My husband snores something terrible. Does anyone have any suggestions that we can try? I am so tired and I need my sleep. We have one of the Tempurpedic pillows in hopes that that would help. It is helping him with his neck pain but it is making him sleep sounder which means he snores louder.
Have him talk to his doc about it. I snored massively (really - when I was living in a college dorm, my husband was able to hear me through the door) but I had sleep apnea and had my tonsils and adenoids removed. I sleep so much better!
Also, if he has any sinus problems, have him blow his nose before he goes to bed. It may not clear up the problem entirely, but it will help him breathe easier (and possibly snore a bit less loudly).

Don't they make those things that you can just somehow attach to the nose (the breathe right strips)?? I know they make things to help the underlying problem of the snoring. If nothing works, send him to another part of the house far away from where you're sleeping (or TRYING to sleep). GOOD LUCK

My husband snored too and stopped breathing while he was asleep. We mentioned it to his doctor and he had my husband do sleeep test. He had sleep apnea and was given a C-PAP machine to sleep with. He stopped snoring and better yet he breathes all night now. See the doctor , he may know what will work best.

My husband also snored and we tried breath rights and they helped, however he started taking allergy medicine everyday and the first night he didnt snore at all! I actually woke up several times and made sure he was breathing. He finally had a decent night sleep too! He now takes allergy medicine every day and rarely snores anymore.

Have you tried those breath right strips? Those work for my mother-in-law. I've never personally used them but she swears by them!

If you find a cure, pass it on! My husband snores like a freight train! I swear sometimes, I think he's going to knock the walls down it's so loud! If my husband lays on his side, he will normally stop snoring. Of course, then he rolls right back onto his back! I heard a study that people that sleep with snorers lose, on average, an hour of sleep a night! No wonder we're so tired!

Try the breath right strips that are in many pharmacies. Wal mart, K mart, or places like that. He may also want to go to the doctors. That is a sign of sleep apnea. I have worked with patients with this. My boyfriend also has a friend who has it and is on a machine that helps considerably.

Have you tried Breath Right Strips? They don't always do the trick if the snoring is the cause of sleep apnea but if it's due to narrow nasal passages, they may help. If your husband can stand wearing them he'll get a better night's sleep and so will you! Hope it helps! If not, he should really go to a sleep lab for a sleep study. Check your insurance and see if it's covered.

Have him get a sleep study, he may have apnea. My husband was a horrible snorer! He could not mangange to keep the CPAP mask on, so he finally had surgery (not fun, but necessary) and he no longer snores! Both of us finally sleep well (after 20 years, I NEEDED it as much as he did!)

I didn't even know how bad my husband's snoring was until we were camping with some friends. Check out "sleep apnea" on the web. This may or may not be what you are dealing with. Meanwhile, I'll pray that you find some answers.

Snoring is the #1 sign of sleep apnea. I actually work w/ sleep doctors & can tell you everything there is to know pretty much lol. Sleep apnea can be dangerous & can also lead to other health issues... especially the older he gets. You should get a sleep study done on him. It should be covered by your insurance & most places don't even require a referral. At least do a consultation... it can't hurt to at least talk to the Dr. But, I suggest taking it seriously. Sleep apnea causes people to stop breathing in their sleep, and like I said... only gets worse as you age. And, I bet he's tired all the time too? If so, it's because you're body is not getting the rest it needs whenever you are snoring. So, get him checked out!! Good luck!

If your husband is as stubborn as mine you don't have many choices. We have tried the breathe right strips and I think he snores louder with them on then not. But I now sleep with ear plugs. They help a lot and I can still hear my alarm clock or the kids on the monitor with them in. Hope you get some rest!

He needs to see an ENT (ear-nose-throat dr.) it's possible that he has sleep apnea and may need a c-pap to help him breath through the night, but there are other possibilities as well that may need to be fixed through surgery. either way he will need a sleep study done. if your insurance allows i would go straight to an ENT, or if not see if your primary care physician will refer you to one. i'm not sure where you live but if it is near painesville, willoughby, or madison, OH i highly recommend Dr. Bold.

My husband also snores terribly and I finally convinced him to get a sleep study done. It turns out that he has pretty severe sleep apnea and he stops breathing an average of 29 times per hour. He now uses a C-Pap machine when he sleeps and we both get much better rest. I urge you to have your husband talk to his doctor about it. If it is sleep apnea, it's not something to mess around with.
Good luck!

