Hi Girls,
I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with twins. I am dealing with the annoying issue of carpal tunnel syndrome. It happened with my last pregnancy also, but I am just looking for ways to make it less painful when I am trying to sleep at night. I have wrist braces and use an ice pack on them before bed. Has anyone else dealt with this problem or does anyone have any other suggestions? It is such a minor thing to complain about, but it really affects my sleep, which I really need right now! Thanks for all your help!

I also had terrible carpal tunnel syndrome for the last third or so of my pregnancy. I tried the braces and everything else. But finally, with about 6 weeks to go in my pregnancy, I went to a hand/wrist specialist recommended by my OB/GYN, who gave me a cortisone shot in each wrist. It sounds terrible, and I'm a big baby when it comes to needles. But the shots were painless and I felt much better thereafter. K. H.

I had the same problem and it is very annoying at times. I couldn't even write sometimes. I wore braces at night, did wrist exercises and took Tylenol. Hope that helps

I had carpal tunnel with my first pregnancy in both arms. I wore the braces pretty much all day (very hard to write while wearing them). At night, I slept with several pillows propping me up as well as propped my arms out at my sides. Sometimes I was more comfortable sleeping in our over sized chair in the family room because the arms of the chair helped to immobilize my arms even more. This did help with the pain for me quite a bit. I am due in June as well, and am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get it again. I don't think that there is any treatment that is safe during pregnancy except what you are already doing. Good luck and I wish you pain-free sleep!

Try Vitamin B-6 and get a chiropractic adjustment. Should do the trick.

I had those with my very first pregnancy, and I hate to say this, but have sufferent from CTS since then (almost 20 years). It may go away or may not. I am surprised that the braces don't help, it did it for me, however, I wanted a cure for them and was about to get the operation when I found out I was pregnant again. You may want to be referred to a physical or rehab therapist to start a therapy program, that was the only thing that helped me afterwards. I never did get the operation, but have kept up my physical therapy exercises and it helps whenever I get a flare up.

I have carpel tunnel and before surgery I wore braces at night. The best thing I did was keep my hands warm (cold made them hurt more) and to sleep on my back with my hands crossed at the wrist. The onlt solution. I will say I had the surgery and am doing great. We never could pin my problems on any one thing.

Hi S.,

I had carpal tunnel throughout my pregnancy, so I know how annoying it can be! I'm not sure what kind of braces you're using, but towards the end I bought one that covered my forearm, basically from my fingers to my elbow. That helped while I was sleeping, although it does get hot. I found that brace at Kroger. Hope that helps! Good luck!

First, a big congratulations to you and your family!! What a blessing! May God bless your little one that is with Him.
During my pregnancy, I experienced cts as well. I found that if I propped both of my arms up on pillows and kept them on something soft, it helped relieve some pain. Don't be afraid to call your obgyn or available nurse for questions about what to do. It's better to be safe. Be sure to give all symptoms you are experiencing and don't down play what you're feeling. Your body has a way of letting you know what is going on. Hopefully the cts is not linked to anything else going on in your body, it is just good to be safe for you and your baby's sake. (I had a bit of a unique experience of cts and overall joint pain, which I later discovered to be linked to hypothyroid.) Hope this helps!!

Hi S., I had pregnancy induced carpal tunnel when I was pregnant as well. My doctor never suggested anything for me and thank goodness it went away a few months after giving birth. My sister has carpal tunnel and is drinking Mona Vie. It has terriffic anti-inflammatory properties that help so much with the pain. I also knew another Mona Vie distributor that got some relief from drinking it. Mona Vie is 19 superfruits from around the world. It's doing some amazing things for people's health. My father is off of his diabetes and cholesterol meds; my husband needed back surgery and has no more pain; my arthritis feels as though I've never had it; some people have no more eczema, sciatica, pre-melanoma, migraines; it's also helped me with depression and gives me incredible energy. I could go on and on and on, but it's one of those things you have to try for yourself to see what it can do for you. I feel like I have a responsibility to tell as many people as I can about it. Mona Vie is the fastest growing privately held company in the world. It took Microsoft 7 years to hit the billion dollar mark...Mona Vie has done it in 3! That's because people are so excited about it. Call me for more info or if you'd like to try it. You can reach me at ###-###-#### or ###-###-#### or ____@____.com Bless you and your precious babes! S.,
I reccommend you see a chiropractor or massage therapist - try to find one that has a focus on womens issues. We get out of line during pregnancy and chiropractic and massage are the best therapies.

