Hi Moms, this is a little embarassing, but I'm looking for some tips. I'm taking my son swimming now, but haven't figured out how either not to get razor burn on my bikini line, or how to balance appearances between waxing. Is there a secret or trick that anyone can share, so that I can look good and be comfortable in my swimsuits? Help!

What can I do next?

Makeupalley.com has an aspirin recipe that works and I don't think it includes vaseline which can cause clogged pores. I used to get the razor rash every time, but I started getting my bikini area done with the laser hair removal. I found a laser hair removal place that only charges one appt at a time instead of having to buy a "package" that cost hundreds of dollars. Even one session of laser hair removal helped. The hair grows back thinner and finer, so it doesn't cause a rash any more. I can't remember how much they charged, but it wasn't outrageous. Totally worth it. The shop I used is in Chanhassen called Refine. Ask for Deb Maxxa. I think they have a website, too.

My swim suit has a little skirt so I dont have to worry about that area! There are ones that are like shorts, too. I dont like to show too much skin, so the skirt helps. :)

I shave evertday with condtioner and apply cold wash clothes right after so the pores close..even rubbing alcohol wipes if you can handles 5 sec of sting from hellBut it is so worth the effort. On te other hand if your are going on a last minute trip to the local swim place with the kiddo in tow then you probably will not be doing much sun bathing so as long as you are not having MAJOR issues, I say just go..in the water no one can see below your waist and playing pool side you can wear a cute little wrap or shorts (another reason to shop..LOL)

Why shave at all? I use Nair for bikini area and it works great! No bumps, no nicks, and very smooth!

THis is going to sound weird, but my sister uses special shaving cream called Bump Fighter-- it is actually made for black men's faces.... she swears by it and I think gets it just at Wal Mart or Target. I am sure an Internet search would find you some results if you are interested.

Hello J.! This is a great question that I wish I had found out the answer to years ago! Anyway, here's the scoop. First start with a really good razor with new blades (not the disposable kind and preferably with three blades. exfoliate the area first with a loofa or washcloth (a lot of razor bumps are caused by bacteria and this helps to reduce it a lot) then use conditioner instead of shaving cream as it glides much better. Do not go over the same area again and again because this will also cause irritation. When done, apply ice to the area and then plain old deordorant. There is also a GREAT product on the market called Princereigns (www.princereigns.com) shaving gel. It will help prevent and heal razor bumps and ingrown hair. Hope this helps! Oh one more thing, if you do get bad bumps and need another quick cure, mix plain old asprin crushed up and add visine to create a paste, apply to the area for about 10 minutes and rinse; this is an old swimsuit model trick, it never worked that great for me, but I have heard others say it totally did for them.

Bikini Zone can be purchased at Wal-Mart, possibly Target. It is a topical gel/lotion that takes that burn and rash away. Also, try a conditioner like Pantene-put it on the bikini area, let it sit for about 20 sec's while you're in the shower and then shave it off. It really works.
