Hello Kishi
I used the playtex vent-air and I love them. I tried Dr. Browns but I thought they were horrible. They leaked and one cracked right in half the second time I used it. They even gave my daughter more gas.
I am sending this through again because my first request there seemed to be some kind of error. If this is sent through twice, sorry.
My husband and I are having our first child in late March. We are having a tough time deciding on which bottles to use. We received various things for our baby shower, etc. but did not receive any bottles. We have looked around, but there are numerous kinds out there. Any suggestions?
I want to say thanks so much for all the great advice. My husband and I are planning on purchasing a few different bottles and wait and let her decide which works best for her. Thanks again so much!
Hello Kishi
I used the playtex vent-air and I love them. I tried Dr. Browns but I thought they were horrible. They leaked and one cracked right in half the second time I used it. They even gave my daughter more gas.
I love, love, love the bottles with the drop in liners. They are the only ones I would reccomend. Not only are they so much easier to clean, but my daughter had virtually no problem with gas. I wish I had used these with my first daughter!!
With my son we have used the playtex bottles with the drop ins. It is convenient in a bind and it is soothing for him to feel (and squeeze) the warm milk. The only problem for me now... is weaning him off. :o)
Hope this helps!
oh! also the playtex bottles with the air vents (ventair, i think) they work well too.
if you can- use silicone nipples (even for a paci). they don't deteriorate as quickly. they last through lots of sterilization.
I used Playtex Ventaire and hated them. My baby seemed to like them so I never switched but they are a huge pain in the butt to clean! There are too many little pieces! I wish I'd gone with the liner kind but I was trying to keep my expenses down! It sounds like there are some good refrences for you on here though...good luck!!
Hi congragulations. I have a 2yr old and I'm 30 weeks. With my daughter I used VentAire mostly but that is only because I breastfeed to. I'm gonna try Soothie this time because that is what kind of pacifier they give in the hospital. What you should do, buy a select few and let your baby decide. My daughter was very picky on her bottles. I would hate for you to buy bottles that your baby won't use. It really isn't the bottle that matter's, it is the nipple that counts. Good Luck
Hi Kishi:
The advice I got from more than one mom during my pregnancy was NOT to buy a complete bottle system right away. Instead, buy a couple different brands with different nipples and see which one baby likes best. We tried 3 different kinds before we landed on Playtex Ventaire with the natural shape nipples; stage 1 until about 3 months and stage 2 after. Also, if you plan to breastfeed and pump, the medela system is great - I've got 2 sets of medela bottles for pumping purposes - but we don't use the medela nipples, because baby doesn't like them. Congrats and good luck!
We have had success with the Dr. Brown's bottles. Our daughter spit up more with the other bottles. Good luck!
I used Avent and loved them. I suggest you only buy a few of what ever you choose untill you are sure your baby will take them, some baby's are very picky, mine were not, but I have friends who have baby's who will only take certain shapes. You can always get more after you give a few a try.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PENDING LITTLE ONE!! I used Avent bottles with BOTH of my children and love them!!! They also have Avent pacifiers, so I used them as well. GOOD LUCK!!
C.
I think I've tried them all between my four kids! I remember liking the type of bottle that was actually split in the middle (avia?) because my baby could hold on to it easier. I never tried the bottles with liners but that sounds quite convenient!
I can't say which I liked best because with my kids it was the nipple that mattered. We had to make sure we bought the preemie and newborn nipples (they don't always come like that w/the bottles) because the holes were too big and made my babies gulp the milk as it came out too fast. They are hard to find so hopefully you buy more than you think you'll need if you spot them.
Good luck!
Have you considered skipping bottles and breast feeding?
Personally, I love using the Avent bottles. They are compatable with the Avent breast pumps if you are going to breast feed at all, and they have a large enough opening at the top so that getting the formula into the bottle is fairly easy should you be going the formula route. You can also use switch the tops of the Avent cups with the bottles if you'd like, everything is interchangle.
