I have a 9 month old boy. At night we prepare him for bed with a new, clean diaper. He sleeps alone, in his crib, and most of the night he sleeps on his belly. Most mornings we discover that he is wet along with his clothing and the bed. We have tried different diapers and changing him in the middle of the night is out of the question. Is there any advise for us to avoid a wet, soggy baby and bed?
HI - my son is 9 months old as well and we had the same problem about a month ago. The advice I got was to put him in a larger size diaper at night and it has worked. His diaper is still soaked in the morning, but his clothes are dry. good luck!

Hi A.,
I agree with many of the other mothers. My son sleeps on his belly and it was like the wetness was just seeping right out the front on his belly. We got the Huggies Overnight diapers and they worked great. He still occasionally will be wet in the mornings, but they're few and far between. Good luck!

Whenever my little one gets sopping wet, I know that it's time to up to her to next diaper size - even if she's not in the weight range according to the package. Also, I started feeding her cereal at bedtime instead of a bottle...and things got A LOT drier :) Good luck!

Hi A.- I am having the same problem with my 5 month old boy! These boys! Someone suggested to me to get a "Diaper Doubler"- have you tried them? That is what we are using right now and it really seems to help. It is basically like a big maxi pad that you put in the diaper to make it thicker. We have only had one leak through since we started using them a few weeks ago. They are in the diaper isle at Babies R Us in a light blue package (good news- they are probably $4.00 for 30 of them). I also know that they make specific nighttime diapers- have you tried them? They don't make them small enough for my little guy, so we haven't tried them yet, but might be an option for you! Good luck!

You may want to try a larger size diaper. My son, who also sleeps on his belly would wake up with a wet belly until I changed to a size 3. I hope this helps! Take Care!

Go the next size up for bedtime. Or, if available in a size that fits him, get one specifically for nighttime. One of these should work. If not, get a one of the vinyl diaper covers that are used with cloth diapers.
Good luck!

I am going to reiterate what some others have already said....Huggies Overnights...they are a miracle. I had this problem with my little girl as well. She was in a size 2 diaper and I could only find size 4 Overnights so I tried them...she's been dry ever since.

Try the next size up in diaper. Our son did that and as soon as we went up a size in diaper the problem stopped and he's been dry ever since.
Hope that helps,

The only diapers that ever kept my son dry were Luvs. We tried the other brands, but they were the only ones to keep him from leaking outside the diaper. Trust me they work!

Have you tried Huggies nighttime diapers? We use them on our 2 year old and they work great! We have probably only had 2 or 3 times in the last year that the diaper has leaked. They are a bit more expensive but so worth it if you don't have to change the sheets every morning.
You could also try using the next size bigger diaper on him at night. So if he wears a size 3 diaper put him in a size 4 at night.
Good luck!

Use the next size up diaper. Every single time I had either a poopy back with a child, or soggy mornings, my mom told me to switch up. It always worked.

Could you have the wrong size diaper? It can be too big and a child can leak, you can have too small of a diaper as well and the diaper can leak. What kind of diapers do you use? Certain diapers make a big difference for a lot of kids. My sister has 2 boys and she couldn't use huggies, because it didn't keep her youngest from leaking. She started to use pampers, they were alright, but she didn't really like them. So she started using LUVs and she perferred them over anything. My youngest daughter can't be put in Luvs they cause her to rash, we tried pampers and they cause her to leak, now we stick to HUGGIES because huggies are comfortable to her and they keep her dry. We tried the generic brands they all leak!
If no diapers satisfy, there won't be a way to keep your son from being so soggy, but I can tell you how to keep the bed from becoming soggy; you can take plastic bags and put them on the spot he lays, under a blanket or two.

Hi A..
Well, we use cloth diapers & they have liners which we put in at night time for extra absorbancy. He usually never has a leak with that. But I do put a disposable changing pad under him, & recieving blankent on top of that just in case.

Huggies Overnights cured this problem for us (a purple package). They aren't sold everywhere - but you can find them at Babies R Us or Target. Kroger has them sometimes too. Those things could hold back a flood. Also, we even upsized on these to really keep him dry at night.

We've had similar issues with my daughter basically overflowing her diaper at night. The one thing that has been most helpful is that we just buy a pack of the same brand diapers that we usually use, but in the next bigger size. So, basically, she's in size 4 Pamper's Baby Dry for usual daytime stuff...but she's in size 5 Pamper's Baby Dry for her bedtime diaper. And we change her right before bed time...and I make sure that the extra diaper is in the front above her belly button. This works most of the time.
Also, this is probably a no brainer for you...but make sure his wee wee is pointed downward away from the top of the diaper :-)

Have you tried TWO diapers with some plastic pants like they used to wear? You may have to have two sizes, but so what? You're going to have to buy them bigger at some point anyway.
I've heard of moms doing this.

