Seeking Durable Children's Furniture

Hi. We are ready to upgrade to a twin bed for my 3 year old. I never realized how hard it would be to find a darn twin bed! I want one that is real wood, will hold up over time, and is attractive. It seems every bed we find is either cheaply contructed and costs $150 or is really nice but costs $700-$800. Spending that kind of money seems ridiculous to me. I see so many great ones at pottery barn kids or Land of Nod, but the cost is crazy. Why can't you find anything in the $400 range???

Is this just the harsh reality of children's furniture? Is it worth spending $800 on a twin bed? It's not that I'm cheap, but I just don't know if the products justify the cost.

Morning,
We actually bought my son's bed at Value City Furnature 5 years ago and it holds up great http://www.vcf.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisp... is the website for kids beds or just go to VCF.com and click through.
We bought the one with the draws under the bed. That way we have a little extra places for his special toys and there is no under the bed really.
The cost is not bad... About $250 to $499.
Just a place to look.
Good luck to you

Hi
Have you checked out some of the local furniture outlets? On Army Trail Rd., in Glendale Heights (just west of I-355), there's a Walter E Smith outlet, and about 8 miles west, still on Army Trail Rd., is a Toms Price furniture outlet.

I too am looking for a bed for my 2.5 year old (not quite ready for a big boy bed), and want a full-size bed for him. I found some sets on the Target website that look OK, but am not sure of the quality.

Good luck!

It took about 3 months of looking, but we found a great solid wood bunkbed set on Craigslist. It would have cost more than $1500 new, but we paid $350 (about the same as the pressed-board version from Ikea.)

I saw an ad this morning for Rooms4Kids furniture outlet at 629 West Cermak. The ad said they have all-wood furniture.

Hi, my husband and I are selling my daughter's twin bedroom det. It is white wood with a wicker facade. It can use a fresh coat of paint but it is made very well. The set includes two dressers, one six drawer, one three drawer, a headboard, a nightstand(we are throwing it in because it is the one piece that needs to repaired), a mirror and a three shelf hutch. I have pictures if you are interested as well as measurements.I was planning to put it on ebay next week so let me know. I will send pictures or you can come to look at it. we are hoping to get around 250 for the whole set.

Let me know so I know before I place it on ebay. my email is ____@____.com

I bought both of my children's furniture at a children's store in the south suburbs of Chicago (Orland Park) called My Own Little Room. The furniture was definitely on the pricier side, but in my mind it was well worth the money since I plan on keeping the furniture until the kids are in their teens. And, the furniture wasn't the same old, same old like you see at pottery barn. And I remember asking a few questions to the staff and they were quite helpful.

Good luck.

I like the furniture at D. 'N Heir in Naperville. They have a lot of pricey stuff and are hard-sell sales people, but I've found good values there. Just don't let them talk you into anything that isn't right for you. And be sure to go home and think about it before you purchase as they don't do returns.
