I have something a bit different to add. I don't know if anyone will come back and read this thread, but I own my own business - and it's not an MLM or sales-related position and I'm not trying to convince you to "get in on it."

I am a bookkeeper and financial coach. I love what I do. I do work at home and I do have a kid, though he's not small any more - he's nearly 10. What I wanted to share with you is that you can find ways to do wht you love and set your own hours. Most kinds of work, espeically "professional" work can be done as consulting - if you have the know how and drive to it. I don't know what you use to do, but I came out of helping run non-profits and before that I worked as a technical writer.

I decided that I wanted to make more money and have more time. So I contacted a networking/referral specialist in what I do and they helped me find clients.

What I want you to know is that you can do work that you want to do and make money at it - without selling your soul to an MLM or doing weird scams and saty at home piece work that is degrading. And I wish you a lot of luck finding what you really want.

I found my job on Craigslist. The hours are flexible (we have to work a minimum of 15 hours a week) and the pay is about $10 an hour. I know we're not hiring right now...but, I basically call people who have requested information about life insurance, screen them with 2 questions, and then transfer them to an agent. Try a career in Real Estate. Due to current technology it lends itself to working from home most of the time. Less childcare required.

Open a daycare. I don't know what county you live in but it is worth researching. Call you local Childcare Referral Center. You probably have most of what you need for a daycare already in place. Plus on your taxes, you can write-off almost everything except the air that you breath. It is an option, if you think that you can handle it.

It seems you either have to pay out money, or join some program or some sort, or frankly they just aren't what they say. The only legitimate work at home jobs that I have found still require you to work at an office first and then they can work you into working at home....like medical transcribing. All medical coding has to be done at the facility.

All the mail order stuff and the build things at home...are not legit...you end up paying for all the shipping costs to find that you don't get reimbursed.

I ended up doing daycare because of it and made some very strict rules about pay and such so I could depend on the income monthly. It is not for everyone, but it is worth a try if you want to stay home.

Your post was over a year ago and it seems that you have more then enough information on all the MLM's and door to door sales.

I started my own thing in January and it is going to start to get really busy and I am going to be needing a few eager people who are wanting to work from home a few hours each day. My opportunity is sales related but not the Mary Kay, Arbonne and others.

It allows me to call anywhere in the US for a flat rate each month. This opportunity pays $10.00.

I am a SAHM as well...and manage to get out of the house a few nights a week/month to "party for a living". :) lol I sell Pampered Chef products and I love it! While it's not working "from" home, I get to stay home with my son.
