I know that since I've had, ahem, relations, that I COULD be pregnant.
I also know that I can pick up a pregnancy test at the Dollar Tree for, yep, you guessed it, $1. (I've actually suggested that one. ;)
And I know that if all else fails, I could, and perhaps, should contact my doctor.
ALL that said, LOL, here is my question.
My period should have started on March 26, and ended yesterday. It has not started. I have NEVER missed a period in my life, except for when I was pregnant/nursing. NEVER. I am about as regular as they come.
My fertile period was from 3/8-3/12, we had relations on 3/7 and 3/14, which were outside of the fertile days. (**I do realize that something freakish could have caused me to be fertile outside of my scheduled fertile days, thus, my next statement.)
I DID take a pregnancy test Tuesday, which would have been the 4 day of my missed period, day 32 of my typically 28-29 day cycles. Negative.
AND, I have a yearly appt. scheduled with my gyne next week (coincidentally) so I have that base covered too.
I am at a loss as to why I am not getting a period. I am not particularly stressed, and I've never missed a period from stress before. I am not otherwise ill. No new medications. No change in exercise level (which is not much - lol) And unfortunately, I did not lose a pound. And I'm far from super skinny. I'm a little on the chunky side. :) I just turned 38, and have had no signs up to this point of perimenopause. Completely normal cycles up to this point. My mom didn't enter menopause until her early 50's.
Have you ever missed a period for some reason that you never identified? Or are there some possible reasons for missing a period that I haven't mentioned?
Have any of you gotten a false negative on a pregnancy test? I know they happen. I am just interested in what your experience was if you had a false negative.
**Just to clarify, I am not looking for anyone to tell me whether I am pregnant or not. Just looking for your experiences with missed periods, and false negative pregnancy tests...
UPDATED - Period came last night... no idea why it was late. But it's here now. Thanks everyone!
No, Theresa, last month, I was right on time, to the exact day... I had unexplainable heartburn last month... remember??? LOL And *luckily* my dress is empire waisted with a flowing skirt, so if, and I use that term very incredulously, I do happen to be pregnant (which I'm SURE I'm not), I do think I could still pull off the dress. 8)
As for stress about wedding planning, it PALES in comparison to other things I've experienced, even in recent years, as far as being stressful. Sure, I'm a little stressed, thinking a lot about what I need to do, etc., but it's as much excitement as stress. I kind of enjoy it, actually. I've been through some stuff over the last 5 years that was insanely stressful, both emotionally and physically, but never missed a period. That's my only reason for being hesitant to attribute this to stress. I'm probably going to test again either tonight or in the morning. See what happens this time...

Well, growing up I never had regular periods due to being active and doing sports and stuff. Have you been working out a lot more, running more, or doing any extra physical activity? Just a thought...

Giiiiirl mine has been SO messed up since my guy popped the question!! Remember me freaking out about the possibility of being on my period come wedding day, because the dates were getting closer and closer? This month mine came four days EARLY (forgot about but bought those softcups for next month, weren't you the one telling me about them?) ANYWAY, even if you're not feeling stressed, your body could be telling you otherwise... you really do have a lot on your plate right now!! But if you'd LIKE to be pregnant, fingers crossed for you mama :) Let us know how it goes!!

I got about 6 false negatives with my third baby. I was buying the cheap dollar tree tests. I went to walmart and bought an early response test and it came out positive. (I had taken two dollar store ones about an hour earlier, both were neg) I would try a different brand of test. Good luck.

I personally have never experienced this although I have been late before. However, I do know a lady who was on birth control but thought she was pregnant even though she got her period. She took a test, negative. Next month, period again she she still felt she was pregnant so she did test #2, negative. Told her hubby again "I think I'm pregnant but the test says I am not". He basically told her that she was on birth control and the test said she wasn't so she wasn't (same as he told her the month before). She went to the doctor anyway...he did a test and said "you are not pregnant". She still felt she was pregnant so next month, she did a test again (still negative) and went back to the doctor and she insisted they draw her blood for a more accurate test. He said..."if you are you can't be more than 1 month along since you were not when you were here last month". Later he said "congratulations, you are pregnant". Due to her insistance of feeling pregnant sooner they did a quick ultrasound and she was 12 or 13 weeks along. Tell me again how women don't know and a doctor knows best when you're due?!!!

your fertility changes as you age just like everything else, there is no set age, and it doesn't take menopause for changes to start. For example I was very regular in my teens, had 3 kids, no problem, 8 years later I'm not yet 30 and my cycle was all over the place and I had 2 lost pregnancies while trying for baby number 4. It could be nothing more than normal changes, it could be diet, exercise, stress or pregnancy. I'd save your time and money and just have your doc do a blood test.

I think its b/c of the month of February. Mine was TOTALLY messed up this month. I was 5 days late this month and also took a pt test just to make sureI wasn't. It finally showed up 5 days late.
Of course as you know you could always go buy another test and pee again :)

Did a little research and found that dollar store pregnancy tests are not as sensitive as some others. Here is the website where I found that info. Scroll down until you find the chart.

I had a false negative with my daughter. It was negative for about a week after my period was supposed to start...and then one day...positive!! I just kept buying the dollar store tests so as not to spend a bunch of money.
I was also going to ask if you have changed up your exercise routine or lost a significant amount of weight? Those things changed my period too.

