L.S.
I've never met chocolate that I didn't like!! But a fav is chocolate covered pretzles: crunchy, salty AND chocolaty - it's win-win-win! lol
Earlier today there was a great post from a dieting mom whose husband felt the need to remind her repeatedly of how she managed to put away a half bag of cookies although she is supposedly 'on a diet'. Grrrrr.
But that's not what I want to ask.
Those of us who INCREDIBLY still engage in Emotional Eating (and YEAH, we all KNOW how TERRIBLE that is!), which do you choose? Are you more of a Chinese Food, Pepperoni and Saltines kinda girl, or is it cheesecake and Ben and Jerry's? Or is one washed down by the other?
Ya know, just humor me here, ok?
:)

salt & vinegar potato chips
strawberries slathered with Nutella
I like both...depends on my mood.
I did not see that earlier post, but I'd like to punch that husband in the nose.
give me a box of little debbie swiss rolls and it's on! If I had no self control I would probably eat the whole dang box!!! Especially if I was depressed! :-)
Definitely more sugar than salt. I love candy - chocolate, or anything gummy, especially Swedish Fish or anything sweet/sour, like Sour Patch Kids. I also love any and all baked goods, like cookies, brownies and pie. Even better when ice cream is added!
I can walk past the brownies and head straight for the FAT and SALT!!! I love chips and dip and I love sunflower seeds (although I recently stopped cold turkey cuz I was eating a POUND a day!!). My hubby on the other hand LOVE LOVE LOVES the candy holidays (v-day, easter, holloween...) cuz he LOADS up on the after sale 75% off bags of candy! So we get along great cuz he doesn't touch my chips and I don't touch his candy! Match made in HEAVEN!! LOL!!!
I like to smoosh my salt and sugar together for a giant party in my mouth...I will do chips and chocolate bars all at once.
Why be lady like about it....I love it.
Chips. Pop Chips to be specific :)
And you know what else is good? Plain M&M's mixed with salty popcorn, sweet AND salty, yum yum
This is why the chocolate covered pretzel could be the best invention ever. It satisfies both craving at the same time.
Depends on the day! During my period its salty for sure, and my weakness is sour cream & onion lays. I eat those like I am eating the last bag on earth and everyone else wants them. And than there are days like today that I would give a kidney for a piece of chocolate!!
It's one washed down by the other :(
Pretzel rods and Whoppers are both almost always on my desk at work.
sugar!!!!!!! Oh man I need some right now...
Almost always sugar! Ice cream, chocolate, sweet coffee, etc. Occasionally I go for popcorn or pretzels, but even if I crave trail mix, I must have chocolate and lots of dried fruit in it...darn the sugar!!!
I'll chow on some salt and vinegar chips and have some cookies and milk for dessert.
Mmm cookies and milk, thank goodness we don't have any in the house.
It depends on the day of the week. Normally, I would tell you salt, but I've been sneaking little bits of dark chocolate lately, and almost ate a whole batch of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, so I guess THIS week, it's sugar.
But, usually I try to keep my cravings to healthy things, like trail mix, fruit...
Salty snacks for sure!! I'd take a handful of chips over chocolate any day.
Both!!!!!! Ice cream [When I'm not being good- peppermint bon bon or chocolate chip. When I'm counting, McDonald's vanilla cone for 150 calories] and Doritos Nacho Cheese [150 calories for 1 oz] are my weaknesses.
Used to drink pop ALL of the time! Now I drink diet pop and crystal light ALL of the time.
Diet Coke & Chocolate!
My sister and I were just having this discussion! I prefer sweets- chocolate especially while my sis prefers salty.
Both! During snack time between meals (or when I'm bored), I generally go salty. But I ALWAYS have room for a sweet dessert!!
Salt! Tortilla chips, popcorn, potato chips ESPECIALLY salt n vinegar :-)
I used to have a sweet tooth and I still like the occasional sweet treat but I love Salty things whether I'm eating emotionally, PMSing, or just chillin' out.
Both. My drug of choice really can come down to eating too often period.
Just today I've had a chicken breakfast wrap from Wendy's and some fries. Then I had yogurt with granola and a banana cut up in it. Later on I had a glass of slim fast. Then on the way to get my daughter from the airport my grandson and I downed a deli tub of diced melons. When I got home I had a single serving size of mixed veggies that you steam in the microwave. It's the kind coated with a nice little sauce and I put a slice of cheese on top.
Some of that was healthy and some not. But mostly if I even had a clue how many calories it is, it's probably too much. Oh....UGH...I had 2 ice cream bars. They are a small variety around 100 calories each. But 2?
