Pediatrician in Chicago - Open to Alternative Vaccine Schedule

A few months ago a mother posted this question for Des Plaines. It got such good response, I thought I would try for Chicago. Our pediatrician has been great, but as I have done more research and formed more opinions about flu shots and vaccines, he has NOT been supportive. I actually got "into it" a little with him on the last visit. This is not how I want to spend my child's doctor's appts. I really appreciate any doctor's names that you can suggest for me. We live on the north side of the city, so the loop is as far south as I would like to drive.

What can I do next?

I use Dr Tarnowski at Child & adolescent Health Assoc. - 1030 N. Clark (Right next to Dave & Busters on Clark)###-###-#### -Let me say she is the nicest pediatrician, and she does not believe that there is anything harmful in the vaccines, but she knows it is the parents choice ultimately whether to vaccinate or not. She supports the parents decision, but she also presents you with a lot of information and as a pediatrician, she also believes that the vaccines are necessary. I would think that most peds do. I have asked if we could delay some of the immunizations and I hve so far received support. She doesnt make you feel like a terrible mother for asking either, like some peds will.

Hope this helps.

The pediatrician group that I use is excellent. They are at Northside Suburban Petiactric's at 4801 W Peterson. The phone # is 773 777-kids.

Doctor Peera and Docter Kim are great!

I hope this helps you out.

I second the Homefirst response. They also have seminars that talk about educating yourself before vaccinations so you can make the right decisions for yourself and children. When they do vaccinate they use those low in thimerisol and other questionable additives.

Child and Adolescent Health on Clark and Division in the same building as Fitness Formula, Dr. "T" Trinowski, DO (sp?) is very open to an alternate schedule, she is a wonderful doctor and so great with kids. I have three other friends that see her, however their staff has a bit to be desired...but we are there to see the doc!

Hi R.,

I highly suggest Homefirst Health Services. They have locations in Rolling Meadows & Chicago. Here is their website & number: www.homefirst.com ###-###-####
I'm currently 6 months pregnant and myself, hubby and daughter-to-be will be taken care of by them.

They were highly recommended by 2 different people I know, and I'm so glad I looked into it and switched over to be under care with them.

Dr. Laura Mikhail of Child and Adolescent Health Associates (1030 N. Clark) respected our decision to use a delayed schedule (Dr. S. Cave's) and did not make us feel like bad parents (unlike Dr. Clark of this practice). We've also seen Dr. T and Wilson and we liked them a lot.

I can't recommend a doctor but would like to make an observation. Immunizations and flu shots are two distinct issues. If you do not immunize your child you may have trouble getting them into school, depending on the school and the extent to which you are departing from the usual schedule of immunizations. However, flu shots are absolutely optional and there should be no need for argument about them - simply say no if you don't want them. Many experts, even doctors, would agree that flu shots are unnecessary unless a person or child is in an exceptionally high-risk group. They are not a panacea; they can only protect against a small fraction of the flu viruses that are out there.