Congratulations!! I was particularly fond of the Dr. Brown bottles myself, granite they are expensive but well worth it. Regardless of what bottle you do decide on though, just be sure not to tighten the nipples on too tight. Always make sure you see air bubbles going back into the bottle while they are sucking. I learned that the hard way with my first child. We always tightened it because the milk would leak out underneath the ring so we would be sure it was tight. Well, little did we know our baby would suffer for it. She ended up in the hospital because she would spit up I swear more than she would have even eaten in the last week and would only drink a couple ounces and sleep for hours! Her pediatrician just happened to see us feeding her and noticed she was sucking really hard and filled us in on tightening the lids too tight. After that she hardly ever spit up. Good luck with the birth of your new little miracle! There is nothing in the world to compare becoming a mother for the first time! Enjoy every minute, even the crying times because before you know it they will be talking and walking and you'll wonder where the time went!! Take care!!

Hi Kishi ~
After the birth of my son, we tried three different bottles, all recieved at my baby showers. We didn't like any of them, so we asked around, and bought some ourselves. Dr. Brown's bottles. They are wonderful! They have an air valve in the middle and kept my son from being gassy. (unlike the other three brands) I got them from Target, and I would definitely recommend those the most.

Mom to a 17 month old little boy.
As crazy as this will sound, let your baby decide. With my 1st child, he mainly took the Playtex bottles (the ones with the bag in them). But he would take other bottles every so often. During the holidays, when they come out with the "special" bottles that have Santa or bunnies or Halloween on them, he would take them. These bottles have totally different nipples to them. When our daughter was born, we figured she would be the same way. WRONG! She was very picky. She would only accept the Playtex bottles and then she would only accept a certain kind of Playtex nipple. And if something happened and she didn't get "her bottle", you paid for it because she would cry, scream and refuse to eat until you gave her the right bottle.
I would only buy maybe one or 2 of a couple different types and she which one your baby responds better to.
Good Luck!
I like the avent bottles. even though my daughter didn't take any bottles (she breastfeeds) i bought the magic cup sippy cup and a couple other handles and sippy cup inserts for them and they make great sippy cups. They don't leak at all and the handles are very good for her. So, I now can use the avent bottles and get more use out of them. Plus, if you nurse you can use them to store your milk in. These are very popular.
Good luck.
Kishi C,
My children did better on the Playtex bottles which reduce the amount of air they swallowed. This is especially true once they start to insist on holding the bottle themselves and it is not always upright, which was three months of age for my youngest. The bottles with bags are a bit pricier but reduces bottle washing and worry of how sterile it is. Good luck.
T.
Both of my kids were nursed for the first 6-8 months and when it came time to a bottle they were very picky. It is almost like you have to let them pick. They both only liked the Playtex nursing system with the drop in liners with the laytex rubber nipples. I agree with others, they are way easy to clean. You pay a little more because of the liners, but it is not really that much! I would have a couple different kinds on hand just in case.
Use the plastic bag with bottle they get less air for upset tummys.Plastic bottles let babies get air.Little more cost but worth it. R.
I really liked the Avent bottles and used them with all 3 of my kiddos.
I breastfed our daughter, but pumped to supplemnt when she was with grandma or daddy. And I chose Playtex Ventaire Naturalshape. I was told by a number of people that the Naturalshape nipples were best to keep from getting nipple confusion. My duaghter didn't seem to mind. And the Playtex Ventaire is designed for less air to get into the baby's system - less gas bubbles and discomfort for the little ones.
Just remember the main keys to picking a bottle.
1. like other mothers have said don't buy too many of one brand just incase you do have baby who's a bit picky.
2. price, just because advent is the HIGH quality blah blah blah, doesn't mean you should spend the money that you may not have.
3. anopther mother said pick a bottle thats easy to clean - yes this is true, but easy to clean doesn't necessarily mean disposable is the best because remember, if you may or may not have the money to spend now, but remember you have diapers to buy, formula if you don't breastfeed etc etc etc.. and there may be a time where you have to decide, formula or throw away drop ins. the playtex ventaire was nice because it came completely part on both ends for cleaning, and we never had a problem with leakage.
4. your baby won't be or shouldn't be feeding her/himself. so the size of the bottle is really only based the ounces in which they'll be needing to eat at different stages as infant.
the nipple stages for different bottles will vary, with the playtex ventaire naturalshape there was stage1 for 0-6 mos and stage 2 for 6+ mos. it just determines the the amount of fluid that runs through, slow/fast.
Just look them over, don't let the Baby'sRus sales people push you one way or another cause they tried to get all preachy with me, and pick which ever seems like it will work best for your baby's needs and what will work for your pocketbook as well. You can always change and try out others if little one doesn't "approve".
