I am pregnant with my first child. All of my friends from college do not have kids yet and so I really don't have anyone else to ask. The clerk at Babies R Us told me to go with Dr. Brown's bottles, but then I've heard others say go with the Playtex drop-ins, and then I see ads in magazines for all kinds of others. I'm overwhelmed and need some help. I really don't want to buy 10 different packages of bottles to try each one out so can you give me your advice on what worked for your child?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for your excellent suggestions. I think I've learned a lesson already. I knew that all kids were different and had different wants/needs, but I thought for sure there would be that one bottle out there that was the best and worked for everyone. Now I know that bottles are included in this lesson -- I'll just have to see what works best for my baby. Thanks again!

Have you spoken with a lactation consultant? I breast-fed primarily and had to supplement both my children(jaundiced). There are different bottles that help with "nipple confusion". If you were planning on bottle feeding solely or a bit of both the lactation consultant can help. I sent mine flowers!! Personally I love the Dr. Browns and mine never leaked. The avent bottles will leak if the top is not placed on with precision and when you are sleep deprived and the baby is crying, that never happens. Best of luck to you!

Playtex drop ins are good but I just used regular bottles with appropriate size for my little one's age when he was born. I thought the drop ins were a pain in the your know what. Good Luck!

C.,

Congrats on the soon-to-be arrival of the baby. I am a mother of 2 girls, one 3 1/2 years and the other 5 months old. I could not wait to buy Dr. Brown bottles, (they came out after my first). I registered and received tons of Dr. Brown bottles and I HATE them!!! Even when you fill below the suggested line it still leaks, and I mean everywhere. I ended up buying the package of 6 bottles of the Babies r us brand, (they are blue, purple and green.) I love these are they are cheap. With my first I used the drop ins and liked them as well. Avents are good as well. Hope this helps.

hi C., i really like the playtex ventaire bottles, especially the wide mouth version. i am a licensed day care provider & have had a chance to try out many different bottle types & i feel that this bottle really does keep your baby from swallowing excess air without the expense of the disposible "drop in" inserts that you would have to continually purchase with the "drop in" playtex model. the wide mouth is very handy because you will of course be preparing bottles with one hand while you will be holding your sweet new babe with the other ;) best regards, Z. d

Your baby will let you know which one they prefer. I bought all Avent and my kids never took them well. I tried all different ones and ended up using the Gerber ones which are very similar to Dr. Brown's. You can just get one of each kind and see what baby thinks.

I am currently breast feeding my daughter and only had to try one bottle with her. The Platex drop in's. I got a lot of the drop in liners at my baby showers so I didn't have to buy any for quite a while. When I did we just bought the Target brand and they worked just as well. Hope this helps

Hi C., I was in the same boat that you are in 7 months ago. What I did was bought the Doc Brown's and had a few others from my shower and that is the only bottle my baby will take, so just keep in mind that whatever advice you get from anyone your little one, will let you know which one he/she prefers. The Doc brown's are more expensive, but well worth the money in my mind. I was recommended that bottle from my brother, his baby had colic really bad and she seemed to do much better with that, just alittle fyi. Good luck

Congrats!! I tried Avent (they all leaked) and Dr. Browns with my son (plus, I breastfed for three months). Personally, I liked Dr. Browns the best however, it is a little bit of a pain to clean the contraption inside of it (helps eliminate gas). You may have to try a few, until you see what your baby prefers.
