Store Brands

Since a lot of us are shopping on tight budgets, I thought it would be interesting to hear your input on which off-brands are great and when it's worthwhile to buy the name brand. For example, we think that while Malt-o-Meal cereals aren't exact duplicates of the regular ones, they're still just as good. And my husband found that Target's triple blade disposable razors work just as well as Mach3, but I found Target's double blades are worthless for shaving my legs (cursed dark thick hair!) What are your experiences? I'm especially interested in any worthwhile substitutes for Diet Dr Pepper. ;-)

What can I do next?

I just tried the Target brand formula that compares to Enfamil Gentlease Lipil. My baby doesn't seem to notice a difference and it's about $11 a can cheaper! That's a pretty significant savings!

We also like the Costco brand baby wipes, coffee, and Raisin Bran type cereal. I'm sure there are others, but those are the first that come to mind.

Great post idea!

I found the huggies natural fit diapers were better than the store brand target diapers. Just seemed more sturdy and fit better. You're right about the cereal! ;)

As for food and Pharmacy items, I am a stickler for staying with my brands. I am very brand loyal.

I do frequent Costco and purchase the baby wipes, paper towels, napkins, and toilet tissue.

I love the baby wipes. I have a 13 yr old and I don't use them for diapering of course. They are great clean up tools. I keep a pack in my car, almost every room of the house and they are great for cleaning wooden blinds.

Braums has good deals with milk and ice cream. They are quality products.

You can get good deals on your favorite name brands if you check the weekly ads. We like the little 8oz bottles of Coke products. I catch them on sale and stock up. Same with Ozarka water.

I use the Member's Mark formula from Sam's. It's just like Similac and is less than $20 for 3 pounds (48 ozs). That's MUCH, MUCH less expensive than Similac and my son is healthy as a horse.

I really like the Parent's Choice wipes from Wal-Mart (if you like Huggies wipes). My girl friend swears by the target wipes (she likes Pampers wipes..I don't). Kroger wipes are really good too.

Wal-Mart bottle liners for drop-ins are just as good and half the price for twice as many.

FYI...Brahm's milk is cheaper than the off brand at Wal-Mart and it is guaranteed to have no growth hormone in it. Let's hear it for the name brand stuff!!!!

Wal-Mart brand of creamy shells & cheese is just as good as Velveeta we think.

I love Kroger brands, and they switched a lot of their kid stuff to Disney brand. My kids LOVE the PB&J Swirl, frozen foods and other Disney items.

My ABSOLUTE favorite is the H-E-B Grocery Store brand, but Dallas doesn't have HEB, except for Central Market. The closest one is in Waxahachie; so, if you're near there, visit them.

We also use the Wal-Mart brand pull ups, and they work just as fine as the main brands.
