Shampoo Recommendations for Fine Hair, Please!

I'm looking for a great shampoo for fine hair. I've tried several, and have not found one that wows me yet. I am a no frills, low maintenance hair style girl with just below the shoulder length straight hair. I just brush it out after I wash it and let it air dry, so I don't use any hair products other than the shampoo and conditioner. I would just like to find one that helps lift it a bit - I'm not expecting miracles, but would love to hear what has worked for you! I have heard that not using conditioner helps some by not weighting the hair down, but if I don't use conditioner, my hair will fly around everywhere and feel tangled. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and ideas!!

What can I do next?

I use to ALWAYS use a conditioner. I too have long thin hair and needed it for the tangles. I tried the new Pantene with the light green lid and didn't use conditioner (ran out one day and didn't realize it until it was too late)---totally works. My hair is still tangle free and has a little more volume. I normally find them for $5 a bottle, and saving money on no conditioner helps a little.

My daughter & I also have fine hair. I can't exactly recommend a shampoo that helps with volume. I use Dove most often, but alternate occasionally & that seems to help. Using the same shampoo all the time, it almost seems as if it stops working properly. As far as the conditioning one trick I have learned is to not condition near the roots, try to condition only towards the ends. Conditioning the roots of your hair weighs your hair down more so than if you only do the ends or start atleast a good inch or two away from the scalp.

I have recently started to use Lush (www.lush.com). My sister has very fine hair and she swears by that stuff. They have both shampoo in a bottle form and shampoo in a solid form. So if you use the solid shampoo, your hair has to be super wet and then you just run it through your hair several times like a comb and then rinse it out. But my sister has been using the same bar for a few months now.

The conditioner works the same way, and they have all kinds of products.

I have very sensitive skin and this stuff doesn't irritate me in any way and I don't break out.

I haven't used conditioner in years. Interestingly, every time I get my hair cut, they tell me how healthy it is (well, that was before I lost it in chemo). I do have, and have always been lucky to have, a relatively full head of hair.

I'm not sure that volumizing shampoos really help too much. I do like John Freida's Brilliant Brunette volumizing. But, the shampoo that makes my hair the best right now is Herbal Essences volumizing shampoo.

Real Simple always has great suggestions on their site for different products for different hair types. They recommend a lot of leave in conditioners for people with fine/limp hair. I've never tried them personally.

The best way for me to get the style/volume I want is to dry it with a round brush. I know you're not currently drying it, but it may help with a light hairspray to keep the hair fromy flying around.

I have thin hair, that needs an extra lift. I use either the John Frieda Volumizing (sham & cond) and am currently using the Pantene Full Body (dark purple color). I also have the Pantene Root INfuser or Root Booster. It is not hairspray, but instead you spray it on your roots before you blow dry.

Yours sounds exactly the same as mine. Fine, lots of it, untreated, straight, no products, air dry and wear lots of headbands to keep it off my face. If I use the wrong shampoo/conditioner, it looks greasy. Since I don't spend much time on my hair, I am willing to spend more on shampoo. I really like the Aveda Shampure shampoo and conditioner, and switch out occasionally with their Rosemary Mint line. I only use a touch of conditioner (avoiding the scalp) and rinse it out very quickly. That seems to keep it under control.
