Potty Training Girls - Bellmore,NY

My daughter turned two in March and I want to start potty training. She is my only child so I am new at this. I bought a potty seat to attach to the toilet to try first. What are some tips about potty training besides of course being consistent? And how do I handle outings away from home? I planned on using a diaper when I go out. My only concern about the potty seat is that the toilet is pretty high up for her so when she goes by herself, she will need to use her step stool to get up on it.

During the summer, my husband and I spend a lot of time at a friends' lakehouse and I also bought an "on-the-go" potty. This will definitely come in handy on the road as well as a toilet for her. Thank you for the advice.

What can I do next?

Is she showing any signs of actually being ready to train? Does she show interest in the potty and is she staying dry for a couple of hours at a time, or asking to have her diaper changed when it's wet or soiled? There are websites geared toward child development that list signs of potty training readiness and how to help with the process if they are showing them. If she really isn't showing signs of being ready, you might be better off waiting until she starts to, because otherwise it is going to be a long, drawn-out frustrating process. This isn't about the age they are, so much as when they are physically and emotionally ready to try.

Best way for both of my girls (who were 1-2 months after age 2) was to just put them in underwear and stay home for a few days. Both were ready and both were trained within a week. Now of course, after that week you have to consistently keep reminding them, but it works. My older one had dry diapers at night, so she wore underwear to bed, but my younger one stills were a diaper at night. We tried pull-ups for both, but they never felt the uncomfortable part of being wet. So that is what worked for me. Neither one wanted to go in the toddler potties, they wanted the big one that mom and dad were using. Be prepared for a lot of accidents at first, but if they are truly ready, they will catch on. (We actually had wood floors and pulled up all the rugs to make for easy clean-up). Good luck!

my kids were pottty trained in 3 days. I put them in cotton panties and told them not to pee in their pants.

When we switched to panties we never went back to diapers ever ever.

It is confusing to a kid to switch back and forth between diapers adn panties. do not buy pullups. a big waste of money. my duaghter called them panty diapers.

buy her a small potty on the floor. that is the easiest for little ones.. yes you have to clean it .. but just for a couple of months till she is ready for hte big potty.

You can buy her a solid gold potty seat but she won't use it til she's ready. When she's showing signs of unprompted interest, showing signs of bladder control, THAT'S the time she'll be receptive.

I say this in hindsight, I wished I'd waiting and not forced and not had so much unnecessary stress in my life.

My boys were not fully potty trained until almost 4. (I TRIED AND TRIED EVERYTHING!)

My daughter (the youngest), on the other hand, took off her diaper at 19 months, climbed up on the toilet, and that was the end of diapers forever.

(And DAMN, by then I'd learned my lesson, wanted a chance to let the preschooler train itself, she beat me to the quick!)

:)

Ever notice how when kids feet hit warm water they pee? My sister's son refused to pee in the potty. So she sat him on it an put his feet in warm water, BOOM he went potty! Brilliant! Now he understands and is getting better about it. My daughter is potty trained, except in public, we are still working on that. We encouraged her by doing this crazy dance whenever she went potty. She thought it was so funny that she wanted to sit on the potty so then we could dance! :)