Goodluck and Congratulations!
hello,i'm a mother of 5,i'm 28 and have been married for 10yrs.well,anyways i found that i liked the playtex bottles with liners the best.i also liked the avent bottles also made by playtex.hope i could be of some help!!best wishes and congrats on the new baby!!
Kishi- I also had trouble finding just the right baby bottle for my son. At first i used advent because of their great breast milk storage system. But when my son turned gassy I ended up switching to Dr. Brown's bottles. You won't find them in your local drug store, try looking for them at Babys R Us or Toys R Us. They are dishwasher safe and really help reduce the gas bubbles that can hurt the tummy. I found hand washing them was easy (I don't have a dishwasher). They look like a crazy contraption but they work wonders on reducing the air swallowed during bottle feeding.
I wish you luck and health for the rest of your pregnancy, remember to take time to pamper yourself before your little one comes. This is an exciting time for you andyour husband. Wishing you an easy delivery, and joy and light with your new little one.
Peace,
G.
Dear Kishi,
I used Avent bottles that I borrowed from my friend. She and I both had good luck with them. They sell in 4 oz and 9 oz sizes. They are easy to clean and easy to hold. You can change the nipples (Size 0-3) as the baby gets older and can drink more formula. When baby is ready for sippie cup, you can replace the nipple with a sippie. Congratulations!
We like the Avent bottles! They seemed easiest to use, wash, least gastric upset, etc.
I loved the Playtex drop in bottles. They are really easy and convenient, along with easy to warm up w/ hot water b/c they don't have a bottom in them...and the perk is that they are pretty inexpensive. (You don't have to get the plastic playtex drop in replacements...walmart has the same ones for alot cheaper for alot more). GOOD LUCK!! Hope this helps.
There are a ton of bottles & nipples to choose from. If you want to do a combination of breast and bottle the best is the playtex nursers. If you are just bottle feeding then there's alot out there. Some babys are picky too. The easiest way is to look at the bottles and choose a couple that you like. Look for ease of cleaning, air bubbles, even decorations. Then once you have your baby, let him choose which one he likes the best. My oldest (2yr) would take any bottle/nipple but, my youngest (8mo) will only take the playtex nursers.
Kishi,
I loved the Dr Fields...I think this is the name... But honestly YOUR BABY is the one that will choose what works best. I would not puchase tons of anything until the baby is here and using the bottles. All babies are different and one nipple style may not work as well as another, or your baby may not care and use anything. So my advice would be to get one of several styles and see what the baby likes and has less gas with.
Blessings.

Hello Kishi,
I am a foster parent for an adoption agency and just brought my 37th newborn home in November. My best advice on bottles is wait and see!!! I have almost every brand here because I never know which one is going to work with which baby!!! Every baby has there own style and what one loves the next one won't. I would recommend buying one of the one you like the feel of in your hand and seeing if your baby latches on and doesn't take too much air. The hospital uses a very basic "regular old bottle" that has been around for years! Like Gerber or Evenflo...it is even what they use in the NICU. The only bottle I don't like is the Dr. Brown. Dealing with the inner parts is a PAIN! The Avent is great if you plan on using powder formula since it has a wide top. I personally like the Playtex Premium Nurser with drop in disposable liners. It is easy to hold and almost all of my babies latch on very naturally...almost as a breastfed baby latches. They seem to take less air and burp easier. It really comes down to personal taste and what you like...you really can't make a wrong choice as long as your baby takes it! Just don't buy a lot of anything until after she gets here!

I prefer the Playtex, with the liners. You can bleed out the extra air to reduce gas for your baby.
Dr. Browns are amazing!!! my little guy NEVER spit up and I contribute that to these amazing bottles. Good luck to you, enjoy your baby!
For my daughter we used the Playtex Nursers and the VentAire and she liked them both just fine. I agree with the others, maybe get one of a couple different kinds and see which one your baby likes best. I liked the VentAire for going out, they were much more convenient than dealing with the liners.
Kishi,
Congratulations on your pregnancy! For all three of my kids, my husband and I used playtex bottles with drop-ins. The drop-ins, which are plastic liners that simply fit down into the open-ended bottle, make cleaning the bottle a cinch, and they are really good for the baby, because as the baby sucks the liner shrinks, which really cuts down on the amount of air the baby gets in his/her belly. Did I mention that this makes the bottle easier to clean, too? The liners are disposable, too, so that makes clean-up even easier, especially for those times that you lose a bottle that still has formula in it, and find it much later-ask any parent, it happens!
