I am just finninshing up my 13 month old from breastfeeding by pumping and giving a bottle. We used Dr. Brown's bottles the entire time and no problems. We love them.
I am getting ready to deliver & have recieved everyones great advise on which pump to get. Now I would like to know what's the best bottle & nipple to use when you are breastfeeding & pumping? I would like to make the transition easy from breast to bottle so my family can feed him as well.
Thanks Ladies!

The Lactation Consultant I saw when I delivered my first recommended the Avent bottles... i've used them for both kids and they worked well!
I have found that my baby can switch VERY easily between the Avent bottles and the breast.
I have to agree with alomost everyone who has responded. I used Avent for my son who I breast fed for 11 mts. They are simple and easy and they where wonderful for him. I have worked in daycare for 7 yrs and seen a lot of different types of bottles and how the children respond to them. So that is why I chose Avent because I saw the children that did breast feed respond to them well and a lot less colic. Good Luck!
I used Avent and Dr. Brown's bottles. I nursed almost exclusively with my first and pumped so my hubby could bottle feed a couple of times a day. With my second I pumped more than I nursed because she took an hour to nurse both sides and I did not have an hour to spare every 3 hours with a 1 1/2 YO running around wanting attention too. I had a manual Avent pump, and a playtex pump. The Avent bottles fit on the Avent pump, and the Dr. Brown's fit on the playtex electric. It is so much easier to pump into a bottle.
I am also a working mom and have breastfed while working for the last 4 months. We used the Avent bottles. The wide surface of the bottle seemed to enable her to latch in way that was similar to the breast. We tried some others and that was best. Honestly, though, she doesn't like to take bottles unless she is desperate...
I only needed to pump occasionally so I didn't want to spend the money on an electric pump. I got the avent manual pump and it worked so well (no pain, and I could pump 3-4 ounces in 5-10 min), he did gag on the avent bottles, so I tried the playtex nursers and he took to them well.
Hello A.!
I breastfeed now, and my baby has only had a few bottles, so of course I want to give her something that is similar to the breast too. I started out with Avent, which are too hard, and they choked her. Then I switched to the playtex dropins. They have a really soft and short nipple. When we do give her a bottle she takes it well. Also, make sure to always stick with the level 1 nipple, even as your baby grows. The flow is not very fast (just like the breast). Good luck!
I use the Avent bottle and LOVE them. I am still breastfeeding my youngest (11 months and praying that he will wean himslef soon!) and I have found that the Avent bottles work great and are easy. The Dr. Brown's bottles were a pain in the neck - with the second child I needed a bottle that worked well, was easy to put together one handed and easy to clean! Avent is fabulous!
We had success with the breastflow bottle. The advice I followed was to introduce the bottle between 5 and 7 weeks. That way your little guy gets the best chance at success breast feeding in those crucial first weeks but is still young enough to adjust to the bottle as well.
Both of my kiddos are drop ins users, and with no problems at all. My youngest has acid reflux so he naturally has gas, so I love it that the drops ins are virtually air free!
Be sure to wait until breastfeeding is well established before introducing a bottle or any other artificial nipple (generally 4-6 weeks).
Many people are successful with avent and the breastflow bottle. My daughter was a reverse cycler (she would not eat at daycare and catch up at home), so she never really took a bottle. She would take 2-5oz total at dcp, and just eat a lot when she was with me. We used the basic gerber bottle with her, because that is all she would take.
I used avent and I nursed/pumped for 12 months with the first and 15 months with the second. The boys used Avent bottles while I was at work and mommy at night and in the morning!
I used Avent bottles with my daugther when I would pump and use a bottle and she didn't have any problems with those. The nipples are interchangeable so that you can use faster and slower flow ones as they get older. They also have sippy tops for later when they start to learn to drink from a cup.
Best of luck!
Both of my girls were breastfed and switched over easily to the Avent bottles. Congratulations!
I breastfed for 9 mos and for 6 mos of that, he also used a bottle when family or friends watched him. The Playtex Nurser system was awesome! I never had a problem with him no longer wanting my breast after using the bottle. The drop in containers help reduce gas. And the nipples are a wonderful shape. I kept him on a slow flow nipple until I completely stopped breastfeeding all together(so that he wouldnt become greedy and prefer the bottle over my breast)...then I switched to fast flow.
Good luck and congrats!
I had my first child in Sept. and I am breast and bottle feeding him. I really like Avent bottles because they don't give my son any gas and they are easy to clean. Another good one if your son gets gassy is Dr. Browns. my sister has a 6 week old and he was getting very gassy so she switched to Dr. Brown's and he has gotten much better. Congratulations on the upcoming birth
I used Platex Natural-Shape VentAir bottles with all my kids and have not had problems with transition from breast to bottle or with gassy babies. :) Just be sure the bottom of the bottle is on tightly, or you will loose the precious milk inside the bottle. Also, be careful when you purchase them and make sure you have all the parts that should be in there before you walk out of the store.

We also use Avent bottles for those occasions when we give DS a bottle.
I like that they are easy to use and clean and didn't seem to give DS any gas. We tried Dr. Brown's, but I didn't like having 6 pieces to clean every time we had to bottle feed him. I can't imagine how labor-intensive it would be if he were exclusively bottle-fed!
