Possible False Negative on Pregnancy Test?

Hi Moms -
I'm trying to get pregnant and my period is more than a week late (though in the past my periods have been unpredictable). For 10-14 days, I've had symptoms of both PMS and early pregnancy - especially sore breasts and frequent peeing. I had a little bit of spotting on Thursday and Friday. All good signs, right? But I've taken several pregnancy tests and they've all come up negative. Anyone ever experience (or know some one who experienced) a false negative so far past their period due date? If so, how and when did you actually find out you were pregnant?
Thanks so much -

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone - unfortunately, what I hoped was a false negative turned out to be a true negative. But I certainly learned something new!

One of my former daycare clients said that over-the-counter tests AND blood tests were negative until she was 3 months along!!! Her child is 4 now.... Not normal, but I guess it could happen.

Yep, me. My 7 year old. First test at a week was negative. Doctor had just done a battery of tests on me to find out why I had not gotten pregnant yet and told me I would need medical help getting pregnant. So I figured I was just having an irregular cycle. When the morning sickness started kicking my butt 2 weeks later and I thought I had a flu bug, my beloved boss suggested I was pregnant. Yep!!!!

False negatives happen all the time. False positives do not. To get a positive result the hormone that shows up in your system during pregnancy needs to be present in your urine, so unless you are in fact pregnant, it will not be there. If there is not enough of it or a high enough concentration of it, you can and WILL get a false negative. I suggest getting a blood test if you really believe that you may be pregnant. Best of luck to you and I hope that congrats are in order! :)

That happened with me. It ended up that I wasn't as far along as I thought I should be, by two weeks. It took almost three weeks past my expected period to get a positive.

I waited until I was a month late to take a taste. I knew I was pregnant when coffee didn't agree with me. And this from a three-cup-a-day mommy!

Good luck!

Clear blue and first response if they came up neg, they are right. I took a first response test n found out I was pregnant @ 3-4 weeks but b/c I had some complications I also gave myself some time b4 I took the test. Best advice is have fun baby making and it will come, when u worry or try 2 hardu raise the chem levels in ur body disturbing the balance ur need for the "magic" to happen. GOOD LUCK :-)

Wait another week, take a digital test. If you're still not having your period, get a blood test. Fingers crossed to you!!
