SNORING...diet Issue? Sleepy All the Time?

I noticed a post from another mother yesterday regarding snoring. Well my Hubby snores like a freight train and I often sleep on the couch just to get a good nights rest. Someone said it had something to do with diet. And Yes he is sleepy ALL THE TIME, his feet hurt, his back hurts. But he goes to bed at a decent hour. He does work a lot so I attributed the sleepiness to his work habits, I had no idea it might all be linked to snoring. Any advice will help.

What can I do next?

Snoring is dangerous as it cuts out oxygen to the body. Those little tabs they put across the nose work. At least my friends use them.

My step father had sleep apnea and has a breathing machine now. He would stop breathing at night and his body would wake him out of the deep sleep so he would start breathing again. This would be a reason why though he is going to sleep at a decent hour he is still tired. He may not be getting deep REM sleep.

Does he have obstructive sleep apnea? I have several friends plus my sister and her husband have it and are on CPAP machines for breathing. My pastor also uses this. I would have this checked. He may need what is called a CPAP machine.

I am a medical transcriptionist and see this all the time... I am absolutely, by no means, a doctor, but this can be very very dangerous if not checked.

Good Luck and please keep us posted.

I train someone with sleep apnea, and she is tired all the time. I did notice however that as she lost weight, her sleeping and ease of breathing during sleep has gotten much better. definately have him get a sleeping test, a lot of times when people have sleep apnea they feel like they are just walking around in a haze.....

My husband used to snore and his doctor ordered a sleep study. He had sleep apnea. (This is fairly common condition but can be dangerous). He now has a sleep machine and no more snoring and no more sleep apnea. He is no longer tired because he is getting the appropriate amount of oxygen during sleep. He feels so much better. It is life changing.

I would recommend he see and ENT. We are going through this with my 2YO, myself and my Dad. Snoring can become a very dangerous thing in life. My pedi told me that with my little boy, it will lead to lots of sleeplessness and possibly behavioral issue in the next couple of years. She said that she has seen little kids who snore and are targeted as ADD in school because of their behavior. She also said that she has around 20-30 patients that have had snoring problems and had their adenoids removed and no longer have had problems with behavior. Then in adults, it will cause other daily problems like you have mentioned. My Dad has been seeing his family doc, and 2 specialists regarding his snoring. He is fixing to have his adenoids removed and I am considering it as well. My pedi told me that she has the same problem and will be having surgery also. She shared a story with me about her father-in-law who passed away this past year and the cause of death was snoring. She said that he would get so bad and stop breathing or choke. And that is how he passed away one night. Hope this does not scare you, but I have been doing research and asking a lot of questions about this issue.

Sounds like it could be sleep apnea (same for the some of the other mamma's hubbys who posted).

This can be quite dangerous and life-altering if not handled correctly, I would consult a physician and do a sleep study immediately.

If your husband snores that loudly and is sleepy even after a good night's rest, have him tested for sleep apnea. My husband snored for years, and sometimes the snoring would stop for 30-45 seconds. We found out after a sleep study (ask your doctor and is covered by most insurance) that he had sleep apnea and the reason he stopped snoring was because he stopped breathing! Sometimes up to several hundred times per night. He was prescribed a CPAP machine that helps to keep his airway open, and he snores very little if even at all now, not to mention he wakes up after 7 or 8 hours of sleep well rested and refreshed. This condition if left untreated will not only keep you both awake, it can be deadly since the sufferer stops breathing periodically throughout the night. Call your doctor today and ask for an appointment to discuss the issue of a sleep study. It could save his life.

My husband too!! I'm so glad I read this. I'm calling him now so we can make sure our insurance covers this.
Sometimes I wake him up because he's not breathing for so long. It's really scary.

Drs, sleep study, sleep clinic, yes, yes, yes - check into all of this! My husband had similar issues and after 30 years of sleep problems learned that he had sleep apnea. It's a condition that interupts sleep. Even though he never realized his sleep was being interupted, he quit breathing MANY, MANY seconds out of every minute. He just never got a real, rested night of sleep. Snoring and being tired all of the time are the biggest signs of a problem. After the sleep clinic, he got a breathing mask which made a world of difference immediately. Seeing as how he did not want to wear this mask nightly for the rest of his life, he jumped right in and had his tonsils and adnoids removed. It has made a world of difference!! For both of us!!

Honestly, talk to your family physician about it. Our doc recommended a sleep study for my husband. We haven't done it yet because of something about the way our insurance covers it (hoping to get it figured out this summer). But the snoring could be causing sleep apnea, which means he's literally not getting enough oxygen at night, which means he never gets "real" rest, thus he's tired all day. There are other things linked with this type of snoring too (not necessarily cause/effect, but just linked) like high blood pressure. Bring it up to your doctor and see what he/she says about it.

For sure get a sleep study. Since my hubby has been working at a sleep clinic I have learned so much about how we sleep and why certain cyles are important. The big reason your hubby is so tired is that not only is he never getting the restorative REM sleep that he needs, but I would bet that every minute or so, he stops breathing for even a few seconds, and that is causing major stress to his body!! It cant keep up at this pace, and can eventually lead to heart problems etc, so please, try to convinve him to ask his doctor, it is very important!! Let me know if you have any other questions, I am sure that I can get the answers! ~A.~

I would take him to a sleep clinic as he may have sleep apnea 'cause it sounds like he isn't getting enough REM sleep.