I did have a false negative with my daughter. Took tests a week, two weeks, and three weeks after my missed period all resulting in a false negative, even at 3 weeks when I went into my OB/GYN it was negative. Finally at week four I got a postive and so did the OB/GYN, and it showed that I was almost a month along already when we did an ultrasound at that appiontmen.
Then again my hormons and periods have always been anything but normal (even when on birth control, which seemed to make things worse). From the last day of my period to the start of my next is is about 32-38 days, but has been as little as 25 days to as long as 58 days between periods. My OB/GYN likes to call my hormons crazy freaks who won't settle down, even at age 27 they thought I might be perimenopause but after 6 months my hormons change and went back to "normal" for no known reason. So there is a lot of identified craziness that happens a lot for me.

I missed a period after DD and was VERY regular up until that point all my life. I felt pregnant, I looked a little pregnant, but I had NOT been with Dh (or anyone else! LOL) for over a month (he was away TDY on travel) so unless it was the second coming, there was no way I could have been pregnant. Ended up feeling a small mass in my abdominal area after being about 2 weeks late and all - pregnancy tests (yes, I did still test in case it was a fluke case where I had already been preggo for a month or something). I went to the ER when I felt the mass and started getting some pain in the area, afraid I had a tumor and it turned out I had a luteal cyst on my ovary...first time ever...and it really made symptoms similar to pregnancy. I was on day 60-something before it shrunk or ruptured (no severe pain, just a few days of intense cramping) and then my cycle came 2 weeks later. Just a possiblity?

There are so many things that could be going on. I agree with the idea of Feb being a wierd month and also that you don't necessarily know if your body is feeling stress about the impending nuptials.
I would say just put it behind you for now and tell the nurse when they bring you in for your appointment next week!

I "think" I remember that you are getting married soon...sometimes I think even if you don't think you're stressed, your body may actually be...just a thought. I missed a period last summer...totally random, have no idea why...used bc, not sick, not stressed, not nursing, NOT pregnant and I am younger than you. Only time I have ever missed a period and not been pregnant and/or nursing. I had my period the next month like normal. Just happens sometimes...but I guess I think your body COULD feel stressed or actually be fighting an illness and doing such a good job you don't even know it...

could very easily be a false negative... your body has to produce a certain level of a specific hormone in order to get a positive. And since we are all just slightly different.... you might have just tested too early.
On the flip side I was/am pretty regular myself. But have twice now missed periods since my last baby. Both times were because of stress although I didn't really think I was THAT stressed at the time.
Best wishes.

This is how it went right before I found out I was pregnant...
My period was a month late. Took a gazillion pregnancy tests all were negative. When my period came it was far from normal. Then a few weeks after that I found out I was pregnant.
Weird huh.
Besides my personal experience (which I only have one kid so im not that experienced, lol) all I can tell you is maybe it is stress. I am one of those people that never feels stressed out but my body does. So maybe it has something to do with how close the wedding is?
If i'm mistaken and the wedding already passed then maybe it has something to do with the wedding night, lol. ;)

I had almost a dozen false negatives between 6 and 10wks pregnant!!!! Then at 10weeks, 2days I suddenly got two positives! Now I'm almost 18weeks. Dr's can't answer WHY I got so many false negatives either! I tried 3 different brands, First Response, a drug store brand and I can't remember the 3rd.

I have only missed 1 period in my life, other than being pregnant and it was in January...I broke my elbow had surgery and was on a TON of medication...I am thinking it was the trauma, stress and medication that threw my cycle out of whack? IDK?
~Are you sure you aren't having stress over the wedding planning? Sometimes we can have stress and just not be realizing it's actual effects, ya know what I mean?

I had a false negative with my first baby. I had irregular cycles, so when I was late I thought it was because of stress (I was in college and it was finals). I took the pregnancy test and it was negative, so I didn't think any more about it. Then a month later, I went to the doctor because I was having stomach problems (I didn't have morning sickness, I just didn't have an appetite, didn't feel like eating, and when I did eat my stomach wouldn't react very well to it). I thought it was indigestion or irritable bowel syndrome. Turns out it was a baby! :-)

The only times I was late was due to pregnancy or ovarian cyst. My cycles were always dead on, along with ovulation, the same every month, until the times I got pregnant (which for some reason, was always a super late ovulation - normally, I'd O around day 9 or 10 - when pregnant, I O'd between day 17-21). So, I always had negative pregnancy tests because I'd been testing when I thought I was late, but I was really pregnant but not enough to test positively.
Not sure if anything I typed makes sense? But with my son, I took at least 11 tests all negative, called OB at 2wks late and got positive blood test that day with beta numbers for conceiving just 3-4 days prior.
Good luck!

I've never had a false negative, however when trying for my first, my body skipped a cycle. I, too, have been regular my entire life since I first began menstruating. I was so puzzled and angry since I was hoping to be pregnant. It was just a fluke. My doctor had to give me an injection of progesterone to "jump start" my cycle and bring on my period. It was the strangest thing and hasn't happened again since. I was pregnant two months later, so it didn't really deter my chances of becoming pregnant.

Yes you could still be pregnant with a test showing a negative, just because you take a test on the days leading to your period or days after doesn't mean that you aren't pregnant.I took many tests till the 5th or 6th one showed I was prego upto a week after my period was to began. The only periods I missed were due to pregnancy & breastfeeding, not stress, not medications nothing was a regular to the day