Anyway, good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, and I hope this helps. P.
First let me say congratulations and best of luck to you. Second, and this is all I'll say on the subject - breastfeeding is a wonderful experience if you're comfortable with it. Bottles...I would recommend getting a few starter packs for a couple different kinds - look specifically at the shape of the nipple - some babies are picky and have a hard time latching onto certain bottles. If you plan to breast and bottle feed look for something that mimics the breast Avent is good and my daughter liked the Playtex ones with the wide nipple (I can't remember the name)It's also good to get ones that work directly with your breast pump if you'll be using one although this isn't necessary. Think about what's more convenient for you - do you want to wash and sterilize a bunch of little parts (i.e. Dr. Brown's) or do you prefer to just throw the bag away (i.e. playtex and other disposable bag bottles) and just worry about the nipple. There's lots to consider. The only ones I've used personally are the Avent, which sometimes leak because of the venting mechanism in the nipple, but otherwise loved, and the Playtex with Drop-In liners (store brand liners work fine). I take care of my niece and they used the Dr. Brown's which I hated (several extra little parts that didn't seem to do anything), these also leaked. I guess my advice is try a few and through trial and error find out which ones you and baby like the best! Sorry if this was rambling and confusing :-)
Hi congrats! I have two children and with the first she had a lot of problems with spitting up and couldn't digest the similac. But my sisters second baby was like that and she switched to using Dr. Brown bottles and she stopped spitting up, it reduced the gas and bubbles that get through. So now with my second I am using Dr. Brown bottles and he is doing so well with similac. He isn't spitting up as much. He still has gas, but not the kind that rumbles in the belly and makes him upset. he just passes gas regularly which is fine kinda funny. But good luck! I know they are more expensive then regular bottle but they are they best. you can google them and read about the research.
Dr. Browns bottles are an honest to God miracle. They truly keep the gas to a mininum. I think they sell them at Target in a 3-pack for like $14. Congrats and good luck!
I used AVENT Naturally with my first one, and WILL NOT recommend them to anyone, after using them for a couple of months they started leaking! I am going to use the Playtex with the drop-in liners for my second that is due in June.
I used playtex nursers with my son. They are the bottles with the individual plastic bags that go in them. They are so easy to clean and save a lot of time with soaking and washing. They're also great if you're pumping milk to freeze. I loved them
Hope this helps.
Hi,
We have been using the Dr. Brown bottles and are very happy with them. My husband and I were told by many people that they used that name brand and seemed to like them.
I hate to start with this, but you might get a few comments from breastfeeding/vs/bottle groups.
I personally bottle fed- but I had no choice in the matter.
The best bottles are honestly the ones that you'll have the easiest time cleaning.
However, from the infant's standpoint, you'll want bottles as closely shaped like the boobie as you can get in case you plan to both breast and bottle feed.
I've heard good things about the "second nature" bottles
http://about.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=1...
I mostly used the Standard gerber-type bottles with the bent necks. It's not so much the bottle you have to worry about, it's the nipple. If you can find a bottle that uses the same type of nipple throughout their growth it's less hassle than having to start with one type and work your way through others.
HI, congratulations on being pregnant with your first child. Thats awesome and will be quite the experience for you. As far as the bottles go I had a lot of problems with my children having gas so I always used the Playtex Ventair but they are pricey. But like I said my kids had a lot of gas problems so I had been through a lot of different types of bottles and these Ventair seem to work awesome. You could even pick up some on Ebay for cheaper if you need to save money. Hope this helps you out.
I always used playtex airvent with both of my kids and they always seemed to work for fussiness and gasiness
Hi Kishi.
I used Avent bottles with my daughter and never had to worry about her having gas problems (I have an unopened bottle of Mylicon drops). They have the different stage nipples that you can buy and one stage is for those who like to put a little cereal in the bottle (which I did).
My sister used Dr. Brown's which is another brand that helps cut down on the gas, but you have to clean these tubes that attach to the nipples, so they were a little more time consuming.
I really liked the Avent, and actually my daughter is just getting out of them, so if you'd like some bottles and a warmer, just let me know and I can make arrangements to get them to you.
One thing I will strongly urge you to do though when it comes to formula. Do not put the powder in the bottle and then shake it. Use a spoon and stir it. Shaking just adds more air which in turn causes gas. I see people shaking the bottles all the time, and then they wonder why their little ones are gassy.