I have not advice for you other than to ask your doctor. I had carpal tunnel after delivery for about 3 months. One of the side effects that just really isn't mentioned much. I hope you find some good information and are able to rest before the twins.

TRUST ME....it's MORE than the pregnancy that's causing the carpal tunnel. You need to go to the EGOSCUE website and research about the method. It's a NON MEDICAL, NON INVASIVE, COMMON SENSE method that will give you relief right away. It's NOT a quick fix, but you do notice a difference the first time.

You can ask ?s on the site and a therapist will respond to you. You may want to find out if there are any certified therapists in your area. There are also EGOSCUE books, PAIN FREE being the most user friendly.

I presently have carpal tunnel syndrome, however not with pregnancy. I have had a lot of relief from treatments from my chiropractor and massage therapist. I do not believe that I will have to have surgery. It does take time but I am able to sleep and use my hands to work, etc. I am also getting strength back in my hands. This would be non-invasive for you as you go through your pregnancy and even shortly after. My chiropractor used ultrasound for therapy and a process known as stripping (which is a deep tissue massage, which is somewhat uncomfortable, but brings much relief) and I have also learned some exercises that have been very helpful during the day to keep my hands stretched out. If you need more information, please feel free to contact me @ ____@____.com.

Hi S.! Congrats on the twins!! I had cts with my 3rd baby and now have it with this pregnancy. It has gone away with this pregnancy due to massaging castor oil into my wrists at least at night but if it was a bad day, or I thought about it, I massaged it more often. The castor oil breaks down the inflamation. Also works for cysts. Completely safe during pregnancy. This was recommended by my Naturapathic Doctor. By the way, I'm due in July with our 4th boy, so not far behind you. Good luck!!

I suggest that you ask your doctor if he can get you some bio-freeze. It is available for purchase through authorized doctors and physical therapists only but does not require a prescription. I cannot say enough about how well this product works on any kind of muscle or joint pain and the smell evaporates in less than five minutes so you don't get stuck smelling like Bengay! I have a bum shoulder (rotater cuff) and a bum knee (torn cartilege) and this stuff works wonders whenever I have a flare up!

I'm a violinist and have carpal tunnel syndrome in both of my arms quite bad. I had tried icing and wrist braces but they stopped helping and the pain would wake me up at night, too. I've been doing acupuncture for 2 months now and it's helped a lot! The needles are super fine and don't hurt, really. Acupuncture can help with other issues of pregnancy, too. Another option is injections of steriods/anti-inflammatories at the wrist but that involves big needles and it definitely doesn't feel nice. You'd need to see a hand surgery specialist for that--I don't know if it's ok to do during pregnancy.

I had trouble with my hands/wrists "going to sleep" during the night with several of my pregnancies, but it was not carpal tunnel. What helped me most was a body pillow, because my symptoms were related to sleeping on my side and my posture -- so the cause of my numbness and tingling was from further up in the shoulder area. You might try it...

Hi S.,
Congrats on the twins, sorry about the CTS. I had it before getting pregnant, had the surgery at 15 y.o., then it came back but was managable until my 4th month of pregnancy. Splints at night weren't helping enough. My doc said to wear the splints ALL the time. Even though the pain was mainly at night, he said the injury happens during the daytime. He was right. The splints all day were annoying and everyone who saw me thought I was pregnant and had two broken wrists, but at least I could sleep.
Good luck these last weeks!!

I am suffering from the same thing as well, I do with all my pregnancies....pregnancy induced carpal tunnel
I use a brace at night and somewhat during the day, it is affecting both arms, but mainly my right!!!
The only other thing that I am gonna try is going to the chiropractor, My cousin is mine and she insists that altho it will not get rid of the syndrome all together, it will definitely help....
Plus, I LOVE laying on her table with the hole cut out for my belly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It should go away after birth, just hang in there. My hands fall asleep typing, driving, eating, sleeping you name it.
I usually just hang my hand off the side of the bed when it gets real bad...so not only are we limited on how we sleep, we have to hang limbs over the edge of the bed =)

GOOD LUCK
and COngrats on Twins,
I am prego with my third and final child, another boy =)

Unfortunately I know exactly how you feel. I had circulation problems that started when I was 12 weeks. My carpal tunnel didn't start until a little leter but it is just a pain. I had to go to physical therapy. There they did untrasound on my wrists to help circulation and gave my some putty to do excersices with. I also had to sleep with the braces on. I don't know if you can wear the braces during the day, but my PT said that would help also. I worked in the veterinary field so that wasn't practicle for me. Hang in there, the good news is it will go away after delivery!!! Good luck!!!