Hello,
I know exactly what you are going through. My husband snored so bad. He tried the Breathe Right Strips, the spray etc... and nothing seemed to help.
He finally went in for a sleep study and found out he had mild sleep apnia. If his was mild, I'd hate to hear someone with sevear sleep apnia. :)
He got a C-pap machine that fits over his nose. It took a while for him to get used to but I love it when he uses it. He didn't use it the other night and I kept nudging him and telling him to roll over because he was snoring.
If he falls asleep on the couch on the weekends and I'm up in bed I can hear him snore and I will leave him on the couche because I'm afraid if he donesn't put his C-pap machine on he will snore and keep me awake. :) (But I do love my husband). It's just with having a 4 year old and an 18 month old that still wakes up in the night sometimes I need my beauty sleep too!!! :)
Have him talk to his doctor about doing a sleep study. If he has sleep apnia, it can be dangerous if he stops breathing in his sleep like my husband was sometimes doing.
A friend of mine had her husband get the surgery done where they do something to your throat using a laser and it helped his snoring.
But, I'm not a doctor and don't know what would be best for your husband.
Good luck to both of you!
I hope you get some sleep soon!!!!

DQ,
I wanted to say "thank you" to everyone who responded, and am sure DQ is very thankful also! I copied and pasted many of your responses and email them to my husband at work. He snores every night and I've woken up and heard him stop breathing many times! It scares me to death! I've told him all of this but he's dodging going to the doctor or doing a sleep study. Maybe reading over everyone's suggestions will open his eyes. Good luck to your and your husband DQ:)
Has he had a sleep study done??
Talk to his doctor about having one done or see what he/she thinks about a CPAP or Bi-Pap machine.
Hope this helps.

Dear SAHM,
You most definitely do need your sleep. Has your husband been seen by a doctor to check for physical problems that could be causing his snoring? Physical problems could be adnoise issues, sleep apnea, a deviated septum...and those a just a few that I know about. I'd guess there are more!
So, get him to see a doctor, pronto!
Good luck,
CMP

Definitely have a sleep study done. My father died of sleep apnea in 1992, we didn't have a clue at the time. My brother figured out early (age 40) that he had it and wears a mask. He said there is a world of difference in how you feel the next day. Sleep apnea is not something to take lightly. The sleep study is expensive, but definitely a life saver. I had mine done at Hendricks County Hospital and the doctors and facility are wonderful. Good luck, M.

He really should see his doctor. My husband snored loud enough to wake the dead! Our doctor referred him to an Ear, Nose, Throat dr. He then had a sleep study done. My husband has moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. After the study, he got a CPAP machine - it is a small machine that sits on his nightstand, has a small mask that fits over his nose & blows room air & forces him to keep his mouth closed & breath through his nose. The noise does not bother me - it is similar to that of a fan. In fact, if he does not have his mask on and not snoring, I keep reminding him to put it on. After getting his machine he felt much better - rested and not getting up with a headache or stomach ache. After the sleep study the dr told us that by doing nothing we could be risking his life - he could develop heart problems. When he went to sleep at the study his BP, oxygen level, temp, heart rate - everything was well within normal ranges. When he got up the next morning all those levels were way out of wack - dr said he could have qualified for oxygen at home if he was on medicare! Sometimes a minor outpatient surgical procedure is needed, but not in my hubby's case. Make him get checked!

Hello, I started snoring bad after I had oral surgery. After 48 years of marriage my husband growled about my snoring. I bought some Snore Ez (I think that was the name) anyway it is a liquid and you swish it around in your mouth for 15 seconds and spit it out 'DO NOT SWALLOW IT'. So far he has not complained about my snoring. You can buy it at any drug store or Wal-Mart etc. Hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

If he is overweight have him diet.Sleep on one side or the other and not his back. They advertise these little sticky things you put on your nose and it holds your nose open at night. They might help.I snore but I sleep alone.:) I try to sleep with my head elevated and it does help.It could be sinus or adnoid problems.

My hubby snored really bad too and often stopped breathing when he was sleeping (apnea). I finally got his dr. to send him for a sleep study & they put him on a CPAP machine at night. He gets a more restful sleep & doesn't snore anymore. Needless to say, I'm getting more sleep now too! Good Luck!
