Hi Everyone,

Okay Moms.... do any of you have experience with this: My daughter has sensory issues when it comes to clothing. I am getting better at helping her find clothing that she feels comfortable in. However... I need suggestions on socks and shoes. When it's warm outside, it's easy.... she wears crocs or flip flops. But.. now I have been telling her to wear socks and shoes. She can't stand the feeling of shoes and socks on her body. She is much, much happier being barefoot or with flip flops. (We have compromised with the socks... she will wear ankle socks only.... still hates the feeling of them.)

So my question is.... Do you know where I can buy certain socks (preferably with no seams/decorations) and or shoes that are extremely comfortable for people with sensory issues? I am especially interested in hearing from others who have personally experienced this with their own kids. I did a search online and I now know there are products like this, but I would preferly shopping at an actual store.

Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Have you seen the crocs with a shearling lining? My daughter currently wears them without socks, and her feet are always toasty (I know, because I constantly check). Also, last year, she wore her Uggs all the time. They also have a super warm, soft lining, and no need to wear socks. You can try both of them at Nordstroms. If there is a special brand you are looking for, I'd give Nordstrom a call - they have a very large children's section.

My son has sensory issues, but luckily his clothing sensitivities are minimal (no jeans, no belts). A friend of mine swears by Hanna Andersson for her child (who sounds similar to yours) and I've noticed the pieces we have are very soft, no scratchy threads or tags. I would try them for socks.

You might want to try Zappos.com for shoes, too - free shipping both ways. Lately I've been buying Tsukihoshi shoes. They run large/wide, so not for narrow feet, but they are very lightweight, the lightest athletic shoes I've seen anywhere, and airy. I like them for when I want his feet covered but they might get wet, because they dry so quickly.

My son always preferred to be naked so I can relate.
We always got his shoes at Salamander's on Lincoln Ave. in Chicago near Lawrence.
They are high quality European made shoes & the salespeople know how to fit children.
