Seeking Holistic Pediatrician

Anyone know of a good pediatrician in the North Dallas/Carrollton/Plano area who is holistic (or VERY open-minded) and preferably female? I like my pediatrician but would prefer someone who is okay if I occasionally want to do something that isn't mainstream. For example, my son was a preemie and has had problems breastfeeding. I wanted to try cranio sacral therapy but he looked at me like I was crazy for thinking that that would help him with breastfeeding. I just think that working to heal the whole body can help more than just treating the superficial symptoms that I can see. I also want to do vaccinations on a different schedule, but he is pushing me to start earlier than I'd like. He also really pressures me to have my son weighing certain weights by certain dates, which stresses me out more than I already am. My son has gained 3 pounds in a little less than three months, which is great so I don't know why he puts me on this weight gaining schedule. Anyhow, any information would be helpful. Thanks.

So What Happened?

Well, it's been a long time since I asked for help, but we finally went to our 4 month check-up with our new found pediatrician--Dr. Bain. 16 people ended up referring me to her and she was covered under my insurance and everything. It's a little bit of a drive. But she seems to be JUST what I was looking for! She has a lot of the same ideas as me and is so open. Thanks mommas for your help. What a relief that is to me. I can't say thanks enough:)

Dr Debriah Bain she is in Frisco but she is worth it. She is all holistic unless medication needs to be used, she understands how important medications are but believes that the body when "fueled" correctly can take care of most things itself. www.healthykidspediatrics.com

Dr. Bain at Healthy Kids Pediatrics is a mainstream ped, but she's very flexible with vaccines. A lot of autism parents go to her when their regular peds give them stink eye over delayed or partial vaccine schedules.

She pushes Juice Plus and some other products heavily, which I don't like at all, but if you just go to her for well-child visits and ignore her kooky talks about how there are no longer any nutrients in the soil, you should be able to be the boss of the vaccines.

By the way, smart, smart Mommy! We lost our son to autism immediately following his MMR.

Anyone reading this who is also interested in delaying vaccines, stay away from Allen Pediatrics. They recently refused treatment to a very sick autistic child who was behind on vaccines. And Centennial Pediatrics in Frisco charges an additional fee of $20 or $25 to parents who do not vaccinate on schedule. Just sharing!

I want to tell you how awesome of a mom you are. It is so refreshing to hear a mom fight for their childs health instead of listening to their doctor. My son is 7 and has autism. He had 27 shot by the time he was 14 months! He was a "normal" baby until then. We do cranio and its been fantastic for us. We have been doing it for 6 years. Be sure you find a theapist who is HIGHLY certified. A "diplomat certified is the best". There is a guy named Kenny Piercy in Dallas . He is FANTASTIC and a woman who you would LOVE named Doris Weiner in Dallas and a woman named Suzanne in Dallas at Integrative Pediatric Therapy (she is hard to get into! But we LOVE HER TOO). Kenny's number is ###-###-####. Doris number is ###-###-####. She is a wonderful Healer. I think there are only 6 diplomat certified in Texas. We also go to a homeopath in Dallas. He is medical doc but only does homeopathy. His name is Dr. Dan Cook ###-###-####. It is so difficult to find a ped. that will listen to you but they are out there. The one we go to is in Frisco and even though she doesn't make us vacinate I am not too crazy about her. We really don't need her for much since we see Dr. Cook if he is ever sick. I hear great things about Willow Bend Pediatrics. I have a lot of friends who go there and they are understanding about relaxed vacine schedules. I know there is a Dr. Frank & a dr. Mehendele and Dr. Sickler. I believe their address is Communications Drive which is off Windhaven near the tollway (parker & Tollway area). You may want to google them.
Good Luck J. and email me if you have any questions. That baby is soooo lucky to have you!!!!!!!!

