My husband and I are currently looking for an MD in the Des Plaines area (or a30 min drive area) that is ok with doing an alternative vaccine schedule. Does anyone know of one? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Have you thought of HomeFirst?

http://www.homefirst.com/

I also recommend Dr. Minkus

My first son was partially immunized, because I was still learning about it. My second son was not immunized at all, but he's 23 now and will get one or two immunizations for a trip to Bolivia, even though I'm not comfortable with it, but I got a homeopathic remedy to give him to help him deal with it better.

We take our daughter to a Familiy Physician at Loyola in Maywood (I believe this is within your driving time). His name is Dr. James Judge and not only is he ok with our alternative vaccine schedule, but he has been very supportive of our exclusive breastfeeding thus far. I hope this helps.

You can also try Homefirst. They have several offices in/around Chicago. Try their website and you can even buy the book "Education before you Vaccinate" which I just bought yesterday at the Naperville office for $15. They also offer free seminars. Good luck.

Hi A.,
Homefirst is in the western suburbs and they will honor an alternative vaccine schedule. Dr. Isenstein is the head MD. I don´t have their number off hand, but if youu google HomeFirst I am sure you will find them. Dr. Elvolve is also one who will honor it in Libertyville as well as Dr. Ettner is Evanston. I hope this helps. If you want more information go to www.birthlink.com and they should have alternative MD´s listed.

Dr. Kittaka. He's out of Elmhurst Hospital. 1-###-###-####. He's been my family doctor for 2o years. He's compassionate, up to date with every new medicine, ailment, and anything you will need in a doctor. I can't speak highly enough of him. He's also very easy to "get to" on 290 East to Chicago and get off at York rd South. Turn left to the center of town and left at the intersection before the tracks. Then left on Schiller Ave and the medical building is on the right just past the new red condos. It may sound like a lot, but believe me, it's easy...plus. the hospital is on the same street about 3 block further on Schiller. If anything were wrong with your child and Dr. Kittaka needed him/her in the hospital, you'de be there in 2 minutes! I've lived in 3 different towns, 20 miles away, and continued seeing Dr.Kittaka. He's great.

A.,
Dr. Minkus through ENH advocates an alternative vaccination schedule and supports parents who choose not to vaccinate (like me). His # is ###-###-####. He has 2 offices - one in Skokie and one in Lincolnwood. He is a gentle, loving doctor who believes in holistic and alternative treatments along with a modern clinical approach. Let me know if you have any questions.

I second the thumbs up for HOMEFIRST - they have an office in Rolling Meadows.
They are not into vaccines at all, and are very natural across the board.
I am currently entering a more traditional pediatrician setting(Woodfield Pediatrics), and although the docs and I don't see eye to eye on the vaccine thing, they are willing to discuss the process and are have not strong armed me to do what I do not want for my children.

Fred Ettner at St. Francis (mentioned by someone else, just not by name) in Evanston won't do them any other way. Our son is 5 months and won't get his first vaccine until 7 months, by the doctor's choice. Only one vaccine per visit too. Like the previous poster said, he is truly WONDERFUL! It is great to have a doctor who treats the whole family (he saw me yesterday as well) and really takes time with his patients. Calls get transferred to his cell after hours, you always talk to him and not a nurse if you have a question, etc. It would definitely be worth the drive for you!

i agree Homefirst will be your best bet (especially since they have a lot of offices to choose from.)
My ped recommened Dr Minkus to me also......yet we (my ped & I)have grown to 'tolerate' each other LOL. Actually he quit bugging me about vax's, though I have no doubt I am some of the talk of their office lol

I would have stayed with Homefirst except my kids see medical specialists & with HMO it was too difficult.

I am impressed/surprised at the responses here.... WTG girls!

A.-I just responded to another mom looking for the same thing and recommendations to my GP in Evanston. He did at home births for a number of years and now is a GP out of St. Francis. His number is ###-###-####. He is truly a doctor in every aspects of what a doctor should be. I was supposed to have by 4th child;d at home but because my water had broken (I waited for 3 days) my midwife I had to go to the hospital.

After she was born I did refused all vaccinations, shots, eye drops, etc...the PED there gave me a very difficult time and refused to release Catherine until I had a Dr. to see her the next day and assume care. I called his office on my midwife's recommendation (she was a patient of his when she was younger) and he called me on my cell in the hospital, assumed care fore my daughter and saw us the next day. he supports whatever decisions you make in its entirety.

Hi! Our children (2 yrs. old and 10 months) go to an excellent family practice doctor who specializes in treating children. She is ok doing an alternative vaccine schedule and she is very pro-homeopathic and natural remedies. The only one in the city! Unfortunately she doesn't accept insurance. You should make an apt for a free consulation. She's wonderful with children and very knowledgeable. Good luck!

I know one in Libertyville, I drive from Palatine! I love the Dr. and his staff! I actually opted out of most of the vaccines and he was OK with it! Also He recommends you educate yourself about you and your childs health with tons of resources! One book he recommends is What your Docotor May not tell you about Vaccines.

Anyhow, here is his info. then you can decide, I know it is not close... but it could be a start. Dr. George Elvove 1-###-###-####

Good Luck!
