So What Happened?

First of all I want to thank all the ladies out there for taking the time to help me out! THANKS ALOT! I used the Magic eraser and it REALLY works wonders! It did take off a lil paint, but I'd rather have that than bright red circles all down the hall!
:0)
I ended up wiping down all the other walls that had pencil, pen, and highlighter circles that my daughter made also. Not to mention all the lil dirty hand spots around corners. I have to buy another box because I really want to wipe down my whole house...AND i have to get the circles my daughter left on my bedframe!
ahhhh, yes, the sweet, sweet smell of motherhood!
:0)
Thanks again ladies!!

I use to work in a child care center and we use to get crayons, pens, Sharpe marker off of tables and chairs and all sorts of stuff. Sounds weird but we used W D 40 and it came rite off. Worked for us and it didnt mess with paint. Hope you have luck.

BE careful!! The Magic Erasers are addictive!! I buy the whole shelf of them whenever I shop. My 3 yr. old son likes to use them too - so I make him clean up his messes. They even get greasy orange Dorito fingerprints off!
Maybe I need a support group...

Try the mister clean eraser. However, it also can remove paint so hopefully you have some touchup paint around.

I am not sure about a dry erase marker, but my mom was able to get Sharpie off of wood furniture and paint with one of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers.

Hope you can find something that works. Good luck!

My 2 year old did the same thing. Ha! I got one of those Mr. Clean Eraser with the orange Febreeze one one side and used it. It took some elbow greese but it came off. It was bright red on a white wall and it had been on there for a couple of weeks because I had tried other things that didn't work and thought I was just going to have to paint over it. Then I saw those Mr. Clean Eraser things and decided to try it and it worked. Good luck!

Hi C. -

Ah, welcome to the joys of motherhood, lol!

For the computer, try Goof Off. You can get it at any hardware store, and it's great for this sort of stain. Don't use it on the walls, though -- it removes dried latex paint as well.

Best of luck...

I had this experience about a month ago when my daughters wrote on a wall at church with a dry erase marker. I tried a lot of stuff and what worked was Simple Green and a toothbrush. I'd be careful about spraying it on your computer, but it should work for the walls.

Try Goo Gone (sold at Dollar Tree). If that doesn't do the trick, try "Goof Off." It's sold at Wal-Mart in the paint department or at Home Depot. It's designed to take graffiti off cars and walls without harming the paint underneath. (Make sure you test a small area first to see if it'll disturb your wall paint just in case). It should work on your computer, too.

The best thing I have ever used is the "Magic Eraser." It gets anything off of walls. You can get it at Target.

Not sure if it is safe to use on walls, but there is a product called grafitti remover they sell at hardware stores (I think we got it at Home Depot) and it took black sharpie marker off a bunch of stuff my son drew all over (including some carpeting in his room and a therapy ball and a computer chair mat. Again, not sure if it would take paint off the wall or not, so you will have to check the bottle. You may just have to repaint. It might be the easiest way to cover it up.

Try a magic eraser..usually takes anything off, but if you rub too hard the paint will come off too! If that doesn't work you could try windex or even nail polish remover. I don't know if either would work but it couldn't hurt! good luck

Hi C.!

I agree with the Mr. Cleanmagic Eraser to try, however, on flat paint surfaces it didn't work for me. Try using the Mr. Clean Spray with the eraser to see if that helps. That combo took permanent marker off of my dining room table.... Thank God!

Happy Scrubbing!

Hi C.,

My daughter did something similar only it was with one of those correction marker (black) that teachers use. She marked up our refrigerator and walls. I got it out with Ajax. It came off the refrigerator real good, but it took a little of the paint off of the walls. We had to retouch the paint on the walls. In all it came out pretty good. Hope it works for you.

Good Luck,
A.

Sometimes rubbing alcohol takes marker off, but if your walls are painted with flat paint, it very likely will not come off. Always paint your walls with eggshell or satin or semi-gloss, ladies, and you can wipe them off!

I found a book on natural cleaners called clean house, clean planet by Karen Logan, and have loved the cleaners, which are easy to make. For crayon and marker on wall, her "alice's Wonder Spray" worked great. I sprayed kit on the wall or sponge, and sprinkled a little baking soda on the sponge for extra grit, and it came off with just a little elbow grease. I recommend the book! The Alice's Wonder Spray recipe: Mix 2 tbsp vinegar with 1 tsp borax. Fill a 16-oz spray bottle with 12 oz hot water (distilled water works best). Add vinegar/borax solution and shake well. Add 1/4 cup liquid soap (Dr. Bronner's from Whole Foods works great). Add 10 - 15 drops essential oil, eg Melissa (optional). It's a great all purpose cleaner.

I feel much safer having these cleaners around than the store bought toxic cleaners. Borax is not completely benign, so keep the box out of reach of toddlers, but a small amount meixed in the cleaner is unlikely to cause a problem if someone gets in to it accidentally.

I think you are stuck with the stain on the computer. For the paonted areas, paint over it with a paint product called "Kilz" and then repaint the color you want. If your doors are wood (not painted), you may need to sand and refinish them. Hope this helps.

I hate to say this, but if I were you...I'd just buy some paint and paint over it. My son wrote on our walls with a black expo marker and I thought it would come right off...it's dry erase right? Wrong. Nothing would take it off and I ended up just painting over it.

Good luck

I too marvel at Mr Clean erasers for most stains (even sharpie). GooGone has worked for me on a limited amount of problems (I've found other products I like better). But for Dry Erase marker... I'm a teacher and more than once a student has accidentally gotten EXPO dry erase marker on my clothing. I went to EXPO's website and through it found a link to order a product that removed dry erase marker from clothing. I've never tried it on walls. Dry Erase marker is much harder to remove than sharpie (never really cared to find out why, even though they are both manufactured by Sharpie). Red and purple are harder to remove than the other colors. The product is called AMODEX ink and stain remover. I've only purchased it on-line, but the website now shows that some OfficeMax stores, as well as a limited number of Bed Bath & Beyond stores now carry it as well. Good luck!