My pediatrician has been really open minded and helpful with my two boys. He is a father of 4 and his wife is an OB/GYN. My boys are both small, 5% or less, and he has never mentioned anything about it. As long as they are growing, he is happy. I have also postponed some vaccines for my youngest. He told that he would wait until 18 months or 2 years instead of doing it at 15 months if I had any concerns. Also, I prefer to not medicate and he has given me some great ideas on what to do more naturally. He is in Grapevine, so that my be far for you, but just in case you need another option. Dr. W. Good for you following your gut and finding what you and your child need. Our former pediatrician constantly disregarded my concerns and "gut" about issues with my son and wanted to start a steroid treatment program. A friend recommended Dr. Bain as well and I saw her immediately. She helped us get to the root cause of my son's issues and he's in the best health without the use of steroids! She has recommended wonderful supplements and reading materials for me that help me to be more educated and proactive as a mother. I feel like I'm taking my children to a mom when we go to the doctor and finding her has been the biggest blessing!

We have opted to spread out vaccinations and not give combination vaccines. She has complete flexibility on that. I wish you the best for you and your son!

Hi J.,
I have friends that have done the cranio sacral thing and it has helped with allergies, acid reflux, etc... so I believe it!!! I commend you for wanting to try non-medicine therapies! We use a dr for our kiddos that is in south Allen. She is a family dr but VERY in tune with Children. She did her residency at Childrens and is SO good with them. My 2.5 yr old loves her even if he has to get a shot! Her name is Maria Flaquer at Crescent Medical Center. We moved to Richardson and still go to her. She is open to you wanting to do what is best for your children. I have mentioned doing alternate therapies and she has not been critical at all. God Bless, L.

I too have preemie twin boys. I know the frustrations. We see a holistic doctor that has done WONDERS with my children. She is not a pedi but I use her along with my pedi. Her name is Dr. Sue Hegel and she is in Frisco. She has a gift. She is very intuative. My sons are two and she did cranial sacral work on one. She also worked to purge a vaccine toxin that my son had as an infant. He was different from the day he had the vaccine and after a bad reaction to it. I now have a happy child that doesn't fight sleep. His nervous system was on overlaod from the toxin. I still believe vaccines are important. I would still get my children vaccinated but you are right, preemies might need them a little later. My boys were born at 33 weeks so I could have waited 7 weeks to adjust for their adjusted age. Never thought of that! Anyway, try out Dr. Sue and hang in there!

I would recommend that you be careful with your current pediatrician. It sounds like if your son's not meeting the "typical weight" marks that he'd like that he'll eventually get around to enouraging you to substitute bottle feeding for breastfeeding. I'm a soon to be first time mom (due any day now) and just concluded my search for a mother and baby friendly pediatrician, one that won't force a specific vaccination schedule on us and one that is very pro-breastfeeding. Although I'm farther south than where you're looking I felt it might be worth it to still recommend the two doctors that were recommended to me, one of which I've decided to go with (Dr. Agrawal).

PGV Pediatrics – Anuradha Agrawal, ###-###-####
Alex Bekker (Homeopathy), ###-###-####

Both of these pediatricians are located in Dallas. I hope that you find a pediatrician who you're more comfortable with and who will listen and work with you and your little one!

I, like you, wanted a more holistic approach in a pediatrician for our son. But, I searched high and low and for some reason, I wasn't able to find one in the Dallas area. But, I did find a great alternative. His name is Dr. Alex Bekker ###-###-####. He's a family practitioner medical doctor, but he practices mainly homeopathy. He will weigh and measure, check ears, etc. as part of your child's check-up, and VERY supportive of your personal decisions especially with the vaccinations. My son is almost 3 and loves Dr. Bekker and sees him only every six months for his check-up and only a couple times when he was sick (homeopathy works and yes, he's only been sick twice). My son only went to a traditional pediatrician, one my midwife suggested, and I still got the lecture on vaccines. He was tolerant, but still very rude. I've studied how vaccines work for the past 16 years and understand that delaying or not getting them at all may be a good choice for families. We chose not to vaccinate (you are NOT required to by Texas law) and my son is truly the healthiest child I know. A runny nose in our house is an anomoly! Dr. Bekker's philosophy is such that if he sees something that would require medical intervention then he will do so, otherwise he will help the body do what it knows to do--heal itself. Good luck!

you do right to question and research vaccines here is an eye opener, read fillers and other ingredients used plus baxter has been fined in several contries for their contaminated swine flu vaccine (they make other vaccines)

Vaccine May Be More Dangerous Than Swine Flu

Tuesday, July 7, 2009 9:54 AM

By: Dr. Russell Blaylock Article Font Size

An outbreak of swine flu occurred in Mexico this spring that eventually affected 4,910 Mexican citizens and resulted in 85 deaths. By the time it spread to the United States, the virus caused only mild cases of flu-like illness.

