The only thing that works for my son is to fold the sock down so the elastic is around the ankle instead of around the leg.
My 10 mo old has rather large feet and is already in size 5 shoes. We have been searching different styles of socks that won't leave these deep gouge marks on his little calves. He's not all that fat, just normal baby cushioning, but every style we find just digs in so bad, I'm worried it's cutting off circulation! Really- no exaggeration. When he was littler I had to search, but could sometimes find the socks that don't have elastic around the top. He hasn't worn socks all summer, and now that it's getting cooler, I'm having trouble finding anything similar in the larger size (4T-5T) seems to fit his foot, but not his leg.
My hubby thinks that maybe all socks are made to be tight like that now so they don't fall off the kids' feet.
Any suggestions?

Baby Gap triple roll socks are my favorite. I think we have had 200 pairs over the last four years with my kids. They last forever and never squeezed my kids legs.... and they were super chubby babies! Try a size 2-3T for a size 5 foot. I think they would be great for you, and they're pretty cheap- 5 for $10 I think.
We've had good success with ankle socks from Children's Place for both our girl and boy. And Children's Place frequently has sales on socks that make the socks inexpensive to buy.
Try Hanes. They have toddler sizes and very little elastic. They even have ankle socks.
My son had "those" legs! I always liked Children's Place socks for him.
Triple roll Baby Gap and Old Navy worked for us .... we also put the socks over the pants or romper. Another idea is to get the foot only socks and wear those. Good luck!
Does he have to have the tube sock? Or can he go w/ the the lower ankle sock. IF you have to, go to a girl's style sock--they come in in the ankle socks and who's going to know the difference if they're boys or girls?
I had the same trouble with my daughter. I bought larger socks and kept shoes on her - Robeez or a similar shoe that's more like a slipper.
i know what you mean, i bought below the ankle socks (if they have a name, i'm not sure what they're called) i bought them at target. they are the best.
Would it help to fold the top of the sock over so it's not directly on the skin?
our daughter is huge for her age. we buy size 24 months for her socks. even then we have to be careful. i find that the socks that fold over on top tend to dig less. also buying a couple of sizes too big might do the trick. the chrildens place had socks for 1.00 in this style also on a end asile of target in the baby section there were the same style for .50 cents.
