I love my bissel! It's perfect for the whole carpet cleaning and a life saver for the spilled grape juice on the carpet. It deep cleans and makes the room smell good.
Can anybody recommend a specific brand for a steam carpet cleaner that doesn't require a lot of chemicals to get a deep clean with? I'm not even sure if there's one out there that just uses hot water. I'm looking into purchasing one for the home--not a commercial steam cleaning service. Thanks for any helpful suggestions!! God Bless!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Wow! You ladies were awesome in your responses. My husband and I are still researching. I did tell him about your helpful resonses to my questions. I had no idea how much there was out there. The prices range from $79--1,500(these are not your standard Hoover or Bissell brand). We don't know if we want to spend that much money yet. Thanks again for all of your input!! God bless! *************
It turns out that we purchased a Hoover SteamVac CleanSurge. It got one of the better consumer ratings. We just had to buckle down and make a decision after looking at ALL the makes and models. Thanks for the safe vinegar and baking soda tips. We definitely will try that since our daughter has skin allergies, which we have not been able to pinpoint the culprit as of yet. Thanks a million to all of you helpful mommies!!

I have a Bissel cleaner and it's absolutely wonderful! We have 2 dogs who shed a lot and the vacuum doesn't get all the fur up. Not only did this get up the fur (as well as other dirt), it was easy to clean the fur out. When we've used it on floors with less fur, the dirt has washed out jsut as easily. My husband used to clean carpets professionally and he says the Bissell is as good as the thousand-dollar cleaners they bought. The one thing that we love the most is that it has a built-in heater. I don't like the chemicals with having a 5mo old on the floor all the time, and my husband said the cleaners were only used in the worst situations so we just use plain water to clean our carpets. It's still gotten out juice, washable paint, some ink, and pet stains. I think the name is Bissell Pro-Heat. Extended family have other Bissells and all love them.
We have a Hoover SteamVac LS Edition. IIRC it also heats the water so it doesn't have to be super hot when you put it in, and we've used just about every cleaning fluid on the market. We got it because we have wall to wall carpeting and a dog to clean up after any of his "accidents" but its been great with our DS as well.
I love the Rug Doctors. I rent one from Lowes every few months and they are fantastic. You can purchase them, too. I had a Bissell Pro Heat and I used it twice and it stopped sucking. It would squirt the solution, but not suck it up and the attachment never worked. I love the way rug doctor cleans but they are big and bulky. I would buy one but I have very limited storage space in my home and absolutely no where to put it.
We had a Bissel Proheat home steam cleaner and it was a total piece of junk. It leaked soap and water all over. Bissel finally sent me a refurbished one to replace the one I bought and that one did the same thing. I will never buy a Bissel product again.
I have a Bissel ProHeat 2x that I purchased from Costco. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11294726...
I had a Hoover for many years and this Bissel is much better.
I purchased a Bissel upright and have been very happy that I did! We have had it for about 4 years now and it is very easy to use! It looks much like an upright vaccuum and you fill one part with water and one part with solution, I have done my family room on a whim in about 30 mins- so convenient to have and definitely saves you money in the long run. I also purchased a small hand held one for stairs and small stains when I didn't feel like taking out the upright cleaner. Hope this helps!
I think my mom has a Bissel? I think she said she got it from Home Depot or you can probably get one wherever they sell vacuum cleaners. Its the easiest thing in the world to use and the results are FABULOUS. I've been holding hers for over a year now lol. A little bigger and a wee more expensive than a vacuum, but it works the same way and you can use it whenever you want depending on your carpet. I love it, love it, love it...it makes the carpet so soft and its probably great if you have pets, kids, or allergies.
We have a Bissel Pro-heat that I have been happy with.
Hoover Spin Scrub is the best steam cleaner I've ever used. I borrowed every kind of steam cleaner that all my friends and family had and in the end, the Hoover Spin Scrub was the best (got it at Sears). It's designed just like an upright vacuum (obviously no bag, just a plastic bucket that collects the dirty water), all the tools are on board, so you never have to search for them, and the hand held attachment to do your upholstery has spinning scrub brushes so it will get EVERYTHING out of your carpet and furniture. When my husband and i first moved in together he had a Bissell and it eventually stopped sucking anything up. I got many years of use out of my Hoover and when it finally crapped out (took about 6 years) and it came time to buy a new one, we both decided on getting another Hoover Spin Scrub. It was good enough that I've bought it twice now and my hubby was converted. My guess is the Hoover will last a lot longer than 6 years if you actually take care of it (still teaching my hubby to unload the dirty water when he's done using it. He has difficulty with this concept for some reason), but now I'm the one everybody comes to borrow the steam cleaner from. As a testament to the Hoover, my most discerning friend went and bought one after having borrowed mine. Way better than a Bissell (which incidentally crapped out in less than 2 years).
i have tried alot of differant kinds. the woolite new rug stick is good (with a little elbow grease) for just a light cleaning. but as far as carpet cleaners, after trying several kinds ( i borrowed from friends and family)... nothing beat spending $40 and renting one from the local grocery store. i didnt want to invest in buying one, becuz the ones i have tried dont even touch how clean the grocery store rentals get the carpet. plus, spending $40 every 4-5 months is just easier for us. good luck.

bissell proheat 2x. i love mine! easy and works great=) oh and i dont use the cleaner for it either. its expensive, smells like chemicals and leaves the carpet sticky. i use plain white vinegar with water and it works great. less expensive and environmentally friendly too. good luck!
I know exactly what you need, but it will cost a bit. The system cleans not only carpet, but it cleans furniture, floors, vaccuums, and it doesn't even have a bag. You fill it with water, and that's your bag. It's a Thermax. If you want to know more about it, please let me know,ok?
God Bless!
