up and I wore a lot of dresses and skirts- rather than high water jeans.

Of course the other option is to buy some belts. I have even seen elastic belts for little kids, (which would be great for potty emergencies.)

Good Luck!

I also agree - look for the adjustable elastic inside the waistband. I've found it in various stores, like WalMart and Target, JC Penny (I believe it was Arizona brand) and Old Navy. Most of the time it's the only pants (other than leggings) that stay up on my girl. Jeans are the worst. MUST have that or they'll sag so bad.

Target, Kohls and many places have the pants with the adjustable waist band inside the waist...

Both of my kids have to have them.

Try Gymboree - my kids are skinny with long legs, & so far it is the best place to find the skinniest-waisted jeans with (necessary!) adjustable waistbands. They have the most slim-cut pants I can find. Target, Old Navy, Kohl's, even Gap have slim/adjustable waistband pants, but Gymboree's are the only ones that really fit my kids.

If you want to try a catalog, Mini Boden & NEXT are European-made & slimmer (C.W.D. & Hanna Andersen have wider waists).

GOOD LUCK! I know how frustrating this is -

Either adjustable waist or belts. My daughter is the same way and it hasn't changed at all since she was little. She's 13 now and still can't wear some brands.
The higher end the brand name the skinnier and longer they seem to be. She lived in gap kids but now that she can fit into adult sizes she has a much easier time. It's a pain when they're small but as a teen she's not complaining about it now at all!

I go to Old Navy, they have adjustable waist jeans. Although she is generally in elastic waist pants, sometimes you want jeans.

I only buy pants with adjustable elastic waistbands. I know Target and Old Navy have them and I think Walmart. I've gotten some from Janie & Jack as well (they're expensive but when they have clearance sales they're good and I have found them in resale stores too)There is a piece of elastic with a whole bunch of button holes through a waist casing, there are 2 buttons on each side. You pull the elastic tight then button it at that point. I have tall skinny kids and this is the only way I can get pants to fit them.

Gymboree is made for skinnier kids. Also, Miss Me jeans are made for a taller, skinnier build. I know you can buy them at Nordstrom, but probably you could find them elsewhere too. (And sooo cute!) If you can ever find them on sale, True Religion jeans are great for skinny kids as well. Buy a size down, they're super long.

If all else fails, dresses with leggings underneath work well. We like Tea brand - soft and cottony and comfy!

I get my 4 year old's pants from Gymboree. She's in the 95th percentile for height, and is very, very slim. I just got her some 5T "slim" pants and they fit perfectly (I roll them up or hem them and let them out as she grows).
