i feel like im beating a dead horse but seriously apartment management is awsome, you can find some of my previous posts about it, it really is a great job, and you dont have to leave your kids, you dont have to worry about rent and i get paid for work i do around the building. i also watch a little girl 3 days a week for extra money (and the companionship she gives my little one) we are totaly comfortable without straining, its nice. good luck!

In my own experience,it's hard to find a job from home, even more so, one that doesn't require any sales. I think just about everything we do these days - requires some type of selling, whether it be selling ourselves at a job interview, selling our kids on the idea of taking a bath,etc. In fact, you probably are one of the worlds best sellers, cuz you know what works with kids, you actually have one of the biggest advantages, and that is psychology.
There are some products and co.'s out their that can provide us with the tools and training to make a good living from home, without us feeling like we are selling something. At least, this is the way I feel about SendOutCards, people just love the product and the idea so much, maybe it's because it's so original, or maybe just because of the way it makes people feel when they send a card to someone. Sendoutcards prints it, stuffs it, and mails it, in your handwriting in less than 60 seconds with the push of a button. A card is actually received in the mail from you. I totally hear ya!! I have 6 kids. 5 at home. I decided that I could not bear working, even part time, away from my kiddies. When I chose to work, it would never fail...I'd get a call from the school saying one of my kids was sick. I could not bear the pull between work duties and my child. So, I decided that I had to stay home and pinch pennies.

I hated the idea of it, but I finally decided to do daycare. I do not do preschool or anything like that. I help them learn, but not on a schedule or anything. I have a family that I watch that is just awesome with me and my schedule. I am a perfect fit for them too. It just all worked out great!

If you do want to work, I recommend being a substitute for your school district. I did that for a while too, until I had my, now 2 year old. You can usually choose to work that day or not. In Beaverton School District, they call as early as 5am. A machine does, so you don't have to feel guilty for declining that day's opportunity. I substituted as a Special Ed Assistant One on One. It was awesome! I got to work with a down syndrome middle schooler. You just go from class to class with them and help them and the teacher as needed. I also had to monitor hallways at lunchtime. Then, you get to go home with they go home. So, if you only wanted elementary hours, you could only take the elementary or high school jobs. Our middle schools let out later than the other two.

I'm confused first you say you are sole provider then you say your husband is provider and you're just looking for extra money? Just trying to figure it out because are you looking for something to pay enough to support 5 kids or just "some extra money"? Please clarify so potential employers might know how to help you.

Also- do you have any saleable skills? Can you type, are you crafty? What kind of work are you looking for? Just asking for "work you can do at home" is not really specific enough.

Jennifer, I think V. means that she is the sole Care provider for the children not the income provider. I agree with you that she may need to be more spacific about what type of work. However, V. I understand your position I find myslf in the same one. I am not sure what else is available for work at home but I sell books on E-bay and it's very easy to get started and to maintain. I don't get a lot of income from it but a little extra is nice. I go to book sales and garage sales to get books to sell on E-bay. Lots of times people will list on Craigslist.com under books or free stuff and you can get the books super cheap to resale online. Another way is to ask friends to give you their used books as well. Hi V., Wow! you have your hands full. So you may not like my advice to you. I too was in your place many years ago when my boys were little, too shy to sell and I didn't want to go back to work. I did babysit, granted I didn't have 5 kids. When my boys were 1 and 4 and babysat 3 adorable babies the same age. One was part time the other two were siblings and were full time and were picked up by 5:30 every night. I took them everywhere with me and parents did not mind at all.
