I live in Mill Housing, and I feel so blessed for it. I feel safe letting the kids play out side, live next to great people, and out house is about 6 years old. The bad thing about it....I HATE the carpet!!! I know I know I should complain, but they are a cheap fiber, light blue are is the same carpets that was in the house when the first family moved in. They get so dirty so fast. We are having family in this summer (the In-laws and my brother and his family) and I would LOVE to get the carpets looking better whill my husband takes the kids to go see his family over spring break. My Issue is do we hire someone to come clean them or would it be better to jsut get a Rug DR and to it my self.
Now I have done both in the past. My husband think I should do it, but its just so much work and all the trips to empty the dirty watter kills me!! My complant with bringing someone in to do it is that I fear by the time the first wave a fam get here (in jun) that it will jsut be dirty all over agin. SO, I am taking a poll!!! What do you very wise woman (And men too) think I should do? If it where you what would you do? If the rug DR can you think of some wat to take the back breaking work out of it?
Thanks So much and Blessings to all!!!
PS- The house is 2 floors. there is heavy dirt where most people walk from the front door to the kitchen and chocolet stains in my daughters rooms...and the steps!

What can I do next?

Look up a company called MyZeroRez.com and look for someone in your area. I had them come out last year to work on my 12 yr old carpet and they really got the carpet clean. It was even fluffy again - even the stairs.

I found that the RugDr worked well enough but they leave a residue that attracts dirt on the carpet. If you go that route - look at it before renting to make sure it's clean.

Zero Rez was well worth the money -

Have someone else do it and make a rule to remove shoes. Get a big basket and a sign that says no shoes please or place shoes here :)

I love, love, LOVE my Hoover Steam Vac. It's got the rotating spin brushes with varying speeds so I can really clean the ground in areas. I've tried just about all carpet cleaners and cleaning services, and the DIY Hoover was by far the best value with the best result.

Rug Doctors really suck...just saying. We have rentend one before and it didn't make any difference. I would either buy one, we have a Bissel and love it, or for about the same cost you should be able to hire it done.
