Hey Moms,
I am a stay at home Mom that is new to the area. Me and the kids are going a little crazy not having face to face human contact with people we 'know'. We have gone to the park, museum, and aquarium a million times and have tried meeting people in our neighborhood but it seems everyone has things that keep them busy (school aged kids or work). I have also called 2 Mom 'type' groups and haven't gotten any calls back. It's starting to get a little lonely and depressing. Any ideas on what to do??? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Why don't you try a Gymboree or a MyGym type of place. And the library story hour. When you go to these make the extra effort to introduce yourself and if you click then ask if she would want to get the kids together. If the answer is no then at least you tried-don't feel bad. And find out when the moms groups meet and just show up. The same thing happened to me with MomsClub and I just ended up going to their mtg. It is really tough to meet people at parks and zoos...I never had luck there. Also-ask thewomen in your neighborhood of the older kids where they went when their kids were little. Once the kids hit preschool it will get easier. You can have their friends over for playdates and then connect with the moms hopefully.

Are there park districts in your area? We had Mommy and Me classes within the local park district and I met a ton of moms and started my own playgroup!

Is there a site where you can start your own mom group? I googled mom groups in my area and it came to a general mom group site where the mom group in my area didn't really do anything, but you could start your own. I guarantee there other moms like you in your area... I am relatively new here and would jump if someone started a mom group because we don't have any here.

UPDATE: I didn't notice where you were until now. Hmm, you may try wannamaker park when it gets warmer. I'm surprised the park hasn't worked there just because most of the time people are so open there. I lived off Ashley Phosphate most of my life. If I think of more specific places I'll update again... like I said I grew up there so am very familiar where everything that hasn't been built in the last 2 years is.

@Mallory: Thank you for reassuring it gets better when they go to preschool because sometimes I really worry because I go to college all the time and she doesn't have many friends outside of daycare (cousin's small in home daycare). Everyone, here at least, seems to have a clique mentality... like I have enough friends so go away
