Poop Patty Trauma and Drama

I’m hoping against hope that all you smart mamas might be able to help. My daughter (2.5 years) eats a whole food organic diet. Her diet consists primarily of quinoa, broccoli, carrots, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, spinach, yogurt with added probiotic and flax seed, basically lots of veggies and fiber, she isn’t a big fruit eater but I keep trying. Here is the problem, for about 6 months now, she poops sometimes 4-7 times a day, but only tiny amounts (tablespoon or teaspoon only) so potty training has been exceptionally difficult. She evacuates such a small amount at a time that it doesn’t even fall into the potty so she keeps a little "poop patty" in her cheeks and it causes pretty severe rash sometimes which adds to the potty training drama. I’ve been advised to give her more fruit but she is a tough eater, sometimes she will eat dried cranberries and raisins but only if she is in the mood. I’ve tried apricots and prunes also but she refuses. I give her babyfood prunes with oatmeal and I’ve also given her an herbal supplement but nothing seems to really truly work. I’ve tried miralax in the past but it just makes her body dependant on it.
So, do any of you smart mama’s have any advice that may help me on my quest? Or perhaps you have a great naturopathic doctor to recommend or a regular doc who is more holistically based? Your help is very much appreciated.
Thank you!

It is very important that along with the fibers she gets enough water through drinking. Infact just fibers have the opposite effect than expected: the make hard stools, dry and difficult to pass. I think she feels the need to go because the fibers "scratch" her bowel giving her the impression that it's that time, but then the poop is too hard and scaly to make a whole, moist piece (sorry for the description, very disgusting, I know), so it comes out broken up just like you say. Too much fiber and too few water is often the cause of IBM in the future adult life too, so my advice (on personal experience) is that she drinks lots of water and real fruit smoothies (pear, kiwi, strawberry and banana for example) to have her stool soft and easy to pass. That will make it more comfortable to go and she will make friends with the potty more easily. Good luck!!!

I really wish you had spelled that poop pattie..... LOL

Have you tried adding water and fiber to the diet and possibly increasing the flax oil?

White grape 50% mixed with water will do the trick, as will pears and/or pear juice. How much water does she drink every day? Too much milk will constipate as well.

Have you tried pear juice? The miralax hasn't worked well for my 2 1/2 year old either.
