i have been reading on here lots of suggestions from other people about haircare salons for toddlers, and this is what i've found out from calling several places-
1. Sport Clips 14.00
2. Fantastic Sams 9.95
3. Great Clips 12.00
4. Shear Madness 16.00 (35.00 if you get the "first haircut" certificate and pictures)

i saw a lot of people commenting on these so i was wondering (other than shear madness - for that price and because they're specially geared towards kids, they'd BETTER be great with them) does anyone have any experience with good/bad cuts and kid relations at these places? of course i'm leaning towards fantastic sams due to the price, but any advice about how any of them actually do with kids would be great. thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the input! i'm cheap, so we went to fantastic sams. the gentleman there was really good with my son (for all that he really wanted nothing to do with the whole process). knowing my son i'm not sure it could have gone better. we had to keep him entertained with a cookie, the spray bottle, his sippie cup, and finally a sucker (i was not impressed - the hair IMMEDIATELY stuck like glue to the sucker) but we made it through. weren't brave enough for the trimmers but that's okay. it's done with! thanks again!

Hi Carrie.
We took my son for his first hair cut at 23 months old to Sports Clips based on the suggestions I got here. What I wish I would have known (or known to ask) was if they were geared towards little guys. We had talked it up to my son for days so when we got there, I felt like we couldn't turn back. They have booster seats but they don't secure to the chair or have a belt to hold them in - I could just see him falling out of the chair. He had to sit on my lap and I ended up covered in hair. I didn't get to stand back and watch the big event. I really was disappointed - it wasn't what I had in mind for his first haircut. Hope this helps!

Good luck,
S.

Carrie, I have 2 boys and we only go to Sports Clips. You will have a survey on your receipt that you can complete to get a $3 coupon for your next visit. I haven't gotten a stylist that was bad with my boys. They cut hair on men and boys all day long, so they know what they are doing.

I have 2 boys, and I have had great luck with Great Clips. We always request the same gal everytime, so they know her and are very comfortable with her. If you watch the newspaper and those coupon booklets that come in the mail, they often have coupons for $6.99 haircuts, or $2 off, etc.

I have learned to do it myself. Now, I don't have any training but I am "visual" so it took me a few times and a few bad hair cuts. But, it's easy now, I'm quick, my kids are used to me and I don't go fancy. I also do it right before bath for easy clean up and I also do my husband. The clippers were the only investment and we got the good kind with lots of guards to help. But, for over 3 years now we have been doing that and saving lots of money. It's a thought. Don't try your first time before family pics or anything but, if you are going to go somewhere anyway, why not try and get your kid not so afraid of it before hand you might suprise yourself. There are lots of places on-line that give you tips :)

Hi Carrie,

The one thing I suggest is to try and find a hairdresser that has children. They tend to be much more patient. Toddlers tend to move around alot and its like cutting a moving target. I do know alot of people like going to Shear Madness because it can keep their little minds occupied for a short period. The other thing I suggest is that if you choose to take hime somewhere that they dont have televisions....maybe take a portable DVD player with you. That has helped alot with many of my clients!! And, of course, depending on age, the bribe can always be effective as well. Anything from a sucker to McDonalds to a new toy. Hope all that helps!

Carrie, we've gotten my son's first four cuts now at Great Clips, they've done a great job. It's close to our home and the price is right. On the other hand, my niece has to go to some high end kiddo salon because they have more things geared to keep her occupied. Who knows, I'd definitely try a low end first, they work with kiddos all the time. (he actually got his first sucker there haha) Since it was his first haircut they put a little snippit of hair into a special envelope for me with the date and what not for keepsake, and we've just kept going back about once a month. Hope this helps! Best of luck!

I have two boys and we used to go to fantastic sams because of the price, but no matter what I would tell them how I wanted the cut the would just buzz it.(the one in Lenexa). Sports clips does a great job I think with the kids and the cuts are really good.
