According to WebMD, children have the following sleep needs:
* 1-3 years old: 12 - 14 hours
* 3-6 years old: 10 ¾ - 12 hours
* 7-12 years old: 10 - 11 hours
* 12-18 years old: 8 ¼ - 9 ½ hours
