Since My Son Needs a New Doorknob....

Yay! We are no longer locked out! From my post yesterday, I dont know how my husband did it, but he got it open! Hinges were on the inside and I wasnt up for that anyways. :)

I have always wanted to change the door hardware out from the blah gold knobs. I want to go with bronze but not in the $$ market to change all of them out right now. I would hate to buy another gold one when I will eventually change them out.

It might drive me crazy to just have one bronze one though.

Did anyone change theirs out gradually and did it look ridiculous?

What can I do next?

We did ours gradually. Did it look odd in the process? Yes, but oh well. Besides you get used to looking at something all the time. I should know because we have three paint colors on the front door since we can't make up our minds. Good luck.

One of the first things we did in this Oh So 80s house was change out all the hardware from cheesy fake brass to brushed nickel.

Switch plates, hinges, doorknobs, outlets, locks, etc.

Cheap and easy. Makes a world of difference.

We just had to replace my youngest child's door knob and we went with bronze. We plan on replacing all of them little by little. It's not a big deal though b/c our rooms are so spread out that you wouldn't really notice.

Maybe you could do one section of the house at a time. Like all the knobs in the hall then all the knobs visible in the living room, then all the knobs in the kitchen. That way, you are doing it gradually, but never looking at two differant finsihes at the same time.

I have stainless on the inside knobs of the bathrooms and brass in most of the rest of the house. My sliders are brushed stainless. I think it looks fine (don't really notice it). Now that you mention it, I might consider changing out the brass ones at some point.

I've changed out a single doorknob before. It was on my kitchen pantry. I switched from round antique gold to nickel lever styled.

I don't know if anyone thought it was odd. No one ever said anything to me. I was a little self-concious about it, but I don't think anyone else ever noticed. I did like having the lever handle, though (and when we moved and built our current home I chose lever handles for ALL the doors in our home). The folks who bought our house never mentioned it during any of our negotiations... and they didn't seem to mind--at least it didn't keep them from buying our house and paying full asking price.