I have a 10 month old son and was experiencing the exact same thing recently! Earlier this week I bought the next size up diaper and in a more expensive brand than what we use for day time. My hubby and I now refer to these diapers as the "night time diapers" or the "big boy diapers" :) We only use them at night and so far, no leaking at all!! Yey!

We've had great success with Huggies Overnight diapers, which I can usually find at Babies R Us, Target and Walmart. In addition, we use Diaper Doublers (I've only seen these at Babies R Us). They are like a sanitary napkin that you put inside the diaper for added absorbancy. They are really inexpensive ... just $2.99 for 30 of them.

My husband and I were just remembering how we used to have this problem with our son - and then you asked about it - wierd! =)
Anyway, we used to find pads, right in the diaper aisle, that were sold specifically for this problem but had trouble finding them toward the end of our problem. Maybe they're still out there in a store near you? So when we couldn't find them anymore, my husband used to literally tear a diaper open and take out the absorbent strip, tear the strip in half, set it diagonally on a paper towel, fold the paper towel around the pad and use a single piece of scotch tape to hold it together. Of course we put the "pad" in so that the scotch tape was away from his body but we put that in his diaper, which helped. We were using a Sam's club store brand diaper back then. This was 7 years ago so I have no idea if this will work for you - diapers may be made differently? Look on the internet for the pads that go in diapers, maybe they're still out there somewhere! Are you using the largest diaper/pull-up size available? We were. There are some pullups out there marketed for night-time wetness (I guess for older kids) maybe those would help? Good luck!
Love and prayers! - B.

I had the same problem with my daughter at 3 different stages. I found that she would wake up wet with soggy clothes when she was close to outgrowing the diaper size. I bought the next size bigger for nighttime (since it is a little bigger it seems to be more absorbent). I hope it will be an easy fix for you too. Good luck!

Hey A.,
My sister-in-law had the same problem with her new twin boys until someone told her to diaper them with it "pointing down". I don't know if you are already doing this, but she says it worked like a charm!
I also bought a bunch of water proof pads that I could put on top and they slept directly on them. Accidents were a breeze to just put the pad in the wash.
good luck!

You might want to try those special nighttime diapers. They hold a little bit more fluid and he might wake up drier in the mornings. Perhaps lay off the fluids after 7 pm, if he's a heavy water drinker like my daughter is, and was.

It may be that he sleeps with the butt up, it happens to us with our girl, you need to put a kotex on his belly between the diaper and the belly to collect the urine.

Pampers baby dry have always worked well for me or if he is active, try Cruisers.
I would check to see how much liquid he is consuming after dinner - is there a way to cut back, say on a bedtime bottle or sippy? The worst part is probably changing the crib sheets. Babies R Us sell the "Ultimate Crib Sheet" (about $18). It is a sheet with waterproofing on the backside. It attaches via snaps to the crib slats. When it is wet/dirty, you just undo the snaps and toss it in the wash. No struggle with the mattress because it lays on top. It is soft after a few washings, just like a regular sheet. As a working mom myself, it is some of the best money I have ever spent. I am tall but HATE fighting with a crib mattress. BTW, you keep a sheet on the mattress and if in the middle of the night you do need to change it, you pull it off and there is his regular sheet waiting, and back to bed you go 9in theory anyway). Sorry this probably wasn't much help but the Ultimate is a huge time/frustration saver.

My son had that same problem. It seemed to me that he would fill a diaper capacity with one shot. We double diaper him now and we don't have that problem anymore. You just put one diaper on, then put another diaper on right over top of it. Thi worked for us. Hope it helps you.

We have had great success with Huggies "Overnight" diapers. They absorb really well and we have had very few accidents with them. We started using them on our children from about 6 months on. They are hard to find though. Babies R Us is about the only store I have seen that carries them regularly. Rite Aid has them occasionally. Hope this helps!

Hi A.. I ran into the same issue with my son (now 15 months). He has been sleeping through the night since he was 4 months old, and we were finding that normal diapers just couldn't keep him dry through a 10 hour period. We started buying Huggies Nighttime diapers. The smallest size I could find is stage 3 at Toys R Us. Give them a try... they work 95% of the time with our son.

Hi A.,
We've been having the same problem! I finally discovered that my son was putting his hand down his diaper - as a comfort/soothing thing - and that was pushing the front of the diaper down so he was peeing out the top. We switched him to sleeping in a onesie with pants over that so he couldn't get his hands down the front and we've only had one leakage - and that was from a majorly full diaper. Don't know if your son might be doing the same thing or not but that was our problem.
If he is having really full diapers at night you might limit how much he drinks before bed. I've noticed that if my son has a lot to drink in the evening then he tends to have a VERY full diaper in the morning.
Good luck!