Thanks to air travel and the failure of public health officials to control travel from Mexico, the virus spread worldwide. Despite predictions of massive numbers of deaths and the arrival of doomsday, the virus has remained a relatively mild disease, something we know happens each year with flu epidemics.

Worldwide, there have only been 311 deaths out of 70,893 cases of swine flu. In the United States, 27,717 cases have resulted in 127 deaths. Every death is a tragedy, but such a low death rate should not be the basis of a draconian government policy.

It is helpful to recall that the Centers for Disease Control with the collusion of the media, constantly tell us that 36,000 people die from the flu each year, a figure that has been shown to be a lie. In this case, we are talking about 300 plus deaths for the entire world.

This virus continues to be an enigma for virologists. In the April 30, 2009 issue of Nature, a virologist was quoted as saying,“Where the hell it got all these genes from we don’t know.” Extensive analysis of the virus found that it contained the original 1918 H1N1 flu virus, the avian flu virus (bird flu), and two new H3N2 virus genes from Eurasia. Debate continues over the possibility that swine flu is a genetically engineered virus.

Naturally, vaccine manufacturers have been in a competitive battle to produce the first vaccine. The main contenders have been Baxter Pharmaceuticals and Novartis Pharmaceuticals, the latter of which recently acquired the scandal-ridden Chiron vaccine company. Both of these companies have had agreements with the World Health Organization to produce a pandemic vaccine.

The Baxter vaccine, called Celvapan, has had fast track approval. It uses a new vero cell technology, which utilizes cultured cells from the African green monkey. This same animal tissue transmits a number of vaccine-contaminating viruses, including the HIV virus.

The Baxter company has been associated with two deadly scandals. The first event occurred in 2006 when hemophiliac components were contaminated with HIV virus and injected in tens of thousands of people, including thousands of children. Baxter continued to release the HIV contaminated vaccine even after the contamination was known.

The second event occurred recently when it was discovered that Baxter had released a seasonal flu vaccine containing the bird flu virus, which would have produced a real world pandemic, to 18 countries. Fortunately, astute lab workers in the Czech Republic discovered the deadly combination and blew the whistle before a worldwide disaster was unleashed.

Despite these two deadly events, WHO maintains an agreement with Baxter Pharmaceuticals to produce the world’s pandemic vaccine.

Novartis, the second contender, also has an agreement with WHO for a pandemic vaccine. Novartis appears to have won the contract, since their vaccine is near completion. What is terrifying is that these pandemic vaccines contain ingredients, called immune adjuvants that a number of studies have shown cause devastating autoimmune disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and lupus.

Animal studies using this adjuvant have found them to be deadly. A study using 14 guinea pigs found that when they were injected with the special adjuvant, only one animal survived. A repeat of the study found the same deadly outcome.

So, what is this deadly ingredient? It is called squalene, a type of oil. The Chiron company, maker of the deadly anthrax vaccine, makes an adjuvant called MF-59 which contains two main ingredients of concern—squalene and gp120. A number of studies have shown that squalene can trigger all of the above-mentioned autoimmune diseases when injected.

The MF-59 adjuvant has been used in several vaccines. These vaccines, including tetanus and diphtheria, are the same vaccines frequently associated with adverse reactions.

I reviewed a number of studies on this adjuvant and found something quite interesting. Several studies done on human test subjects found MF-59 to be a very safe immune adjuvant. But when I checked to see who did these studies, I found—to no surprise—that they were done by the Novartis Pharmaceutical Company and Chiron Pharmaceutical Company, which have merged. They were all published in “prestigious” medical journals. Also, to no surprise, a great number of studies done by independent laboratories and research institutions all found a strong link between MF-59 and autoimmune diseases.

