I have been in pain for the last 2 days and finally broke down and went to the hospital this morning. After a CT scan, they found I had a 1 inch cyst on my right ovary. They said that there is nothing they can do for the pain other than pain meds, and those don't seem to be working very well. I'm going to see my ob gyn in the morning, but in the mean time, have any of you had this problem and found a way to relieve the pain? I"m willing to try just about anything at this point.
Thanks to all of you for your help. I have been trying the heating pad and that seems to help as long as it's on there constantly. I did finally talk to my doctor over the phone and he said that as long as the pain is getting better we were just going to play the wait and see game and he scheduled an ultrasound for March 10th. It is getting a little better every day so hopefully soon it will be gone. Thanks again for the help.

I had cysts all through my teen years and it was very painful. The only thing that ever helped me was the pain meds plus a warm heating pad. My cysts went away when I started having kids. Birth control pills also made it worse. if you are nursing your daughter that could be a reason why the meds are not working as well because the dose has to be low enough that you can still nurse. I was on very strong pain meds so I am almost sure that the ones that I took could not be taken while breastfeeding. Hope this helps.

I have had many issues for many years. I found Ibuprofen and a heating pad usually helps. I could never take birth control so I had to just live with the pain. You will go thru times that are better than worse. I ended up having a hysterectomy last month. I already feel the difference. I am not saying you are this bad but it can get that bad. Just find a good doctor and keep a close eye on it.

Hi L.,
I had the same experience as you and I feel for you. I was given pain meds as well, but they only worked for a short while. I spent a lot of time sleeping on a heating pad or with a heating pad on me. It helped reduce the pain tremendously! I hope this helps. Best Wishes!

I know that ovarian cysts can be a hormonal imbalance. Since you had a child recently it is possible it will diminish once your hormones get back to normal. Also, if you could use a hormone cream like progestrone it should help to diminish it in size. Also your diet plays a big role...staying away from caffine is major. Doctors usually want to push pain pills or birth control pills to solve the problem, but there are things you can do naturally to prevent them from growing in size. There is a lot of stuff out there on the internet about natural cures. Hope that helps!!

I have had ovarian cysts before and I know the pain you're in. My first experience was painful for several weeks until it ruptured. By the time I went to the ER my abdomen was full of fluid and I looked about 5 months pregnant. All they gave me was antibiotics. I was told then that they usually aren't treated because they form and rupture taking care of themselves. They have come and gone since a couple of times but not nearly as severe. I usually just do Advil and a heating pad. My doctor said that birth control pills help prevent them. I hope you feel better soon.

I have recently went thru what you are going thru but what they dont always tell you is that all women get cyst every month its just some get bigger then others. You tend to get them more when you get older and have more kids. So its not something that is abnormal. I recently found out that i had cervical cancer so i no long have that problem b/c they had to do a hysterectomy on me. WEWWWWWWWWW am I glad that is over. As far as your cyst thing. Its something that happens and as far as the pain ther isnt much you can do if the pain meds aren't helping. Unless the dr didn't give you a strong enough dose. Good luck

I had ovarian cysts for 4 or 5 years after my daughter was born. The docs are right, there's not much you can do about them, but I would soak in a hot bath, take advil or something similar, have a moderate glass of wine, and increased my water consumption alot - Being more hydrated really seemed to help. BC pills seemed to make it worse. Once I got off the Pill I haven't had any.

I've had it.. unfortunately I wasn't offered pain meds, I was just told to wait until it burst (which they do, and you have it happen about once a month, and just don't always feel it as strongly). The only one that caused me the dire pain your speak of, where it took my breath away, and I couldn't walk... I was pregnant. Not saying you are, I KNEW I was pregnant, about 6 months along.

I had that happen a couple times. For me, though, it wasn't unbearable pain. I did see my gyn the first time, but by the time I actually got in to see him the pain was gone, and a sonogram revealed it had already burst (lots of fluid in the area). The good news is it's not threatening to your health in any way. Most go away on their own.

