I moved here 2 1/2 yrs agp and became pregnant shortly thereafter. The Sutter Hospital Birthing Center was recommended to be, as was the Sutter Women's Group Practice. Both are in west Davis, north of Covell Blvd. I had an excellent experience, especially with the midwives. Beth is the one who actually was present at my daughter's birth. She and the others were great, as is the facility. Good luck to you!

Dr Tilton at Davis is fantastic she attended the birth of my child and we had a wonderful experience and worked with me to avoid a c-section. I don't know about the 20 hour labor rule I know friends who have had very complicated births and were allowed to deliver vaginally. However I do know that Woodland Memorial now has a birth center as competitive as Davis. Davis used to the the area leader hands down. Woodland have a lactation consultant on staff davis does not. The birth center at davis seems newer but the nurses at woodland get a fantastic review as do the midwives. davis has water birth options and you can deliver in the water. Woodland you can labor in water but can not deliver in water. I would highly recommend a midwife birth regardless of where you decide to deliver and I would have had one except for complications. I can recommend Djina Ariel at woodland she is a fantastic midwife as is Kim also at woodland. Bottom line is both birth centers are fantastic but offer slightly different options. Visit both and interview them and have a clear idea of the kind of birth you want and see which Drs and which center best support your birth plan.

Good luck!

Dr. Snodgrass. She is amazing! Basically anyone in the UC Davis network off of Covell. Go see Dr. Riggle for a reference. I hear it is hard to get in though.

It definitely depends on your insurance coverage as to where you can go, but I live in Woodland & we absolutely love Woodland Healthcare. I am continually impressed with the level of care & quality we receive in all areas of health needs. My son (2.5) goes to Dr. Thomas March - Dr. March always gives us at least 20 minutes of his undivided attention, usually more - at Daniel's first visit we were talking for over an hour! Coming from a larger city, this would have been unheard of.

As for an OB, I've seen Dr. Wong a few times, who was fine, but during my pregnancy I've been seeing Dr. Curkendall - very impressed. Easy to talk to - again, gives me as much time as I need; supportive in my decisions, etc. Highly recommend. I've also been impressed with the lactation consultant I talked with, the classes they offer for new moms (& experienced ones :>), & though I've yet to give birth there, I've heard from several moms that they only had good experiences at the hospital when they gave birth.

I've heard good things about Sutter-Davis, but I've only known one friend who has given birth there. One thing I wasn't sure I agreed with was their policy about how long they will allow you to labor. 20 hours is the max - after that, you are automatically taken to have a c-section. My friend came within 10 minutes of the 20-hour mark & had to push that kid out any which way she could muster JUST so she wouldn't have to endure a c-section. In my opinion, that's kind of an extreme policy when it should be case-by-case. Again, I only have 1 example, so I'm not saying they're a terrible place or anything & it's possible that policy has changed. My friend had only good things to say regarding her Dr. visits there & her stay after the baby was born. Just something to inquire about it if you decide to check them out!

Hi, I delivered both my girls at Sutter Davis as did many friends of mine with their children. Personally I recommend the Family Practice Doctors that are also ob's. They will see you the whole way through and also afterwards. I had Dr. Betty Patterson, though I don't think she delivers babies any longer, however, we still see her to this day and she has seen both my girls grow as well. Any of the doctors in the family practice there are wonderful. Also, just in case there happened to be any complications, the dr. is right there during delivery. Good luck!

Welcome to the area M. and congratulations!
It depends on your insurance, but I had a GREAT experience with Sutter in Davis. They have a women's clinic right by the hospital with a great team of Dr.s and midwives. I was recommended to see Dr. Zoe Tilton there, but the whole staff was great to work with and I felt well taken care of thoughout my pregnancy and birth of my first.
Now, I have Kaiser insurance and am going to that clinic in Davis - referred to Dr. Hernreid. I've only been going there since Jan, but so far so good.
Let me know if you are also looking to meet other moms in the area, I've been working hard to get plugged in for the past couple years myself and it's difficult when you're starting from scratch. I'd be happy to help.
Best wishes.

It depends on whether you are going to Sutter Davis or Woodland Healthcare. I have lived here 19 years, in both woodland and davis, I had insurance through Sutter Davis and I would highly recommend Dr Beth Johnson. She is part of a group so you don't always get to see her, almost everyone in the group was good and I saw her 95% of the time.
