Does he feel sick? My kid's pediatrician would not consider a temperature of less than 99.9 a fever.
We just started swimming lessons at the local Y about 3 weeks ago. It's not very crowded in the pool, maybe 5 people altogether. This weekend and last weekend, it seems like my almost 6 year old son develops a low fever (99.5) afterward and it lasts about 24 hours or so - actually comes and goes. Then he's fine. He's not a pro at keeping his mouth shut to not swallow water or cough, but he's getting better.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how to stop or minimize it other than quitting the lessons?

It is so low grade, I wouldn't worry about it.
To answer your question no, none of my 6 kids ever got a fever from swimming lessons...none that I noticed anyway.
If 98.6 is the average bodily temp, then 99.5 isn't worrisome, in my opinion. Is the water heated? I'm assuming it is, and it might have something to do with the raise in temp. It's probably just one of those flukey things that's happens. I would continue the lessons and not be overly concerned about the temp, personally. Try moldable ear plugs, in the meantime.
I would imagine it's his body fighting off an infection from the water getting in his ears.
Try using ear plugs or wax next time and see if it makes any changes. If not then I'd rule out the next thing and so forth until you can find the culprit.
Our temperatures fluctuate thru out the day and night. I suggest that this may not have anything to do with swimming. Have you taken is temperature at different times several times to know it only happens after swimming.
If it is caused by the swimming, I suggest it may be caused by activity in heated water.
That is not even a whole degree above normal. I've been to the doctor and had a temp of 99.6 and been told that doesn't count as a fever.