Hi L. , when I had my 2nd baby I had the same problem my baby was about 5mo. old. and I was doubled over for days in terrible pain, thinking I had severe gas I just kept drinking mylanta. Finally they rushed me to the hospital thinking I had a burst appendix they found out I had a cyst on my ovary that had burst and the reason I was in pain was blood was seeping into my stomach from the cyst.I had to have emergency surgery.I pray that you don't have to go through that and that your doctor will give you some encouraging news ......N. What pain medication did they put you on? I took Lortab...or Norco and they both worked pretty well, but I ended up having surgery to remove the cyst as it had gotten as big as a grapefruit and was messing up the circulation to my ovaries (don't let that scare you though...it got so big only b/c I never went to see my obgyn.)

I have had ovarian cysts many times, but the pain was quick. I just took Motrin. My doctor performed a lazer surgery once and the othe time she used a compound that was mixed up and given to me in a shot that dissolved the cyst or burst it. Good Luck!!!

I am in the same situation. I am in pain quite often and all I get is pain meds and various changes of my b.c. None of these work. I have asked my doctor about disolving or removing and he says that is not an option...they should disolve on their own...yeah right. All I can say is get a good heating pad..

I know what you are going through, and was in your shoes many years ago. I had a cyst rupture (very painful) and was put on birth control at 18yrs. to prevent further ones. I don't know if would be a solution for you, but I currently take a daily multi vitamin and mineral in liquid form. It is top of the line and is a NATURAL pain reliever and anti-inflammatory. I could tell you hundreds of success stories, but will encourage you to visit my website and see if it may be for you. I wish you all of the comfort and health in the world, and would love to help you. The product is VEMMA and my website is www.myvemma.com/andriamraz. I have had quite a few ovarian cysts which are indeen very painful. The first one I had actually ruptured and cause major pain before I even knew what was going on. After the rupture it was almost instant relief so I never went to the dr. Since that time I have had numerous cysts and on several occassions had one on each ovary at the same time....(I looked as if I were 6 months pregnant.) I did see the dr and they did the ultrasound to make sure what the problem was. I was given pain meds. I do know that sometimes the dr had drain the cyst if needed. Most are nothing to worry about other than the pain which is bad enough. Just be careful and see the dr as my boss has also had an ovarian cyst and it leaked and caused severe infection throughout her internal organs. She had to have a hysterectomy and they had to wash her organs to remove the infection. My advice would be to definately see a gyn and let them keep a close eye on the problem. The gyn should be able to explain if it is fluid or jelly filled which make a difference on what action needs to be taken. If you notice any fever or nausea you should call your dr immediately.
Hope this helps and unlike myself you only experience this once. Once is definately enough.

I have had a cyst on my ovaries three different times and the hurt but the only thing that even lightened the pain was to lay in bed in a ball. I know that is not a whole lot to go on but there is not much that will ease your pain.

Hi L.,
I had an ovarian cyst on my right ovary when I was 23. They went in surgically to remove the cyst and ended up removing the whole ovary because the cyst was too large. Make sure you ask about about being able to have children, have them check both ovaries. As long as you have 10% of at least one ovary you will still be able to have children.
As for the pain, other than prescribed pain killers, there isnt much. Good Luck!

They can do a needle biopsy to drain the cyst and birth control pills do wonders to prevent them.

Several years ago I had an ovarian cyst that "exploded", and spent two days in the hospital. The only thing they did for me was give me pain medication and fluids. After I left I was still in pain for several days, but they did not give me any med's to take home. I don't know if some doctors do things differently, but it may just be one of those "grim and bear it" things. Sorry! This too shall pass.

I have a 28 yr old daughter who is going through the exact same thing. Two months ago she got a laporksy(?)and her dr removed part of her tube that had swollen. She had several cysts over the lst 3 months; another one burst this morning. CT scan revealed nothing. So whatever you hear back, please pass this info to me. She is supposed to be meeting her dr tomorrow and get some other medicine to take away the pain.
Thanks, C. G