Congratulations!
M.
Hi Kishi,
Congratulations in advance.
I mostly breastfed my boys, but did use bottles a few times. I went with the Advent bottles since that is what my lactation consultant suggested. You can get them with different size holes in the nipple to control the flow of the milk/formula. They worked really well for us and then we move our boys up to the Advent cups for toddlers.
Good luck.
My daughter was a preemie and was on breastmilk from the day after she was born until about 3 months. I then used the Gerber bottles for her, because the nipples were smaller and easier for her to get her mouth on. (I had finished nursing and didn't need to worry about nipple confusion.) I have also used the Dr Browns Bottle and loved it!! Now, since she's crawling and carrying the bottle EVERYWHERE, I use just the plain Evenflo bottles.(They are cheaper and just more practical with her carrying them and dropping them...if she does manage to damage it, its not a 7 dollar bottle!) I also have to agree not to buy too many of one kind because your little one may prefer one over the other. Congratulations on your Angel and Good Luck!!!
Advent seemed to be the best ones we tried when our kids were young. I had bought many types but the advent brand seemed best.
I have been trying to find and will also post a new ad baby bottles shaped like 7up and pepsi. I had bought them many years ago and they were super as it would allow the kid around age 8 months or so to hold the bottle in 1 hand and they thought they were king to be able to feed themselves.
I wanted to buy some for my neice but can not find them
Its strange the millions of people out there and no one seems to see that the bottles are to big and fat around for a kid who should be able to feed themself can't. Ant these slim 7up and pepsi bottles with nipples were the ticket, but I can't find them anywhere and originally got them from Walmart.
R.
I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but the baby is pretty much going to dictate which bottles you use. At my baby shower everybody got me Avent bottles and they are wonderful. I got lucky with a very easy going child. I have heard of other babies though where parents have had to try several different types. I do highly recommend them because they have nice stages.
Kishi,
Congratulations on your new addition!! I have three little boys ages 4, 2 and 5 months. I, as well as some of my friends, really like Avent's bottles. My cousin, who has triplets, uses Dr. Brown's bottles, but they are pricey. I suggest finding bottles with different nipple flows.
I hope this helps!! Good luck to you and your husband.
Sincerely,
J.
Hello Congrats on baby.. I too would suggest the playtex nursers with the drop in's.. Great bottles and easy on cleaning.. Save some money on the liners though.. By walmart brand of liners instead of playtex you get more and they are cheaper.. Same product...
Good Luck with the little one!
I have an 11 month old and have used the Playtex nurser, that uses the drop-ins, since birth I LOVE them. Our baby never spit up, unless he ate too much, while using these bottles, and he wasn't very gassy either. The whole collapsable bag thing is what I think does the trick. PLUS you don't have to sterilize the bottles everytime it's bottle cleaning time, because you're using a sterile drop in everytime. Hope this helps in your decision.
Hi Kishi,
Bottles are a little tricky. Sometimes babies will only drink from a certain nipple which leaves you trying lots of different bottles until you find the right one. Unfortunately this can get a little expensive. I nursed my son until he was 4 months old and then I switched to the bottle. I had lots of luck with the Playtex Vent Air. I also used the Avent, but I had trouble with it leaking so I continued on with the Vent Air. I would definitely recommend any of the bottles that have the silicone nipple. They seem to last a lot longer than others. Hope things go well.
I am a stay-at-home mom with a son who is 18 months old.
C.
I chose the avent bottle system. It works with the pump, and they have a bottle warmer and sterlizer to fit the bottles. Also this system allows you to put sippy cup type tops on them when you're ready. I have been more then happy with them.
Congratulations on your soon to be baby! We've used the playtex bottles with liners and Avent. I do not recommend the playtex bottles. The liners become expensive and are a hassle after a while. We've been very happy with the Avent bottles.
Hi Kishi,
Congratulations! I know this is an exciting time for you & your husband. I just had my second child 1 year ago at the wonderful age of "41". My 1st just turned "9"! The first thing I suggest is try breast feeding! Your new baby will be a lot healthier throughout its life by using what God has already blessed you with. Try to, if you can nurse your baby for at least 6mos to 1yr. It is convenient, cheap, always warm & ready to go, and the best part is you are giving your new baby antibodies that will build a strong immune system. If for some reason you can not breast feed, but PLEASE try this first, you won't be sorry in the long run. Heather has some good suggestions about bottles. If you choose to use formula, Walmart carries Parent's Choice Organic Formula. My daughter took to it after 10 mos of nursing. If you would like more information about Breast feeding, I can get it from my friend who is a Midwife. She has a lot of great things she uses to have a wonderful birth. Just email me with any further questions and I will get answers for you.
