I don't know where you live but I use Heritage Carpet Cleaning out of Mokena, IL and they do AWESOME work. I love their technique AND the price is perfect! Much less than what I was paying in the past.
Hope this helps!
Hi there! We have gotten our carpets cleaned several times and it just seems so expensive to keep getting them professionally cleaned (especially when a few days later they seem to be needing them again!) My husband has finally agreed that we should purchase our own carpet cleaner. We only have a few rooms in our house that are carpeted, and we would want to use it on our microfiber furniture as well (thats where we need it the most!!) - we have the little green clean machine, but we are looking for something with a little more power and a lot more ease of use for larger areas.
Any advice? We hate to make a large purchase without at least knowing a little about whats out there!
Thanks!!

With this past heavy rain, we got some minor water come into the house. It got on some of the carpet. We have a little bissel but, my husband thought instead of spot cleaning it, we should just rent a machine. He went to Home Depot and rented a carpet cleaner. It was only $15 bucks to rent it for 4 hours!!! It is the best $15 bucks I have ever spent. We did the whole basement and all the area rugs in the house. I have spend alot of money cleaning my area rugs every year, never again. I couldn't believe all the dirty it sucked up!!! You fill the machine with hot water and carpet cleaner soap, start spraying the carpet down, and then go back over it and suck it up. I will never buy my own after renting this!!! A+A+A+A+A+
We have a bissell carpet cleaner. It works very well and is no larger than a vacuum. It also comes with an attachment to do furniture. We have had it for several years and still works great.
We have a Kirby, which vacuums and shampoos the carpet. I have been really impressed with it so far. We had a Hoover carpet cleaner prior to the Kirby, and it puts so much water into the carpet that you wonder if it ever fully dries...and if it causes mold to grow in the padding as a result. With the Kirby, it uses much less water and still seems to do an excellent job.
Years ago, I bought a Regina carpet cleaner only to discover that it seemed to be the cleaning solution that was the problem. Whenever I used it, dirt seemed to stick to the areas I was trying to keep clean. I found a recipie for a cleaning solution that really worked! Use 1/4 Cup baking soda, 1/2 Cup white vinegar, and 1 Cup amonia to 1 gallon of hot or warm water. I doubled it and used it in the Rug Doctor carpet cleaner - rented. My carpet looked like new! It even took out old pet stains! It not only cleans but deodorizes too. I also have the little green machine and it works just fine in it too. This stuff can be used to wash walls, windows, just about anything. I usually use lemon scented amonia - a little easier to tolerate. These ingredients are inexpensive so you can clean often. I have a son that seemed to breakout in a rash when I used to clean my furniture. Now, with this solution, it not longer happens. Maybe because it is less toxic or has fewer chemicals in it. You might want to test it on an area of carpet to see if it would cause problems but everyone that I have given this to hasn't had any trouble. I even gave it to my neighbor with 3 dogs. She also said it took out old stains and left her carpe looking like new! Hope it works for you too.
I just bought a Bissell Clean Shot Pro Heat 2x carpet cleaner(after the one I had for 8 years wasnt cutting it anymore). It is the BEST thing ever!!!!!! We got ours from walmart and they have the cheapest price. It got really good reviews and worked really well when I used mine. Definately worth the money!!!
We have this HOOVER from Sears

The key to home cleaning is not to put too much soap into your carpet and not to get it too wet. Try to make at least two passes on it to extract the water. And always speed dry it when you are done, put a fan on it to dry it quickly when you are done.
If you have kids and/or dogs a home cleaner is pretty much a MUST have!
Hi Jen,
After 2 bad experiences with professional carpet cleaners I bought a Bissell PowerSteamer from Kohls. I absolutly love it!! I have 2 kids a cat (and until recently a 100lb dog) so my cleaner gets a lot of use. It is super easy to use and does not leave my rugs soaked for hours on end. I also have micro fiber furniture that I use the attachments to clean, it does a great job. I would highly recommend this product.
Have a great day & happy cleaning!!
We had a Kenmore carpet cleaner--basic machine--that did the job pretty well until about a year ago when a friend of ours was using it and took a big chunk of the plastic out of the front (no clue how that happened!). Anyway, we just scored a Bissell 2x pro heat cleaner brand new at a garage sale. It's probably a model from a couple years ago but I JUST used it last night to clean our carpets and it works very well! I know that they aren't that expensive--check the usual places and Kohl's--they always have a sale plus extra savings with your Kohl's card!
I have purchased two Hoover steam cleaner, the first was stolen. I love them both. They have done a great job. I clean my carpets and regular floors with it. A great time saver. I have a cat who gets upset when I change thing so he goes on the carpet every once in a while. I can confirm that it got that odor out as well. It has even removed some untreated spots that I did not know were under furniture. Aren't children fun when they hide food.
I have the Hoover steam cleaner and it works great. I can't remember what exact one it is but it was around $140.00 with the hose attachments for small jobs. It was well worth the money spent.
Check the hoover or bissel brands of cleaners. we used to have the bissel big, green clean machine. it finally quit working a couple years ago. we now have my mom's hoover upright carpet cleaner. it is really easy to use and does a nice job.
We have a Bissell pro heat and are very happy with it. We got it about 2 years ago from Costo for about $200. It's nice because you don't have to mix the shampoo - there is a seperate container - so you only use what you need, and pour the rest back in the bottle if you don't use it all. There is also a stainmaster attachment, because I guess the more you steam clean your carpet the more the stain resistance wears. So this way you can reapply the treatment and won't need to clean your carpets as often. Also, probably about a month after we got it - it lost suction, we called the company, they paid to have someone come pick it up from our house, took it to their repair shop, determined it was just defective and sent us a brand new one! We've used this one since probably twice per year, plus lending it our to my family on several occasions. Hope this helps!
All I can tell you is I tried the Bissell carpet cleaner a long time ago, and it's made of such cheap plastic parts that it's not worth it. When it breaks down, it starts leaking soapy water onto the carpet which creates a dirty black spot that can't be washed out until the carpet cleaners come to your house. I would recommend Stanley Steemer whenever you need it instead.
