Hello Everyone,

My 16 month old son needs his first real haircut, and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good person and/or place that does haircuts for little ones in the Fort Worth/Arlington/HEB area. Thank you!!

So What Happened?

Thank you, ladies, for your prompt replies! On Saturday, we took our son to Cool Cuts 4 Kids in N. Richland Hills. It was a great experience! He sat in a fire engine, watched a Baby Einstein video, and didn't squirm or fuss at all. The girl who cut his hair was named Kym, and she was great. We also got a little card with some of his hair and a place for a photo.I can now join all of you in highly recommending this chain of salons as a fantastic place to take your little ones their for their first professional cuts.

The best place for boys to go for their first haircut is Hudson's Family Barber shop. They are in Arlington (do a google search & you can find their website.)

We took both of our son's there for first haircuts. They are great with the kids, and Mom gets a certificate and a little envelope of a snip of hair to keep for thier baby books.

Either Cool Cuts 4 Kids or Sweet N Sassy. They're used to wiggly kids and are quick/efficient and cater to entertaining little ones while cutting.

I have always taken my daughter to Supercuts. I'd think a game/movie/fancy seat would be a waste for what amounts to a 10-15 minute haircut, and that it would be a pain to drag her out. JMO. Frankly, looking at the mirror and talking to the sylist keeps her entertained and the promise of a sucker afterward keeps her in line.
Supercuts is inexpensive, and after her first cut she got a certificate & lock of hair.
ETA- Oh yeah, we don't have to make an appointment and rarely have to wait in line. So it's convenient.

I strongly recommend Lisa at Simply Cuts in NRH...she is located at College Circle/Davis Blvd. She used to specialize in childrens haircuts...she did my sons first cut and he is almost 11 now...

Kazaams off Cooper and Arkansas in Arlington is wonderful. The staff is great with kids and will work with them through the first cut. I've always been pleased with their services. It's a homegrown place--none of the ammenities of a chain, but worth it.

Cool Cuts on Hulen and South Avenue (across from the Burlington Coat Factory) did a great job on my daughter's first haircut. They made a big deal out of it, saving her hair, taking a picture, etc. The gal was very patient with my squirmy daughter and the price was quite reasonable.

Cool Cuts 4 Kids is a great place for little ones to have haircuts. I took both of my sons there for their first haircut and subsequent ones while they are in the wiggle stage. They have chairs that look like cars and fire engines and can put in a video to distract them if you want. They also make a big deal of the first haircut and give you a picture and clipping of their hair. I would make an appt. even though they take walk-ins as it guarantees your spot in line. There are several locations in Arlington, HEB and Ft. Worth you can check www.coolcuts4kids.com.

I have a good friend/stylist who works at Razl-Dazl Salon in S.Arlington, on Green Oaks Blvd. just north of I-20. She is hearing impaired and has a very soft voice, which seems to charm most kids and adults! I have seen many children happily climb into her chair. She is gentle and quick, too. Ask for Wendy.
After my son got his first 'real' haircut at the age of 7 months, I found it fairly simple to give him trims while he was sleeping! I would slip a pillowcase or towel under his head to catch the trimmings, cut one side, turn his head over to cut the other, then just even it up when he was awake! I didn't get too many complaints from him, because the 'sit still' part was mostly out of the way by the time he woke up. :) (Be careful with your choice of scissors, the smaller the better, and it helps if they're not too cold.) Good luck to you! C.

We always had the best luck with the men's barber shops - the old timey shops. There is a great one in Watauga off 377...but I think you're in Arlington...good luck. We tried Cool Cuts with our boys several times b/c of the games they can play, etc. during the cut...and were always taking them back to the barber for a fix. :(