We used the Dr. Brown's bottles and loved them. They have a few parts to put together but helps reduce the bubbles and gas that babies get. I'm due in April and will be using these again.
With our first one, we thought the Avents would be best, however, we found our little guy, loved the Air Vents. In addition, we found them a breeze to clean whether it be in the sink or in the dish washer because they come totally apart. We plan on using the Air Vents with the twins in May. Plus, because of the holes in the bottom, he never swallowed air, unless the bottle was completely empty.
Only down fall, when you put the little disks back in, you have to make sure they are totally in or it will start dripping.
Hope it helps.
I use Air Vent with both of my children. It keeps the formula from getting to many air bubbles in the formula. It's really easy to use and great for infants. But you will want to start out on Stage 1 bottles for babies.
I would highly recommend the following bottle:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=244956...
I nursed my daughter and she would not take a bottle, which made it hard for me to get out of the house and it made it miserable for my husband when I did get out of the house. She wouldn't even use the advent bottles that my son loved. Once I found this bottle for her my husband was able to feed her and subsequently I was able to ween her.
good luck,
Mel
Hello Kishi,
I used Avent bottles. I had great success with these and the nipples are to formed more like a mother's so it easier for the baby to use and they are also to prevent colic.
Hope this helps!
Katrina
I breast and bottle fed...I loved Playtex with the drop ins...the nipples to choose from without changing bottles (which others are also starting to do). I found them very easy to clean because the drop ins could be thrown away (or washed for a few uses!) You can buy off brand drop ins and they will still fit prefectly. I think the nipple selection was wonderful, it gave my son the option (and since he was use to breast feeding he was picky about his bottle!)
I had my child May of 2006. She is 8 months old and only takes the soothie bottle. I had a hard time getting her to latch on to other nipples. Good luck!
Though both can be expensive. I liked both Playtex Nursers, however I do not recommend the drop-ins.. When they are a little older and they throw them harder, they will fall out of place.....
And, I love Avent..... They have many different size holes on the nipples, including ones should you need to add cereal to the formula...... It's great!!!!
If it makes you feel better, my husband and I spent 45 minutes looking at bottles when we were doing our baby registry last year. Babies R Us is like a black hole - we spent hours there!
Anyway, we went with the Playtex Ventaire. You can also find them in the grocery store. The holes in the discs are supposed to help with reducing bubbles in babies stomachs. However, the discs do start to leak after a while (we've had them for a year now). Also I would recommend buying a bunch so you don't have to wash them as often. That saved us a lot of time once we thought to do it.
Congratulations to you and your hubby! You are about to experience the most incredible miracle.
Here is my past experience with bottles. With our son (now 5 years old) I used Playtex nursers with disposable liners. He did well on them, I got tired of having to buy the liners so I tried several of the other bottles on the market. He hated them all so we went back to platex nursers.
In 2006 we had twin girls and I new I needed a $$ practical way of feeding them. We invested in the Avent bottles and have been SO happy with them!! The girls do great on the bottles, they are able to keep the formula down and the bottles are easily cleaned by hand or in the dishwasher.
I hope that helps. Also, I don't know when your are due but there is a great yard sale coming up. I belong to the Columbus Mothers of Twins Club and they have a sale 2x's a year. In the Fall and Spring. The Spring sale is Saturday March 17th from 9am to noon. You can check out the website for additional info. www.cmotc.org
You can find a ton of deals...as with any yard sale it can be a treasure hunt.
Enjoy your little bundle!!

Congratulations, Mom-to-be! We used simple Gerber bottles with Nuk nipples for both of our girls and didn't have any problems at all. I have heard, though, that some babies are picky about what they'll use ... so I would suggest not buying too many of any one kind until you see what works.
Good luck!