It's only 5:13 and I guarantee you I won't go the rest of the day without eating something. The only way I could maybe get through the night is if I put this little night-time boy down around 8 and fall asleep on the couch waiting for his parents. It's really hard getting to sleep early in my house with so many people around.
When I crave, it's salt and grease. I'm not much into sweets.
I'll take both please! : )
One for each hand! HAHAHAHAHA
@ tat2d-2-b-amuse - you should try a hershey kiss on top a ritz cracker ~ it's a craving I had when I was pregnant with my 3rd child, and now I still eat them - it is AWESOME!!
I guess salty - not a sweets person - Pizza, sandwiches loaded high, mashed potatoes and gravy, salsa and chips, BLT, spaghetti, on and on and on....... I haven't had breakfast yet :)
Neither!
Me?
Caffeine!
If I had to choose, between sugar or salt, per your posted question: then salty.
But I don't put extra salt on anything.
I don't crave it.
But I am not a sweets person.
So thus I chose salt.
I don't really do emotional eating, either. Nor do my kids.
Hate me!
I don't crave anything when PMS'ing either... I just get irritable and bitchy!
ROFL
Sweet and Salty together - Lindt Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt Yum, But my real problem is with Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, if I start I cannot stop, just can't get enough of it!
I want it all. Sometimes I crave salty sometimes sweet. But, mainly salt. I'm a real food kind of girl. I would rather eat food then snacks. But then again I love snacks. I don't know. Now I'm hungry.
If I had one, it would be all of the above. I LOVE sugar. Desserts...yummy. Chinese food, chips, etc...so yummy.
I suppose I'm "lucky" in that I feel AWFUL physically if I eat poorly...especially things with sugar in it. My body will ache so bad for days if I eat it. I used to think I had fibromyalgia (a dr diagnosed me with that), but it was really the food!
It's taken a lot of self control (and years) to finally stop eating them except super rarely...but I still love them all...especially the sugar stuff. Though I eat the other stuff more...but still not real often...but I wish I could!
Not sweets. I don't like them at all.
When I'm going for comfort food; I'm talking STEAK. Ceviche. Sushi. Saag Panner. $50 homemade mac'n'cheese that you may as well just smear on your bum, becuase it passes your digestive system and just heads straight there. Hot toasted sammies. Sex. Spicy Bloody Mary's. Tandoori w/ that green and purple sauce.
All washed down with the one place I DO get my sweets from; an ice cold coke. And if I'm really upset, skip the drugstore nicotine and head straight for chocolaty cuban cigars.
Food in general, I don't descriminate :)
But im all about a snickers followed by some ice cream followed by whatever else I can find! Booo :(
Chocolate and salt combo! There's a new Ghirardelli flavor, dark chocolate sea salt. Heaven!
SUGAAAAAR! I've always said if I'm on Survivor, or left somewhere for a month and starved, as soon as I get to eat....forget the steak, forget the pizza, forget the fries, JUST GIVE ME CAKE!
For emotional eating...It's basically anything I can get my hands on and it goes down fast during the day, so I wind up eating more than what I really intended depending on the time of the day. (Yeah, I'm funny like that. The time of the day matters, because I will eat more during daytime emotional eating than during nighttime emotional eating.) When I was young, I couldn't eat when I was upset...Now, it's different...I eat and eat and eat. I only eat "comfort foods" at night, which is 1 bag of popcorn and 1 glass of wine mixed with 7up. (Great way to pack on pounds or undo what I already lost!) After I'm done, I feel guilty and pretty stupid. I thought maybe I'd work on distractions to emotional eating like walking away to go for a walk/exercise...Not always able to do that...I thought of reading a good book...Works great at night, but the dog and I have a nighttime snack and if I'm upset, the snack can be pretty big and full of calories....I try to always have healthier junk food available for upsets, which works out really well. (You know, those 100 cal. packs so you don't over eat.) ...Another idea I'm thinking about trying is adding the "God factor." I'm not trying to be religious, so if you're not into God, you can substitute destress meditation or reword stuff. The "God factor" is basically asking God for help by praying or acknowledging that "this too shall pass"..."everything always works out in the long run"...."We can get through this, because I have faith in God/us."
Now, if your talking cravings.....Yes, there is a poison...Salt. Not because I crave it. I usually crave sweet stuff, but I can handle those cravings easily. Salt is in everything, so it is more difficult for me to stay away from.
I dated Ben and Jerry for a while after my divorce. Well, them and Jim Beam. Yeah, we had a love hate relationship while I tried to figure out how I was going to raise a baby by myself. Then someone took a pic of me at a family reunion standing next to my mother who, God love her, has been perpetually 75-100 pounds overweight for several years.
...we were the same size. I took that pic, hung it on my fridge and every time I went to grab a pint of Ben and Jerry's to ease my worries, I remembered why I shouldn't.