Squalene in vaccines has been strongly linked to the Gulf War Syndrome. On August 1991, Anthony Principi, Secretary of Veterans Affairs admitted that soldiers vaccinated with the anthrax vaccine from 1990 to 1991 had an increased risk of 200 percent in developing the deadly disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease. The soldiers also suffered from a number of debilitating and life-shortening diseases, such as polyarteritis nodosa, multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus, transverse myelitis (a neurological disorder caused by inflammation of the spinal cord), endocarditis (inflammation of the heart’s inner lining), optic neuritis with blindness and glomerulonephritis (a type of kidney disease).

The second ingredient, and one that greatly concerns me, is called gp120, a glycoprotein. Researchers found when it was mixed with squalene, the glycoprotein became strongly antigenic—that is, it produced a powerful and prolonged immune response to the vaccination. In fact, their studies show that with each dose, the intense immune reaction lasts over a year.

Now for the shocker—the glycoprotein-gp120, a major component of MF-59 vaccine adjuvant, is the same protein fragment isolated from the HIV virus that is responsible for the rapid dementia seen in AIDS patients.

Studies have shown that when gp120 is taken up by the microglia cells in the brain, it causes intense inflammation and makes the brain subject to excitotoxic damage—a process called immunoexcitotoxicity. This is also the cause of the MS and optic neuritis associated with vaccines that contain MF-59.

So, how would the gp120 get into the brain? Studies of other immune adjuvants using careful tracer techniques have shown that they routinely enter the brain following vaccination. What most people do not know, even the doctors who recommend the vaccines, is that most such studies by pharmaceutical companies observe the patients for only one to two weeks following vaccination—these types of reactions may take months or even years to manifest.

It is obvious that the vaccine manufacturers stand to make billions of dollars in profits from this WHO/government-promoted pandemic. Novartis, the maker of the new pandemic vaccine, recently announced that they would not give free vaccines to impoverished nations—everybody pays.

One must keep in mind that once the vaccine is injected, there is little you can do to protect yourself—at least by conventional medicine. It will mean a lifetime of crippling illness and early death.

There are much safer ways to protect oneself from this flu virus, such as higher doses of vitamin D3, selective immune enhancement using supplements, and a good diet.

Are we glad we found a new Holistic pediatrician in Plano. We went to Deb Bain's office but the appointment wait time is long. On our drive back we came across Natural Pediatrics on Custer Rd and Spring Creek Parkway. The doctor Dr. Lata Shridharan seems to have come from Children's Medical Center. Her other credentials (Stanford) etc and patient reviews on Healthgrades.com and Vitals.com were wow. So we researched her website (txnaturalpediatrics.com) that night. We were surprised to get same day sick appointment for lil Grace the very next day. Wait time was 5 to 10 minutes and the doctor looks young. Must be the natural approach I suppose. The doctor spent roughly 45 minutes with us patiently answering our question. She suggested natural alternatives and diet changes to handle the ADD and respiratory problems. Am I glad we found her. Both our kids go there and they love it. Grace still carries out the lil toy that she got in her visit :)

Hello!! My son (my first born) was 8 weeks early and in the hospital for 6 weeks before coming home. He was underweight and small, too. I had a difficult time breastfeeding him, too. So I pumped instead. We were given bad news when he was 2 weeks old that he had a syndrome: Ring 18 (mental retardation, growth hormone deficiency, developmental delay, feeding problems, etc. etc.). We are now on our 6th pediatrician in 6 years. We are now at a wonderful office in Plano: North Dallas Pediatrics (on W. 15th street off of Coit; ###-###-#### appt # and business # is ###-###-####). They have a new young female pediatrician, Dr. Siebert, who might be someone you are looking for. She was on maternity leave in November but I am sure she is back now. Also, I think craniosacral therapy is wonderful. It did great things for my son. Unfortunately our insurance did not pay for it so we got to the point we could not afford it. During that time, Andrew improved and did really well. I could see a difference. J., I found as a mom of a child with special circumstances, I had to stand my ground. I have told off some of my son's doctors (much to my husband's embarrassment) but hey, I got things done. You need to be firm but yet reasonable and willing to listen to suggestions. I always take a packet of information on Andrew, his syndrome, etc with me to the doctor (especially a new one). When I wanted craniosacral therapy, I took literature and explained why I wanted to do it. I had no problem with the doctor writing a note of approval. You do what you think is best for your child. I did and it has paid off. Good luck!!