I have 4 kids, and with the las 3 we used a combination of Avent and Dr. Brown's bottles. The Avent were very easy to clean because they are wide, they did not seem to cause air to get in to the baby's belly. They were also very easy for them to hold when they started to hold their own bottle. I used the Dr. Brown's with the last 2 because they both had a problem with spitting up. The Dr. Brown's bottles are ugly, but work great for babies who spit up. They have several parts, but I do not mind washing the bottles, has to be done.
I tried the ones with the disposable liners, and really did not like them.
Hi Kishi,
I had the same question when I had my first. I settled on the playtex nursers, the ones with the liners. It seems to me that it seems like the only effecient way to keep the air out. All the other bottles without the collapsable liners that claim to keep the air out just don't seem like they would work. I have had great success with the playtex nursers. The only downfall is that they are a constant expense with having to buy the liners. But you can get the store brand and it is cheaper. They have a liner called 'Drop-Ins' and they are pre-formed so you don't have to fight with putting in the liners over the edge of the bottle. They are a bit more expensive but worth every penny. I hope I have helped. congrats to you on your pregnancy.
We first started using Avent bottles and our son was starting to become colicky. From the advice of my sister in law we started using Dr Brown bottles. WE LOVED THEM! Yes they are a little more expensive, but it was well worth the extra money. Within 24 hours of switching to those bottles, our son was perfectly fine. I have heard from other mom's who loved them as well!
Good Luck!
I liked the Playtex Nursers with the drop in liners. I nursed my daughter for 14 months and pumped. I stored my milk in the milk storage freezer bags and would use the bottles for while I was at work & away. I liked them alot, and they were super easy to clean up. All you have to clean is the nipple! I tried many different kinds but that nipple was the only one my daughter would take.
Good luck!
Kishi,
I remember being a first time mom (now a mom of 3 girls) and feel scared and wanting to use all the right things for my baby. It is a personal choice and actually your babies choice. I know people who have tried one bottle and the baby did not like it and they ended up taking back all the bottles they origionally got for new ones. I personally used the playtex disposables. Simply because we lived out of state and were always on the road. Disposables are great because if you are out you can throw away the liner and simply put in a new one with a new lid. However, I know people who like the advent bottles because they like to put them in the dishwasher and the convert into sippy cups later on. Again, my girls wanted nothing to do the the advent sippy cups. Go with what you want to try or what you feel most comfortable with. You will be a great mom and you will make the right choice for you and your baby. Don't let other people make you feel bad about the products you use. All things don't work for all kids.

Hi Kishi C:
I am a Mother of 5 and to my surprise each of my kids has had to have a different kind of bottle and/or nipple. My oldest, who is 9, used those L shaped bottles supposed to keep the air out. The rest used playtex. Having so many kids, it was just easier to get a new insert than sterilize each bottle.
I really wanted to use the Advent series with my sons (age 1 & 2) because they convert to sippy cups with a nipple or sipper...but they hated the fatter bottle design - go figure.
Here's my suggestion for new Moms...Keep the bottles you got at the shower and buy one of each kind of bottle out there. If you are formula feeding or supplementing use different bottle for a little while. After a few weeks, you will defintily notice your baby's preferencee to a certain bottle. Then go out and buy about 8 more of those bottles.
Same thing with the nipples. Most nipples release the fluid too fast causing your baby to gulp....but some babies, like my first two, can't seem to get it fast enough. It just really depends on each kid. It's your first lesson in Mommy judgement:) Good luck!
Every baby is different, so you really just kindof wing it. I used Avent Natural and it worked great. Used them for months, then switched to Gerber. Just one word of caution, most expensive doesn't mean the best.
Hey there, congrats! hope your pregnancy and birth go smoothly and are enjoyable! We tried Playtex vent-air with both our babies and they didn't work very well, and unless you get a lot, you have to keep washing them. We ended up using the bottles with the disposable liners. They are great! no gas, dishwasher safe, and the liners are like 4 dollars for 200. Walmart has the genaric products that are less expensive. You can also get a variety of nipples for them, we used the nature-form ones (or something like that) I think it is best to get nipples that look and act as much like the real thing as possible, especially if you are planning to breast-feed. But as others have said, don't buy a lot of one thing untill you know if they work for your baby. Take care!

Hi Kishi
I have used many different types of bottles as I have been fostering for 8 years and I have found that I like Playtex Nursers the best.l They take a bit more work in preparing them but the babies seem to be happier and healthier. I think they are cleaner. I always ran them through the dishwasher but the bottle never really gets dirty since you use a bag in them. Hope this helps.
