Pains in Hands

Hi Ladies:

For the last several weeks, I have been waking up in the morning with pains in my hands, closer to my wrists. Usually after an hour or so, the pain goes away. Its not excrutiating pain, they just feel sore. I haven't changed anything during my daily routine, so I'm not really sure what this could be from. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned?

What can I do next?

Very possibly carpal tunnel. Many people sleep with their wrists bent, which presses on the nerve and damages it over time. Even if you try hard not to sleep that way, your body may take over after you fall asleep and you may not even know you are doing it. You can try some cheap wrist "cock-up" splints from CVS or Walmart and see if it helps. Wear them when you sleep to keep your wrists from bending. A neurologist can do nerve conduction testing to test for sure if you think that is the proble.

The advice you have already been given was exactly what I would tell you. I would try these simple steps already offered and if it doesn't improve, then you should probably see your physician. I'm sure you will be just fine. I will say a prayer for your wrists. :-)

OK, so I worked in an outpatient therapy clinic for 6 of the past 7 years and worked nearly exclusively on hands and shoulders. PLEASE do not go out and buy any braces or splints of ANY description for yourself... improper fit, use, and wearing of these can actually make your problems worse. If you do want to try self treatment, take advil or aleve as directed on the package for a week. It's likely overuse or something similar... If the symptoms persist for longer, then seek out the assistance of a physician for a referral to an outpatient clinic - preferrably for occuapational therapy, they deal more with hand and wrist problems as compared to physical therapy in general...hope this helps

I have pain in two fingers on & off, and my hands fall asleep nightly. I was told a while back from a nurse to tap my wrists together for about a minute, if they fall asleep most likely it's carpal tunnel. I am having mine evaluated next week by a physician to make sure it's nothing more.

A friend of mine has carpal tunnel, and the chiropractor told her to take 150mg of Vitamin B6 a day. As long as she takes it, she is fine. She also takes vitamin B12. Hope this helps.
